Our hearts goes to Kogi West flood victims... Omoluabi

Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi (OBA) has commiserated with the entire people of Kogi West Senatorial district particularly Lokoja-Koto people over their great loss of properties and valuables during the unfortunate flood occurrence a few days ago.

Omoluabi in release made available to press earlier today describes the incidence as unfortunate, devastating and frustrating particularly during a harsh economic condition like we currently experience. He prayed to God Almighty to restore their losses. In his words "Our hearts goes to our brothers and sisters across Kogi west senatorial district most especially Lokoja-Koto people who were displaced or lost valuables to the flood occurrence a few days ago, as I pray for God to restore your losses, I like to caution, admonish and encourage everyone living around flood prone areas to consider the alternative of relocating temporarily to forestall devastating effects of possible flooding that may occur in the days ahead as announced by government. By the grace of God in the coming days ahead we shall be around in solidarity with the affected people with our little support".

He further stated that flood is an occurrence that is most times caused by natural factors but its effects are usually made devastating by human factors such as building on waterways, blockade of waterways and other human factors that inhibits or blocks the channels of water passage, he therefore on this note urge the people to be more conscious of this fact and make necessary corrections. He also called on the National Emergency Management Agency and other people of goodwill to quickly come to the aid of the affected people with relief materials. Omoluabi also promised that when elected, he will make necessary collaborations and synergy that will guarantee permanent solution to what is fast becoming a recurrent setback to the people. He said that responsive, responsible and ideas driven representation he hope to bring on board will permanently tackle most of the issues affecting our people especially the poor, helpless and defenceless people of Kogi west.

He charged the victims not to lose hope because of this temporary setback, adding that we will surely overcome this together. We feel your pains, suffering, losses and anguish, we are however consoled that no life was lost to the unfortunate incidence, he said.

Faleke added his voice to the growing call on the federal government to properly dredge River Niger in order to save lives and property.

OKEBUKUN HIGH SCHOOL AND INFTRASTURAL CHALLENGES

Basic infrastructures are no doubt a fundamental in assuring quality education and overall educational development.  Such infrastructures are the basic facilities and capital equipment needed for its proper functioning. The importance of basic infrastructure to education cannot be overemphasized. These infrastructures can come in the physical structures such as buildings – good classrooms, well equipped laboratory, adequately shelved library, conducive staff room, sport facilities, good landscape, conducive hostels among others.

On the top of this structure comes good management team. A soothsayer is not needed to predict what the effects of having the above listed items will have on the quality of education in such a school. The ripple effects of its inadequacy could spell mean doom.
Without going into much history, it could be said that Okebukun High School has always had its share of infrastructural challenges over the years, which is not a peculiar problem but a common denominator among other rural community schools. It is no history that the school is a product of community efforts that bore its birth in 1983.

It was a rural community effort that could not be compared to what a government funded project would have produced. Even as little as it could have appeared then with just few classrooms, it was a great feat achieved by the community trail blazers who had great dreams. Then and there, a seed was planted. A seed that was to grow and birth more.
No doubt, Okebukun High School has enjoyed directly and indirectly both individuals and government supports apart from the community efforts which had seen the school grown to the extent that it could accommodate a large number of student from Junior Secondary School 1 to Senior Secondary School 3 over the years. Despite the available number of classrooms, it did not rank as the best of a conducive environment for learning – some classrooms are without doors, windows, ceilings, nor floors; inadequate books in the library etc, were major features.

However, against these odds and more OHS had thrived within limited resources to produce outstanding men and women who are doing well in their chosen endeavors in the society – 9 classrooms and a hall, a 20 square meter library starved of relevant books. It grew in success that it commanded the attendance of students both from surrounding communities with or without secondary schools, including Kabba and  beyond Lokoja.

All that has become history.
It must be stated that the present helpless state of the infrastructures in the school, just as earlier stated did not start today and should therefore be largely blamed on the seeming negligence by the community and the school management. This is because as commendable as it was the effort of the community for the establishment of the school, there was no continuing effort to see to the completion of all the classrooms to the most conducive atmosphere. The only floored and plastered structures in the school with windows had been only four classrooms and the principal’s office for a long time. The school was no longer taken seriously as a community project with diligent attention to infrastructural development. Also, the school management at various dispensations has not done enough to make the classrooms more befitting and comfortable for learning.

Most of the interventions that have taken place had been a misplaced priority no matter how laudable. Hence, the dilapidation we have today as OHS. Okebukun High School has simply become a shadow of itself – a contrast to our founding fathers’ dreams.

The wayforward
Considering what is on ground now, it is a project that will have to start from the scratch. There is a need for overhauling the structures by way of a total renovation. Therefore, the following are urgently needed to be carried out:
Renovation of all the classrooms – roofs, windows, doors and floors – to a befitting and conducive standard.
Construction of a larger and new library and adequately shelved with relevant books.
Re-introduction of science courses and conversion of a classroom to a laboratory that is well equipped.
Provision of comfortable learning desks.
Putting in place a good management team and experienced teachers among others.

These and more will bring about the turnaround that is desperately needed. Therefore, it requires our collective efforts to achieve these goals and the former and new glory restored.

It is possible!

Re: Sale of Okun Patriots

Our attention has been drawn to the mischievous post of one Mr. Olamide Femi who not only alleged the sale of this platform on his facebook wall but went further to send same to the inbox of lots of people. Ordinarily, the post would not have been dignified with any response but when people started making enquiries on it, the reasonable thing to do is react to allay the fears of Patriots to our unwavering commitment to the ideals for which this noble platform was created.

The perpetrators of this mischief are known and at the appropriate time, they shall be exposed for all to see.

This unfounded allegation has been noted and appropriate action will be taken to serve as deterrent to anyone contemplating similar defamatory action in the future.

For the avoidance of doubt, the ‘Okun first’ agenda remain the fulcrum on which the quest for a better Okunland we aspire stands and no amount of mudslinging will derail us in the task.

The frustration of the perpetrators of this nefarious attempt to drag hard-earned reputation in the mud is understandable because this platform has become what they hoped for in the platforms they have created which has been a mirage hence the futile attempt to discredit the administrators of this platform.

This platform predates the coming into office of the present political gladiators in Kogi State and particularly in Okunland. We have and will continue to resist any attempt by anyone or group of persons to subsume collective interest in personal selfish interests.

There is no cause for worry as we remain resolute in the march towards the development of Okunland and will not be distracted by mischievous insinuations. The objective moderating and guiding task of the administrators of this platform remain and will not be derailed.

Sincere gratitude to Patriots who saw and drew our attention to the malicious post and others who never doubted our integrity and said as much. The confidence reposed in us is appreciated and will never be betrayed

Sleep with estranged Olori of Oni and die prematurely-Ifa Priest.

The recent crash of Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi and his former wife, Olori Wuraola's 17-month old marriage continues to generate mixed reviews home and abroad.

The latest to comment on it is popular Ifa Traditionalist, Playwright, Actor and Author, Yemi Elebuibon who spoke to SUNsaying ex-Olori Wuraola, must necessarily undergo appropriate traditional cleansing process to enable her to regain normal life.

While noting that Ooni would not be the first Yoruba Oba to be seperated from his wife, Elebuibon stressed that marriage breakup is not very common among Yoruba Obas, 'the wife of the Oba will be asked to consult Ifa and Ifa will give directions on how she will make the necessary atonement for her cleansing. In Yoruba tradition, a woman who has been married to a king cannot lay with any other man even if the marriage breaks up. But when the right atonements have been made, there won’t be problem'.

On the kind of problems which an Oba’s ex-wife might encounter if she refuses to undergo the traditional cleansing rites, Elebuibon said: 'for the woman, she might not really have a problem but for any man who sleeps with a queen or marries an ex-queen without the appropriate cleansing, the man may die prematurely, he may be struck with sickness or there might be retrogression in his life'.

He explained that if an ex-queen wants to remarry, she will have to do the cleansing with her new husband. Both of them have to take part in the atonement procedures so that they won’t have any future problem.  “Any marriage she would be going into must not be elaborate. They should go far away and avoid any flamboyant wedding,” Elebuibon warned.
