My appreciation goes to the  Elcom Chairman
Comrade ENIOLA OLAYEMI,

Ibukun Abraham (Secretary Committee)

Less I forgot, I want to express my appreciation to all delegates across Okun land who deem it fit to give me their mandate so as to represent them as the *13th National Association of Okun Students  Senate President.*
I have my assurance in God that the mandate given will not be a waste  but an effective one. Thanks for the believe you all have in me.
Very importantly, It is key and paramount to note that every position given to man on earth is from God
However, before now, it has been a chant of one candidate or the other, before the convention, but the situation is not the same today as we have candidates that has emerged to function in one capacity or the other. So I want to implore  us to stop seeing candidates but to start seeing NAOS as a union that need all of us to function.

I believe so much in the saying that;  "If you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go together". This is not an avenue to display a lonely  capacity, it is only a platform to show the power of team work. I strongly believe in what we can achieve together. The power of togetherness is also a power for team achievement.
I will give special attention to issues of NAOS because the less attention given to the union over time has been a challenge for her smooth operations.

As a lady with passion for student development, I will convince people's impressions that lady's with believable intents can do more better. So, I will ensure oneness in the union and I will give my very best to see that my manifesto is not just mere spoken, but acompany with countless discharge of responsibility for the mandate given.
I will work  collectively with other executives to see that there is a positive paradism shift in NAOS in other to facilitate credibility, Effectiveness, Accountable, Accessibility, Equity and Justice agenda that will redeeme the lost glory of the union and will as well inprint a good image in the heart  of our benefactors and the general public.
Your support was not just requested for my emergence, but the request is to emerge and to ensure  a performance.

My ears are  always open for corrections, suggestions and advise to see that NAOS of our time is  better off.
I will treat NAOS first and every other things can follow. This is my believe that if NAOS is better, every other discourse will always be in line for the betterment of the union.

*Conclusively,* it is rare previledge of being there and the involvement does not directly connote perfection or flawless, but it is a sign of God's will which is always above the will of men.
I will implore other comrades with like minds to help the moving  trains gets to its  final destination.
The reshape is possible, it only require Comr. Queen Margaret Olubunmi Olupehin's  effort with support from all.
Thanks for the believe and God bless you all

KOGI CENTRAL, THE EIGHT ASSEMBLY AND THE SCORE-CARD OF DISTINGUISHED SENATOR AHMED SALAU OGEMBE

By Issa Itopa Lucky

Senator Ahmed Salau Ogembe, a seasoned politician of Kogi Central descent is no doubt a working Senator, a distinguished one at that. Elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in the year 2016, to represent the good people of Kogi Central Constituency in the eight (8th) Senate of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Ogembe being a leader with experience and passion, without wasting any time, immediately after his swearing-in swung into action in a bid to bring the very best of dividends of democracy to his people and the nation, Nigeria at large.
Over the past one year and some months, the former Okene Local Government Chairman has proved himself worthy of praise via his numerous achievements especially in the areas of grassroot, state and national discourse. To boot, his laudable constituency projects are there for all to see, in fact, they are ‘audible to the deaf and visible to the blind’. At the level of legislature, he has not failed for a second to identify with the pains, needs and demands of his constituency. This he has exhibited more often than none, through sponsoring of motions and bills which are aimed at the making life better for evenstill, the average Kogi Central constituent, to mention but a few, which is his primary objective and singular mandate, being a committed and true-to-talk leader.
In terms of intervention and constituency projects, the focused distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic has added his lot to power-supply by providing transformers. To contribute to physical health education; he has provided sporting equipments for a handful of primary and secondary schools.
In addition to the impressive score-card of the grassroot-concerned and distinguished lawmaker, it is on record as to how he has engaged in youths and women empowerment projects via provision of items like tricycles, motorcycles, grinding machines, generating sets and sewing machines among others. As he lends his hands of support to artisans and ‘small and medium-scale entrepreneurs’ in Kogi Central constituency, which has been among one of his major philantrophic practices over the years, he has time-and-time again, provided small and medium-scale training together with seed capital to willing participants, among other social intervention projects.
Dissecting his interests as a lawmaker, Senator Ogembe has proven to be interested in key aspects of the nation not limited to areas like marine transport, appropriation, water resources and ethics and privileges.
On the floor of the house, he has always engaged in and thrown his weight around legislations that will engender responsible governance in Nigeria, as well, he is ceaselessly sponsoring and offering full support to bills that are geared towards protection of fundamental human rights of Nigerians both home and in diaspora.
In terms of his legislative efforts, the following find very true expression in the records of the second-time Senator;
- Rigorous empowerment programmes engineered towards self-reliance
- Liaising with relevant government agencies in a bid to curb insecurity in Kogi Central Senatorial Constituency
- Advocacy for the speedy completion of Ajaokuta Steel Company and National Iron Ore Mining Company, Itakpe
- Always on his toes to ensure that Kogi Central is never short-changed in any way, in terms of intervention projects, Federal recruitment and Federal Government social intervention programmes, hence reducing unemployment and poverty and as well contributing his much-needed quota towards the betterment of the welfare of his constituents, the good people of Kogi Central Constituency
- Round-the-clock supervision of Federal Government projects on-going in Kogi Central Senatorial District to ensure full, best-standard and quick implementation.
- Operates one of the busiest constituents-oriented offices in the eight (8th) Senate.
- Operates a working constituency office in Okene, such that he is always in touch with regarding the welfare, challenges and needs of Kogi Central Senatorial Constituency from time to time.
In terms of bills sponsored by the working Senator so far in the eight assembly, he has sponsored the bill on compulsory third-party insurance across Nigeria. Being a leader with fond memories of those before him, he sponsored a motion on the immortalisation of late Senator Ohize, a renowned leader and former Senator of Kogi Central Constituency.
Among other bills and motions sponsored and supported by the Senator in terms of health, there is the bill on “pre-marital genotype” and on mandatory Haemoglobin test which by implication is aimed at cutting down on sickle cell disease.
In terms of education, Senator Ahmed Salau Ogembe having observed to a convincing extent, the current provisions and standard of the Federal College of Education in Okene, he has since sponsored on the floor of the Senate to upgrade the status of the higher institution from College of Education to that of a University standard.
Time and time again, Okene local government that is usually crisis-prone has since known boundless peace. This is due to constant and frequent intervention of the Senator on issues bothering the people. This he has achieved by ceaselessly lending his voice, opinion and active support towards the welfare, peace and security of the local government whose former chairman he is. He has not failed to show how much of a baby close to the heart of a father, the local government is to him, among other places making up his constituency.
A Senator who can achieve all the aforementioned and more within a short-while in office, surely has so much ‘goodies’ in store to offer to his people and the nation, if given further mandate to continue in office in the course of the next general elections. Indeed, anybody endorsing the Senator for yet another tenure in the Senate is well guided by facts and no doubt, means well for the good people of Kogi Central Senatorial Constituency. Of a truth, thus far Senator Ahmed Salau Ogembe is working and his people can only but provide him with more leadership-service opportunities and enabling environment to the servant-leader via their support as fellow constituents and electorates.

****Issa Itopa Lucky is an indigene of Okene Local Government. He represented his constituency (Banking and Finance department) in the University of Abuja Students Union Parliament for the 2015/2016 academic session.

As Nigeria staggered into 2018: A food for thought

By Abdullateef Ishowo

Black is the colour of the devil, charcoals and several other unpalatable objects. Africans are black and that probably explains why the whites made the colour of tyres to be black. After all, in the whites’ accounts, African nations were in dark era when the Europeans came to colonize them.

At the moment, the cloud is dark in Nigeria as the nation’s economy wears a dark toga and sings a dark song. The proverbial hen won’t be so unfortunate and lay black eggs, they have to be white is no longer relevant; as black eggs have started to be deposited by the hen. The situation is not the same in Nigeria where the nation’s economy lays dark eggs. It is so bad that Nigerians have begun to ask if oil is actually a blessing to the nation or a curse after all.
Is Muhammadu Buhari the problem? The answer is of course an affirmative no; we’ve on different occasions said Obasanjo, Yar’adua and Jonathan were.

The situation is as complex as simultaneous equation in the field of mathematics. But on who is the responsibility of fixing Nigeria lies, the leaders or the led? Of course the led has always fulfilled his own part by performing his civic responsibility of coming out during elections to cast his votes for those he believes would represent his affairs and interests well.

The other part (governance) lies with the leader; needless emphasizing the obvious that long ago, commonsense has taken flight in the governance environment of the country; as we’ve always experienced excuses for failures of governance and blames are being apportioned by a reigning government to the previous ones. It is called blame game. It happens in individuals lives too, where you decide to blame others for your failures.

The deprived ones in the society, I mean those who are under the weight of poverty, those who know what it is to be hungry are sometimes prone to blame their fortunes in life on ill-luck. Many cannot reason beyond blaming someone else for their failures. Many go as far as blaming their creator. But those who don’t resign themselves to such thinking begin to look for a way out of their challenges.

No matter the amount of popularity President Buhari may enjoy among Nigerians, the reality shows a man who isn’t personally corrupt when we view it from financial perspective but lacks required ideas and intelligence to transform the country and surrounds himself with corrupt individuals who are ready to do the biddings for him in the political front using same Nigeria money we claim he’s not looting. It sounds paradoxical! He therefore looks same in the mirror with other Nigerian leaders who develop excuses for their failures.

Believe it if you like, our dear incorruptible president has joined those he can’t beat and turned his back on those that can be beaten. Who doesn’t enjoy the taste of honey or sugar or where appropriate, the taste of salt? Only the styles or techniques applied are different but every ambitious man is ready to engage himself in a rat race that will lead him to power and eventually achieve everlasting happiness for himself.

The irony of it is that, power doesn’t usually bring happiness. Everything attached to power game is devilish. Nelson Mandela of the blessed memory seemed to understand power better than all of us (the whites inclusive) and that was why he punished his soul by quitting the stage while the ovation was at its loudest momentum. I doubt Buhari will be able to do same; he is not extraordinary. Mandela was. Even if Buhari wants to do so, he would be compelled by his loyalists who benefit a lot from his weaknesses to continue. He isn’t as principled as we think. Babatunde Idiagbon was.

As a matter of fact, nothing brings happiness to man like contentment. But how many men are contented with what they hold? Not even myself. Every man wants to acquire more and more till death strikes him like an avenging ghost. If Buhari was contented, he wouldn’t have come back. Contentment is quite a difficult attribute to possess. Taking a cursory look at conditions of men on earth will reveal how lack of contentment leads men to experience the other side of life—how the mighty do fall, how those that are deprived of sight, limbs, etc think other men are happy and contented because they have organs of their body intact. Forgetting that many are going through life in impaired health, some suffer the sorrow of ungrateful offspring, some watch the toils of their youth get wasted and in their old age blame nature or government, become unhappy and ungrateful to everyone including their creator.

The ones we see as being successful in life are not contented or happy either. Many of the so-called successful people spend the last part of their life or career in endless seasons of litigations, in courts, in police/EFCC cases and security investigations warranted in most cases by lack of contentment. If we but spare a thought on the vicissitudes of men which must teach us that we are subject to the law of sowing and reaping—a just law that ensures that the returning fruits do not miss their originators.
No Nigerian leader, past or present, is free of litigation. They’ve all committed one criminal act or the other in the past; from financial scandal to certificate forgery, falsification of age, to many others. For instance, perusing our dear president’s profile reveals a brilliant child who sat for his SSCE at the age of 11 in 1953 and was commissioned to the Nigerian Army in 1957 at the age of 15! The SSCE certificate is still a subject of controversy till date. But unfortunately, the fortunate ones judge the less fortunate in any given society. Such was the fate of Socrates in the Greek City.
Abraham Lincoln, J.F Kennedy, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Tafawa Balewa, Gen. Ironsi and Gen. Muritala Muhammed were assassinated not because they were bad leaders but some people felt they should be excused from the surface of the earth. Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, Gen. Tunde Idiagbon, Dr. Olusola Saraki, Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief MKO Abiola, Chief Bola Tinubu, Dr. Bukola Saraki and a host of many others had one time or the other faced one form of litigation or the other not because they are bad some people wanted them out of political arena to settle personal scores.

As we staggered into 2018 as a people in a nation, there is the need to have new resolutions on how we can be sincere with ourselves if we must move the nation forward. As we approach 2019, an election year in Nigeria, there is the need to desist from the thought of regime change; system change is all we required. Happy prosperous 2018 to us all as we continue our endless queue in fuel stations.

FALEKE LAMBASTS GOV BELLO FOR DONATING CARS, CASH TO MASQUERADES IN OKENE

Deputy Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Kogi State and former Campaign Coordinator to President Muhammadu Buhari in  Lagos State, Hon James Faleke has described as the height of absurdity the donation of 6 Toyota Venza Cars and cash gifts of 2 Million Naira each by the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello  to masquerades in his hometown of Okene during the last Ekwechi(Masquerade) festival in December 2017.
Hon Faleke said it was indeed absurd that the same Governor who has not been able to pay workers salaries for several months and promised to clear all outstanding salaries and pensions last December without fulfilling it could go ahead to spend money buying car gifts for masquerades.
"I honestly don't know what is happening in our State. We thought the governor( Alhaji Yahaya Bello) would heed popular call to settle all outstanding salaries and pensions in the State last December as he promised after receiving the Paris refunds of close to 12 Billion Naira only for him to pay 40 percent of 2 months. So where did the rest of the money go? Next we heard was the news of the 6 Venza cars he bought and presented to masquerades in Okene through their Minders along with 2 Million Naira cash to each of the masquerades! How else can one be so insensitive to the welfare, yearnings and aspirations of his people".
According to Faleke, the State Government that had denied all along it had no outstandings just released a fresh list of "cleared staff".
"What this means is that those staff whose names were just released had been without pay for the past two years when the screening exercise began. So who is fooling who?".
The lawmaker bemoaned the situation where instead of providing succour for the citizenry across the State, what obtains is intimidation and harassment of hapless and harmless citizens all over the places.
" A case in point is the recent case in Iyamoye community where a group of youth were distributing End of Year gifts to APC to APC Members and were attacked by Soldiers providing security for Governor Bello,s appointed Local Government Administrator for Ijumu Local Government, Taofeek Isah! As an Administrator, the State Government provided him soldiers with which he harrasses perceived political opponents across the State. Of course, the newstands were agog few days ago with the news of how "unidentified" thugs  hijacked the first batch of rice consignments donated by some  Senators to alleviate hunger ravaging the workers' homes. That is the reality of our dear State at the moment."
Hon Faleke called on Governor Bello to "turn a new leaf this year by re-ordering his government,s priorities away from childish, wasteful, unproductive extravaganza to meaningful statecraft aimed at ameliorating the current unacceptable level of pains being inflicted on the people of the State".

STOP INTERFERING IN NAOS POLITICS, NAOSITES TELL PRINCE KOLAWOLE, TAOFIQ ISA AND OTHERS.

By Samuel Oj Temibi

The Leaders of National Association Of Okun
Students has warned the recalcitrant agents of
Kogi State government to stay clear from its
affairs.

It would be recalled that on the 31st of
December 2017, the union unanimously elect its
executive for the 2018 administration but it was
surprising when some elements perceived to be
from the State Government came up on social
media to announce a fake list of NAOS
executive that has been rejected by the people of the zone.

It was revealed that the secret election was
conducted at GOLDEN GROUND ROYAL HOTEL Kabba, the
hotel which belongs to the speaker of Kogi State
House Of Assembly Rt Prince Kolawole Matthew.

It was also leaked that the elements who
conducted the unconstitutional election was
given the sum of 500,000 by the Kogi State
speaker to perfect the unconstitutional election.

According to this report, Prince KOLAWOLE
Matthew, Hon Taofiq Isa, Hon MD Eseyin and
other unknown agents of Kogi State government
are the influencers of this unpleasant work to
cause confusion in the union.

In a swift reaction to this, the stakeholders of
the Association totally condemn the overzealous
attitude of those elements sponsored by the
state government to perpetrate the bid, speaking
on the desperate move of these mischief
makers, Alamoh Kehinde Samuel, a stakeholder
from Ijumu Local Government said, it is outrightly
wrong for these recognised elements to conduct
a factitious election after the legitimately
nominated Elcom Chairman has declared the
elected executive of the union.

Also speaking on the issue, Comrade Cephas
Alepa said that NAOS is not a political platform
for government projection and as such,
government should not interfere or dictate who
is to steer the vehicle of the union.

The stakeholders therefore, maintained that the
union has been existing before the present
government of Kogi State without any
disturbance from the past governments and as
such, it would amount to breaking of the rights
of the organization if the present government
continue to show much interest in its affairs.

The below persons were dully elected as the
NAOS executive.

1. Opeyemi Ojagun Samuel(Okun boy)- National
President.

2. Olupehin Olubunmi Margareth- Senate
President

3. Aiyenigba Mercy- Secretary General

4. Olasunkanmi Owoniyi J- Vice President

5. Aiyegbonka Alaba- Financial Secretary

6. Olusanmi Olayinka- Editor in Chief

7. Adeigba Mosope- PRO

8. Joseph Segun- Director of Sport

9. Saliu Tope- Director of Walfare

8. Olusanmi Shola Samuel- Director of Aluta/
Mobilization

9. Anjorin Samuel- Director of Social

All the NAOS stakeholders from the five local governments in Okun LAND were reportedly present on that day.

Okun Students Convention: Presidential aspirant whose name appear in Kogi Speaker fake list dissociate self from the kangaroo list

Few days after Okun students of the Kogi West Senatorial district conducted her National Convention to elect her leaders, the attempt by Kogi Speaker to influence the election for his younger brother receives another blow.

A student and presidential aspirant in the just concluded Okun Student Election and whose name appear on the fake list of elected  student leaders released by the Kogi Speaker has dissociate self from being part of the illegal enlisting of his name into a fake arrangement to bring disunity to Okunland.

The fake list which enlisted the aspirant as National vice president was written in the Speaker's Hotel in Kabba while proper election was going on in another community, Aiyegunle Gbede in Ijumu area of the state.

Comrade Kayode Opeyemi Julius released the statement of disclaimer and when contacted he promised to take the Speaker to court.

He said "I Comrade Kayode Opeyemi Julius,  a former presidential aspirant of this great union,  National Association Of Okun Students (NAOS) wish to distance myself from a certain unity list sponsored by some political actors in Kogi state wherein my name was mentioned as the Vice president - elect.

I wish to state categorically that I was never part of any meeting or kangaroo election that was conducted by Elcom secretary Com Prime Abubakar. I also wish to state that  I sacrificed my ambition for the unity and growth of our own heritage as okun students NAOS.

Com. Opeyemi Ajagun and Margret Olupehin were returned elected as President and Senate president respectively at the just concluded election which was well attended by students, delegates and  stakeholders of our great association.

Any other list apart from the one Announced by the electoral committee chairman comrade Eniola (Calculus)  is fake,  null and void and does not in anyway reflect what transpired at the convention.

The general public is by this notice advised not to deal with imposters trying to use my name and hard earned reputation to garner a resemblance of acceptance for their already battered reputation"

Fake list by Mr. Speaker.

Recalled that Mr. Speaker gave a large sum of taxpayers money to some people to put together a fake list in his Hotel in Kabba as against those who emerged at the convention.

To my fellow electoral committee members who worked so hard in ensuring Naosites experience a successful and peaceful convention despite the fact that the Dissolved Naos National President Habbeeb Ibrahim on the Congress ground where Elcom was setup and the Elcom Secretary  Abubakar Prime felt the best Naos can achieve and get from them is treating the Elcom Chairman to join them in an hotel at Kabba to conduct the Convention but all glory to God almighty and all my fellow Elcom members except the Elcom secretary Abubakar Prime that refuse to show up with reasons not known by other members.

Let me also state clearly that all Naosites should disregard any Executive list written on a sheet of Jotter that is carrying the name of one unknown Abraham Damilare as President and Moses Juwon Oloruntoba as Senate President , there list is from the desk of evil forces who has vowed to hijack Naos from the Students and turn it to a governmental organisation.

Wishing all Naosites a prosperous New Year and to the new excos I want to urge them to please and please take Naos National to the desired positive land.

Signed.

Chairman Electoral Committee for Naos National Convention 2017/2018

Kogi Speaker bribery allegation, the truth.

My attention has been drawn to a malicious statement released by the media aides to Kogi State Speaker in respect to the just concluded Okun Students National Convention where he falsely allege that I collected the some of N150,000 to conduct election for Okun students and another N350,000 to conduct Miss Okun Beauty peagent.

This allegation is not only false, baseless but it also displayed the level of Mr. Speaker ignorance.

I previously decided not to respond to the unfounded allegation but I can no longer continue to allow the media aides of Mr. Speaker deceive the public to cover up the legislative excesses of Mr. Speaker and his direct involvement in the whole saga.

The public should note that I was never the Electoral Chairman or member of the electoral committee saddled with the responsibility of conducting the students election to have received N150,000 to conduct election for the students and neither was I part of the organizers of Miss Okun Beauty peagent or a member of panel of judges for the beauty contest to have received N350,000 he alleged.

FIRST TRANCHE OF MR. SPEAKER'S #500,000 BRIBE.
The narrative:

To set the records straight, the speaker called me a day to the election and pleaded I see him in his Hotel, which I respectfully did.

On getting to his Hotel he approached and promised to release a sum of N500,000 to me to support his younger brother for the position of Senate President for the students association, I refused and demand that all students and delegates must be carried along and equally advised his younger brother to go back to work.

After several attempt to convince me without success, he said I should see him the next day before the election.

Before leaving the hotel that day, in the presence of about twenty students I pleaded with him to support the outgoing President and Electoral Committee for the conduct of their programs which he immediately released 350,000 and 150,000 to them respectively in the presence of everyone. To Mr. Speaker, my plea for him to give his support was an opportunity for him to bribe his way into the beneficiary heart in favour of his brother as against the general interest of the students. Prime Abubakar who is a member of the electoral Committee collected the N150,000 directly from Mr. Speaker on behalf of the committee while the outgoing President collected directly from the Speaker the other #350,000.

This is the #500,000 the media aides said I collected. Just to deceive the public and cover up for the Speaker.

I don't believe I have done wrong for helping a body(NAOS) I helped build raise fund for their programs.

SECOND TRANCHE OF MR. SPEAKER'S #500,000 BRIBE.
The narrative:

The Speaker was bittered and disappointed I refused to support his candidate who is not popular among the students both in Kabba and Okunland.

Kabba/Bunu students and delegates presented a consensus candidate for the position of Okun Students Senate President but Mr. Speaker decided to use money to work against the People's wish and I said NO and hell was let loose.

The position was zoned to Kabba /Bunu and the people rejected the Speaker's candidate, I supported the popular candidate and Mr. Speaker promised to deal with me.

On the election day in Aiyegunle Gbede, he called me through his most unqualified candidate to come over to Kabba for the release of the N500,000 he previously wanted to force on me to support his younger brother, instead of discussing the money I told his candidate(Speaker's brother) to come down to Aiyegunle Gbede for the convention so he could contest the election, I told him its more honorable for him to contest the election but he never showed up.

The Speaker later released the N500,000 to some group of people to arrange a fake list of excos after the election has been conducted by the Electoral Committee. The fake list was written on the Speaker company letter head paper inside his Hotel.

These set of people shared the money #100,000 each, Prime Abubakar who was expected to be in Aiyegunle Gbede with others Electoral committee members was in Speaker's hotel in Kabba, he collected another #100,000 from the second tranche of the bribe to sign the fake list, so others who collected the money signed the fake list.

It's so sad that those elected to represent the people are the one misrepresenting the people.

I challenge Mr. Speaker to make public proof or evidence that I collected #500,000 from him in his Hotel or anywhere else. I have also consider taking the matter to court to press charges against Mr. Speaker in order to get clear myself and name from lies from the pit of hell.

The manner and ways the Speaker and the Senior Adviser on Students matter, MD Eseyin, subjected the name of the Governor into disrepute and disgrace among the students community shows their level of incompetency.

Reason Mr. Speaker insisted on imposing his younger brother on Okun Students at all cost will soon be unravel with names of those involved.

Signed
Alamoh Kehinde Samuel
