Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu: ADC Can't Be Bought, We remain steadfast in our resolve to birth a new dawn for ADC

It has come to our notice that efforts are being made by those who failed to clinch the other party's ticket (PDP/APC) to hijack the ADC structure in Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu as a platform to serve their selfish gain.

We wish to reteirate that such effort is not only self-centered but also retrogressive, evil and will not see the light of the day.

In addition, such rumoured attempt to scuttle the candidacy of Dr Tokunbo Alaga Olorundami of the ADC, who has assiduously and financially worked hard to put in place the structure of the party in Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu will be counter productive and destructive for the party.

Hon. Tokunbo Alaga Olorundami saw ahead of the game, labored so hard to build  the party ADC from scratch.

To say that someone will bring money to outplay such person who has made enormous sacrifice is only a recipe for the party’s elimination which has always been the game plan of the incoming intruders, we will not allow them.

Its appalling that some new entrants who will unfailingly return to their party are planing to push aside someone who has laboured to resurrect the party in the constituency and put it's structure in place.

However, our trust is in God Almighty and the uncommon integrity of ADC leaders under the able leadership of Elder Leke Abejide who has over the years work so hard to build an alternative narrative for Okun politics.

I believe in the leadership of Elder Leke Abejide and other stakeholders of the party, their integrity is their currency, they can not be bought over by those whose objective is only to use the party to achieve their selfish agenda and then abandon the party.

It's a big NO to them

I have revived millions of calls about danger to our mandate, my assurance is that nobody can buy the leadership of ADC. I want to assure all my supporters that our mandate is safe, secured and intact in ADC.

Pls be fully assured that we came to ADC to merge forces with Elder Leke Abejide and we all know him as a leader that cannot be bought.

The only ticket to win this Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu House of Reps is Dr. Tokunbo Olorundami on the ballot, any other candidate will amount to self destruction for ADC.

2023: YOUR REACH IS UNCOMMON, GOV AKEREDOLU TELLS TINUBU

•Insists Southwest Must Produce Next President

•I Will Unite Nigeria - Tinubu

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, on Thursday received the former Lagos State Governor and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who visited the state as part of his engagement with delegates ahead of the party presidential primary election.

Governor Akeredolu received the presidential hopeful at the Akure Airport amidst pomp and pageantry.

Supporters of Asiwaju Tinubu also thronged the airport to welcome him into the state.

Welcoming Asiwaju Tinubu, Governor Akeredolu described the funfair that greeted the former Lagos state governor’s visit as a statement on his investment and hard work over the years.

The Governor said the reach of the APC national leader is not easy to come by, describing it as uncommon.

Governor Akeredolu spoke at the Cocoa Conference Hall of the Governor’s Office, Alagbaka, Akure.

He said: ”Your visit is different. We must be able to accept the fact that Asiwaju has done a lot. No doubt, we have noticed that Asiwaju has crisscrossed the length and breath of this country.

“And let us all be frank to ourselves. His reach is not something you can get easily, his reach as one of the founding fathers of our party. Many aspirants have been here, but your reach has also made it possible to have one of the special assistants to the President here. That will speak volume,” Governor Akeredolu said.

The Governor added that the party and the delegates must think about an aspirant with years of investment, competence, capacity and reach while choosing the candidate to fly the flag of the party.

“We have said it on the people’s behalf. The presidency must come to this Southwest. The governors in the Southwest have spoken. By the grace of God, some of us believe that the train of this country must have a smooth ride.

“Think about Nigeria. Think about the investment over the years. Think about competence. You must look at the background of everybody, the reach and capacity. You have our good wishes as you proceed. Only God enthrones,” he submitted.

Asiwaju Tinubu saluted Governor Akeredolu for recreating the future and setting the Sunshine state on the path of economic prosperity.

“I am here to say thank you always. Thank you for inspiring one of our best. I watched a programme of the Sunshine state and I saw a very brighter future. The governor has been recreating the future .

“I saw you planting Cocoa and distributing seeds. That’s the road map to the future prosperity. Just three day ago, I saw him again putting down oil-palm plantation seed. Talking about the future, thank is what we need. If we look at the missing part of the past, we will stay depressed. But if we look ahead, we can recreate the future,” Tinubu said.

Tinubu, who lamented the division in the country, assured that he will unite the country if voted into power.

“We created APC. I am one of the founding fathers of APC. I am very proud of it. What has been missing in this country is the spirit of unity. Problems, sorrow and anguish are created by human beings. Divisions are created by those who benefit from divide and conquer. The truth is we are Nigerians. And we hold that green passport proudly. Yes, it is difficult right now. The democracy we choose, it is twist and turn.

“Ondo state has bitumen. You need a federal government that will put research in place and make it work. A sea port is a very capital-intensive matter. Unfortunately, the country has no long-term money except short-term funds. We have to find investors and partners and build a sea port for Ondo state.

“When I got to Lagos, it was a jungle city. Dead bodies on the street. But I started with a good team. I refer to them as unbreakable team. Yes, there is a limitation on calendarised term. There is no amount of steel and metal you build that will be as great as a legacy than the people you developed. That’s my philosophy.

“We must recognize the need for our country faster. And make it a priority. Ondo, you are working. Aketi is working. What he needs is me. A very solid federal partnership that will forge the economy of this country and state ahead of us. We can reproduce glass. We have so much on the ground that we can use for revenue generation. And we will be rich for it.

“We will set the path of prosperity for our children. I have the brain. I am a better thinker. I am a better doer. That’s why I want to beg you delegates to recognize me. To distinguish me. I will rebuild Nigeria. I will unite Nigeria. Develop Nigeria. Use our diversity for prosperity other than division. There is merit in our collaboration. I have begged Aketi to join me in our efforts to revive the first national anthem. I can promise you that you will see prosperity,” he said.

2023: Ministers declare Tinubu God’s choice at crusade

A coalition of church founders and ministers under the auspices of the Integrity Ministers International Ministry incorporated (IMIM), yesterday at a prayer crusade formally unveiled Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as God’s choice for the 2023 presidential elections.

Addressing a mammoth crowd at the headquarters of IMIM at the Ikorodu axis of Lagos, Bishop Kayode Williams, Founder and Vice President of IMIM, revealed that the divine, prophetic message from God indicates that Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is the right person to lead the country come 2023.

According to him, God’s mandate to IMIM is to pray for the wellbeing of the country including its leadership. “It is true we’re all suffering now. But God has revealed to us that His anointed choice for the 2023 is Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He will turn around the fortunes of the country for good, so saith the Lord,” Williams stressed.

Bishop Williams said the successful emergence of Tinubu in the forthcoming presidential elections was certain according to God’s decree, even as he urged Nigerians “to wait on Lord for God’s promise never fails.” Speaking earlier, President of the IMIM, Hon. Justie Oluawaseun Shogbola, a retired Justice of the National Industrial Court, in her opening remarks said, “The important prayer Nigeria by the IMIM is to fulfill God’s mandate to pray for the nation, Nigeria and unveil the prophetic, divine message. Thus sait the Lord! God has chosen and anointed a president for Nigeria in the 2023 elections.

Rev. Segun Akanbi, executive member of IMIM, while praying for the leadership of the country, said, “Tinubu is the sun that will shine brightest amongst the clouds. We pray for God’s guidance and protection for Tinubu.” The highpoint of the occasion was the official unveiling of Tinubu’s poster by the IMIM to the public. Other clergies at the event were Rt. Rev. Dr. James Famofo, oldest chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria southwest chapter, Apostle Dr. Johnson Ade Olabode, founder and President of the Love of Jesus Evangelical Ministries (LOJEM Inc.) and Rev. Segun Ilesanmi among others.

Akinwumi Adesina strikes again, by Femi Adesina

Anytime he traverses the land, air or sea like a troubadour, he must bring good tidings. Each time the Nigerian President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) comes to see President Muhammadu Buhari, he never comes empty handed. He must bring goodies and goodies for his home country.

Tuesday this week was not different. Dr Akinwumi Adesina, former Minister of Agriculture, came on a proactive rescue mission. Something was severely threatening food security in Africa, and Nigeria particularly. It calls for urgent action.

Each time the two gentlemen meet, they start with banters. So comfortable are they in each other’s company.

The jokes and bonhomie over, the AfDB President burst the speaker: “Urgent actions are needed to prevent a food crisis in Africa.”

Why? How? When? What can be done? The questions came tumbling out, like water cascading from a burst dam.

Dr Adesina provided all the answers.

“I am here Mr President to brief you on the impacts of the Russian-Ukraine war and its implications for food security in Africa, and Nigeria; and to intimate you with decisive actions being taken by the African Development Bank to avert what is a looming food crisis.

Russia and Ukraine dominate export of wheat and maize to Africa. With the disruption of supplies arising from the war, Africa now faces a shortage of at least 30 million metric tons of food imports from Russia and Ukraine, especially for wheat, maize, and soybeans.”

As the man spoke, suddenly Russia and Ukraine were not so faraway again. They were right there in the Diplomatic Room of the Presidential Villa.

More statistics: “Price of wheat has soared in Africa by over 45% since the war. Prices of fertilizers have gone up by 300%, and the continent faces a fertilizer shortage of 2 million metric tons. If unmet rapidly, food production in Africa will decline by 20%, and the continent would lose over $11 billion in value of food production.”

Holy Moses!

The AfDB boss quoted the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, who had said: “We are now facing a perfect storm that threatens the economies of developing countries.”

If there’s anything President Buhari is concerned about, it is that Nigerians should be able to feed themselves, without recourse to massive food importation. That was why he encouraged us to return to the land, put his money where his mouth is by funding agriculture massively, and today, we have a lot to be thankful for. Food security is almost a reality in the country.

But because the world is now a global village, and no nation is an island, the Russian-Ukraine war could still affect some fundamentals of our food security. So, what to do? Fortunately, we have our own ‘export’ to the world at the AfDB. He unfolded what he has in store for Africa, and for Nigeria, our own dear native land.

Mr President, I know that you are also worried about the effects on Nigeria…The African Development Bank, under my leadership, is fully prepared to meet this new challenge head on. The Bank has developed a $1.5 billion Africa Emergency Food Production Plan to support countries to produce food rapidly, to mitigate the effects of the war on food prices.

“The plan will support countries to produce 38 million metric tons of food. This will include 11 million metric tons of wheat; 18 million metric tons of maize; 6 million metric tons of rice; and 2.5 million metric tons of soybeans.

“The total value of the additional food production is $12 billion. This plan, which is before the Board of Directors of the Bank for its approval, will be rolled out by the end of May and will cover all countries of the Bank.”

What is in it for me, that is the question people often ask. What’s in it specifically for Nigeria?

Nigeria is top priority under the emergency food production plan. For the wet season of 2022, the plan will support 5 million smallholder farmers in Nigeria. They will cultivate 2.5 million hectares: one million hectares for maize; one million hectares for rice; 250,000 hectares for soybeans; and 250,000 hectares for sorghum.

“For the dry season of 2022/2023, the plan will support one million farmers across 10 northern states. We expect that this will support 500,000 hectares of wheat. Overall, the Emergency Food Production Plan for Nigeria will produce 9.5 million metric tons of food.”

Call this being proactive, or preparing adequately for the rainy day, and you are right on the money. Since 2015, President Buhari had seen into the future, repositioned the agriculture sector in the country, and he is now receiving viable support from outside. Support that won’t end up in private pockets. God bless leaders who care for their people, particularly the weak and vulnerable.

Dr Adesina said the AfDB will also support Nigeria to develop Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones.

“We have helped to mobilize $540 million for the program. The African Development Bank has approved a total of $210 million. The Islamic Development Bank, and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) have approved $170 million, and $160 million respectively, towards the program.”

The Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones will be initially rolled out in 7 States: Kano, Ogun, Oyo, Kaduna, Kwara, Imo, Cross River, and the Federal Capital Territory.

Dr Adesina ended on a note of hope. “Dear Mr President, you are passionate about agriculture. Your passion is shared by me and the colleagues at the African Development Bank. What is needful now is rapid action by Nigeria to implement the program to further boost food production, reduce food price inflation, and transform the agriculture sector, while assuring food security, and creating jobs. Your leadership will be critical for success. Failure is not an option. The farmers are waiting.”

A delighted President Buhari thanked Dr Adesina profusely, encouraging him to work with the right Ministers back here, adding that Nigerian borders were closed for about two years to protect local farmers, and curb smuggling. “We made some progress,” he added.

For those who look at only the downsides of things, under President Buhari, we can be thankful to God that we can feed ourselves, and not crossing the borders to look for food. All other things shall soon be added to us.

Amen, somebody!
