Independence: Nigeria must work as others-James Abiodun Faleke.

Deputy Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in the 2015 elections in Kogi State and member House of Representatives, James Abiodun Faleke has urged the federal Government to continue in making more lives better.

He released the statement via one of his official new media handle where he encourage the government to look into some vital issues for the overall rapid growth of the economy.

Hon. James Abiodun Faleke said Nigeria must be restructured to reduce the overhead cost centers and move the funds to the states for industrial growth. No alternative.

We promised change from consumption country to producing products. Our educational system must go technical and give room for self employment.

We pledge better economy, improved electricity, good hospitals, functional school systems, good road network.

The rate of unemployment and lack of production capacity in the country will continue to lead to agitations. Nigeria must work as others.

As we celebrate 57yrs of Freedom, the present govt must continue to make life better. Only a working economy can reduce agitations.

He however expressed dissatisfaction over the bad state of the first capital of the country,  Lokoja.

As we celebrate 57th birthday of freedom of Nigeria, It is sad to see the first capital of the country LOKOJA in very bad state. Sad to see and feel the poverty of the people of the state.

Sad to have a govt of "new Direction"to highest level of maladministration and growth in poverty rate.

Nothing to celebrate in the state.

He finally then pray that God in his infinite mercy will soon bail us out.

Re Crisis Looms In Kogi Assembly As Yahaya Bello Shops for New Speaker

*Re Crisis Looms In Kogi Assembly As Yahaya Bello Shops for New Speaker*

Our attention has been drawn to a publication referred to above where in the hallucinations of a confused mind was copiously displayed.

Coming from the author, it should not have been dignified with any response but at times it is imperative not only to put things in proper perspective but to point out the distortions that can only come from concocted falsehood.

For the avoidance of doubt, there has not been any request for N10 billion loan from the Executive and no behind the scene approval was made for such.

The only request for loan was #1.9b  requested by the Executive to enable the state fulfill its counterpart funding obligations for SUBEB which was approved by the Assembly after due process.

Any alleged deduction of a fraction from a phantom sum is therefore not only ridiculous but mischievous.

The trip of Rt Hon M. O. Kolawole was to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session in USA but the author is so blinded by mischief to know the difference between the US and UK; a country the Speaker has not been to in almost two years.

On the rumored planned defection of Hon Ndako to the ruling party in the state; APC, it is a welcome development as it confirms the attractiveness of the party in the state for which the leader of the party in state, His Excellency Alh Yahaya Bello must be given credit.

The party's doors are opened to receive more from the opposition for more hands to be on deck to move the state to a greater height.

Kogi West is made up of three Federal Constituencies and since creation Lokoja/Koto Federal Consistency  has produced seven Speakers while Yagba Federal Constituency has produced two Speakers.

The emergence of Rt Hon M. O. Kolawole is the first time Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency will produce a Speaker in the State House of Assembly and the author's delusion is further substantiated by his ignorance of the fact that the SSG and the Speaker are neither from the same Local Government Area nor Federal Constituency.

Kogi State House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt Hon Mathew  Kolawole is united and focused to perform it's duties of making laws for good governance. No amount of speculations will therefore  affect the robust and cordial relationship between the Executive and Legislature in the State.

The confusion in the camp of those who do not mean well for Kogi State will always be compounded because the New Direction government must succeed irrespective of the present challenges the situation in the country has foisted on everyone.

Mischief makers are admonished to turn a new life and allow their wishes to be for the good of Kogi State.

For the author, his notoriety as a purveyor of false and malicious news has been reinforced which is a sad reflection of what society has become for persons who have become willing tools in the hands of desperate politicians who have lost out in the politics of the state.

The post of Mr Usman Austin Okai is therefore not only a collection of lies but a desperate and mischievous attempt to create a wrong impression about Rt Hon Mathew Kolawole, the state of affairs in Kogi State House of Assembly and the relationship with the Executive under the able leadership of His Excellency,  Alh Yahaya Bello.

The post as usual with others by  Austin Usman Okai is poorly researched and built on falsehood of a frustrated individual who is obviously pained by the prospect of PDP losing another stronghold; it should consequently be disregarded.

Workers’ Strike: Gov. Bello Tours Empty Offices In Kogi

Workers’ Strike: Gov. Bello Tours Empty Offices In Kogi, leaked audio reveals alleged death threats to NLC chairman

Kogi state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello was humbled by locked up, empty offices in Lokoja, the state capital.

Bello, who visited offices in government ministries and agencies in Lokoja on Monday, saw first hand the 100% compliance by civil servants to the strike directive from labour leaders.

All offices visited by the governor were silent like graveyards.

This humbling on-the-spot assessment by Bello was at variance with the reports published in some national dailies that workers in Kogi state shunned the strike called by labour leaders.

In the course of  Governor Bello’s tour to ministries in Lokoja, it was gathered that even commissioners and many political appointees were not in office.

Bystanders wondered if the commissioners and his political appointees are also on strike.

Some of the ministries visited by the governor are Ministry of health, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Graphic newspaper, Radio Koogi, State Secretariat’s, Ministry of Education, Agriculture amongst others.

Governor Bello, in a letter through his Secretary to the State Government, Folashade Arike Ayoade had threatened workers with no work no pay if they eventually comply with the strike.

Meanwhile, a leaked audio from a government function is going viral in the state. In the leaked audio, the Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor, Edward Onoja was heard telling the state NLC Chairman, Comrade Onuh Edoka, that it is natural for him to go for the labour leader’s head if he feels he is against the government.

“Onuh Edoka, you are from Olamaboro local government, so by virtue of where we come from, we are brothers. We are Christians.

“I recall a time you knew i was going for your head because i felt you were trying to jeopardise a vision that i believe in, knowingly or unknowingly, but i was going for your head. It was natural, even though you are my brother,” he said.

Just yesterday, labour leaders in the state raised alarm that their lives are under threat from agents of government because of the ongoing strike action.

It was reliably gathered that some of the union leaders are currently in hiding because of these threats.

It was a weekend of great political breakthrough, movement and activities for the campaign train of Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi (OBA) as he made royal visit to the Maigari of Lokoja, Obadofin of Kabba and Obajemu of Oweland for royal and traditional endorsement.

From one community to another, the people came out in huge numbers in solidarity with a senatorial aspirant for Kogi west, Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi (OBA). Several people have described the crowd as unprecedented and a demonstration of the readiness of the youth to mobilize one of them to become the next Senator of Kogi west senatorial district.

A youth leader in Lokoja LGA, Bawa Kassim who spoke to the press said that the political aspiration of Omoluabi has received the endorsement of God and the entire Youths of the zone, he said they are already mobilising across the Wards of the seven (7) LGAs of the senatorial district to support the youth aspiration.

The Maigari of Lokoja describes the Youth as the hope and future of the state, he said he was a youth leader during his time and that youths must be allowed to succeed. He prayed for him and offered useful words of advice.

The Obadofin of Oweland describes Omoluabi as shining example of Kabba Youth and said Omoluabi's ambition is a personal project he is committed to.

Obajemu of Oweland describes Omoluabi as a worthy son and  courageous young man that is making him and Oweland proud.

Several traditional title chiefs, Women and Youth leaders prayed for Omoluabi and promised to stand with him to the end

KOGI WEST 2019: Given your eloquence & Activism, I don't doubt your capacity to represent us... Ohimeghe of Koto tells Omoluabi

The ancient city of Koto Karfi received a huge influx of people across Kogi
West senatorial district even as the entire community came out in their numbers to receive, welcome and celebrate a friend and advocate of the community, Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi (OBA) on Saturday 23rd September 2017 when he went to the palace of the Ohimeghe of Koto Karfi for royal blessings and endorsement for his senatorial aspiration.

A visibly elated Omoluabi was seen acknowledging greetings and solidarity as he toured round town before moving to the palace of Ohimeghe.
While at the palace Omoluabi praised the administrative, religious and traditional leadership qualities of the Ohimeghe of Koto and described the royal father as a cosmopolitan, honest, sincere, patriotic and loving royal father whose stool also is known and revered across the state and country. He said the people of Koto are wonderful and great people who are responsible and patriotic. He describes the perennial flooding that affects the people yearly as regrettable, devastating, frustrating and obvious failure of successive government at the Federal level, he therefore promised a permanent solution when he is elected.
Omoluabi also assured the people of Koto Karfi that there suppressed state assembly seat would be restored in few months as he has taken the matter to court on behalf of the people. He described the situation that affects Koto Karfi, Kabba/Bunu, Ijumu and Yagba west as the highest form of injustice, Democratic rape and robbery that will be corrected soonest through the court.

While responding, the Ohimeghe of Koto described Omoluabi as eloquent, energetic, resourceful and promising. He therefore assured him of the support of the people of Koto basically because of his efforts to assist the community to get their suppressed constituency restored. He prayed for him and told him that his doors are open to receive Omoluabi anytime he choose to stop by.

Several people of the community also prayed for the man they described as a true political advocate and sincere statesman

RE:OKUN LEADERS SHOPS FOR DINO MELAYE’S REPLACEMENT CALLS TEE JAY YUSUF TO CONTEST

YAGBA FOR SENATE 2019 INITIATIVES.

Sequel to the unpatriotic dividable and falsified call by an unidentified group named OKUN LEADER’S FORUM to a very reputable and dogmatic leader, Hon. T.J Yusuf to replace Senator Dino as the Senator representing Kogi west coming 2019.

The conveners of
Yagba For Senate 2019 Initiatives wish to clearly state to the constituents of Kogi West and to our distinguished honourable the hidden truths behind such malicious and malevolent call.

Foremost, there is no such group  as far as Yagba and Okun land are concerned. It is a creation of attention seeking individuals, mischief makers, who we are not sure are even from Okun Land and Kogi
west at large because their stands are nothing to write home about.

Moreover, the group’s false clarion call was made without considering the existing unity in the constituency that goes along with the display of equity in the past. Hence, their aim is selfish and malicious which is capable of depriving us of our existing peace and thus divide us.

However, with much joy from our heart, we know that these set of individuals whom the whole Kogi West is trying to eradicate from the senatorial district, (because they have been the cankerworm destroying our political system), will not succeed because the Hon.T.J Yusuf they are trying to lobby with is one of the foremost politicians in Okun land who understands the need for balances, and he will endorse the rotational arrangement because even in his own Federal constituency he understands that the rotation has made him a member of the House of Representatives and he does not discredit that process, neither does he challenge it, nor criticise it, and he could never have gotten the position if there was no respect  for that process.

Furthermore, the Hon. T.J Yusuf that we know is a democrat that believes in the unity of his people and  rotation of power as an instrument of democracy, he is a product of
justice and equity(the instrument he used in 2011 against Senator Dino Melaye in the Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal constituency representative contest), and he can distinguish between a mirage and reality

Hence, we call on the distinguished Hon. T.J Yusuf, his political family, the constituents of Kogi West and the public at large to decline such malevolent call and embrace the call for fairness and equity by supporting the Yagba For Senate 2019 Initiatives so as to strengthen our democracy.

GOD BLESS!!!!!!!!

WHY I WANT TO BE PRESIDENT OF OKUN DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION (ODA)

BY BARRISTER FEMI MOKIKAN

OMO OKUN OLORIRE OOOO
OMO OKUN OLORIRE OOOOOOO
OMO OKUN OLORIRE OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

WHY DID I PUT MYSELF FORWARD AS A CANDIDATE FOR THE OFFICE OF THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT OF OKUN DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION?

After a deep introspection that went on for months, I came to one conclusion. Sitting down and grumbling and apportioning blames do not yield desired improvement in any setting. What does is taking action. Reasonable action. Positive action. Result-oriented action.

This is precisely why I am doing this. I aspire to be President of ODA because I am convinced that OKUN PEOPLE AND OKUN LAND CAN BE BETTER IN MY LIFETIME.

With like- minded individuals running the affairs of the Association as the new Executives, Okun should assume her rightful place amongst comity of people in Kogi State in particular and Nigeria in general.
It is not debatable that every aspect of our life as a people can be and should be better in our lifetime.

GRATITUDE TO OUR FOUNDING FATHERS AND ALL PAST EXECUTIVES

The founding fathers of ODA and all the Executives that had the privilege to serve the good people of Okun as the champions of ODA did their best and must be appreciated and commended. As the current Executive prepares to pass the baton on to a new team, we owe each and every one of the outgoing Executive members’ and the ones before them tremendous appreciation and gratitude for their doggedness, never-say-die spirit and selfless commitment, in spite of all the odds and challenges that ordinarily should discourage people of lesser stuff. Jehovah God will keep you for us in excellent health and you will see more of the good life you worked so hard to give to our people.

MY AGENDA

As we all know, election into the various offices of the Executive of ODA is on individual basis and not on party basis. For this reason, individuals seeking election into any of the offices, particularly the office of the National President, will have his or her own agenda.

The Okun land of my dream, as one of those seeking election into the office of the National President of ODA, is an Okun land that will be most admired and respected by all. It will be most admired and respected because it is safe, peaceful, prosperous, beautiful and welcoming, blessed with descent, creative, compassionate and great people with sound mind. I envision an Okun land where the shared values of our founding fathers become the framework for the foundation of our actions.

SPECIFIC AREAS/ISSUES OF CONCERN

There are several issues that I am interested in pursuing for the good of our people. Listed below are the Top 12 of these issues

1. UNITY, ONENESS AND TEAM SPIRIT

If there is anything that makes us as a people vulnerable to the social, political and economic vicissitudes of modern day Nigeria, it is the lack of unity, oneness and team spirit amongst us.

While we proudly lay claim to being an Okun Man or Woman, of a truth, our passion, interest and concern is far from promoting the common good of and for Okun. Our thoughts and acts of omission or commission are self-seeking, self-centered, parochial, narrow and short-sighted.

Sadly, and unlike our other neighboring peoples, we as Okun people do not have a central figure that we all can revere and look unto as a rallying point for instruction, counsel, advice or reprimand. Notwithstanding, we can do better. In the words of our fathers - owo ara eni onkamu se ala eja. You do not catch a sliced fish from the river. You slice it yourself.

We do not need the state or federal government to bring unity, oneness and team spirit to Okun people. We must make it happen on our own. Some people may, for good reasons, think it is impossible. For me, with God all impossibilities become possible. I believe we can do it. It will take time, effort, determination and resources, but we must start. And the time to start is now.

THE HOW TO (STRATEGIES)

a) Give the various Community Development Associations/Unions a strong voice in the affairs of ODA.

b) Promote transparent, honest, open and productive interpersonal and intergroup relationships.

ç) Active engagement of all strata of our various communities: Traditional Rulers, Development Associations/Unions, Youths, Students, Artisans and Craftmen, etc. in inter-communal visitations and projects in Okun land.

d) Inter-Communal support in various ways

e) Harnessing the potentials that abound in Okun men and women in and outside Okun land.

f) Promote Sporting activities amongst communities, through schools, colleges and clubs.

g) Immediate inauguration of O D A Unity Cup to be competed for at secondary schools and community levels to identify soccer talents that will blossom to become Ronaldo, Messi, Victor Moses, Michel Obi, etc. (Remember Pepsi Football Academy) I started one in Kiri that is about five years old now. This will be extended to other sports. Who says we cannot produce our own Usain Bolt.

2. ADVOCACY.

ODA, like every other Community Development Association, is a voluntary organization that is generally limited by its voluntary nature. It lacks the capacity to coerce its members; neither does it have the machinery to impose sanctions without weakening its effectiveness. Yet it must be effective to deliver on its mandate. For these reasons the most potent tool at its disposal is by means of ADVOCACY.

Advocacy is an activity by an individual or group which aims to influence decisions within political, economic, and social systems and institutions

Our advocacy role will extend to government at all levels, organizations in the private sector, NGOs in different fields, and individuals.

Our medium of advocacy shall include but not limited to media campaign, public speaking; lobbying; visitations; correspondences; networking, etc.

3. FUNDING

No organization can survive without adequate funding. One of the major obstacles to many development associations’ ability to deliver on their mandate is the reluctance or unwillingness of members to voluntarily support with resources. Several reasons account for this. One very much important reason is when people perceive a lack of accountability. Our team will combine the religious books together with our local deities to enforce accountability.  While it is true that our role is not direct physical development interventions, we will no doubt be requiring funding for all of our activities. The Executive will develop a framework with which to generate fund from the sons and daughters of Okun land that God has blessed and positioned in different sectors of the economy. As Mordecai admonished Esther, may be it for this reason that God positioned you so. Every Kobo shall fully be accounted for.

4. YOUTHS AND STUDENTS.

Our focus here will be on massive reorientation and paradigm shift; attitude, self-esteem/self-worth; education; skills acquisition; recreational activities; annual sports festival; competitive spirit; etc.

5. SECURITY AND SAFETY IN OKUNLAND.

6. CULTURAL RE-AWAKENING.

Annual Okun Day to be celebrated in Okun land

7. BEFITTING SECRETARIAT

The Secretariat will consist of Theater-shaped main hall, Boardroom, Syndicate Rooms Library, offices, Catering and dining hall, etc.). The beauty of it is that the bulk of the work will be by direct labour. We will awaken the communal spirit of our forefathers that enabled them to reach unimaginable heights together in their days. We will therefore in the same spirit rely on Architects of Okun origin for the design of the secretariat. Building Engineers of Okun origin, Electrical Engineers, Plumbers, Carpenters, etc all of Okun Origin will all be called upon just as Nehemiah did.

8. BUILD BRIDGES

Build bridges of friendship, cooperation, and collaboration with our neighbors in Kogi East and Kogi West

9. POLITICAL OFFICE HOLDERS: ELECTIVE AND APPOINTIVE.

Harness fully the collective potentials of our elected and appointed sons and daughters into political offices at all levels

10. HOME AWAY FROM HOME

God has blessed Okun land with several highly successful and high flying individuals in different sectors of our national economy. Some are industrialists. Some are captains of industries. Some are public servants. Very successful people. Their friends and associates from other parts of the country look up to them for mentorship at personal and community level. They are very much at home where God has placed them. But they are home away from home. We must reach out to them and get them to develop interest in their home of origin. God has a reason for not making them Lagosians, or Americans, Europeans, Japanese, neither did He bring them to this world through Port Harcourt, Abuja, Enugu, Ibadan or Kano. He brought them through Okun land. God has a purpose for that.

11. RESTORATION OF FAMILY AND COMMUNAL VALUES.

12. CULTIVATING THE SPIRIT OF VOLUNTEERISM

GIVE ME YOUR VOTE AND TOGETHER WE WILL.

THANK YOU                                                                                                                                                                            Femi Mokikan

KOGI WEST 2019 : Joy, celebrations and jubilations as Kabba traditional, political and Youth Leaders pray for Omoluabi Bode

The ancient city of Kabba the traditional and political headquarters of Okunland and Kogi west was thrown into joyous mood as the son of the land and prominent youth leader, Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi (OBA) received blessings from the traditional, political and youth leaders of the city on Sunday 17th September, 2017.

Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi (OBA) who toured all the various traditional meetings and leaders went around with one message "purposeful, results oriented and welfarist representation when elected as the Senator representing Kogi West in 2019". He told the listening crowd that the first step for him to take is to receive the traditional, political and youths blessing of the home front before moving round the senatorial district.

Omoluabi said that after several months of asking from God, making personal resolution and reaching out to family and close Allies, there is now strong conviction and determination to contest the Kogi west senatorial election in 2019.

He said his representation will bring power back to the people, build the bridge between the age classes, attend to urgent need for government presence across Kogi west and make the mandate of the people work for, with and in their interest.

He promised to make his words count and represent the people with the fear of God

Yahaya Bello: Dino Melaye's Nemesis-Obafemi Babajide.

I have never given a chance to knowing or studying what nemesis really is, except the conventional bible teaching, referencing and perhaps, stories and myths related to the play of nemesis handed over through tales and folklores.

While I was having a fruitful discussion with a group of progressives yesterday, the word nemesis popped up and I had a rap on my brain to know what it deeply means.

Simply put, nemesis to me summarily means the inescapable agent of someone or something's downfall! It could be through a friend or foe; most times through ones rival, arch-rival, arch enemy, antagonist and even protagonist in varied cases.

In the ancient Greek, nemesis is known as Rhamnousia or Rhamnusia .Her name was derived from the Greek words nemêsis and nemô, meaning "dispenser of dues."

Rhamnousia is the goddess of Rhamnous who is believed to be in charge of indignation against and retribution for evil deeds and undeserved good fortune. She was the personification of the resentment aroused in those who committed crimes with apparent impunity, those who have inordinate ambitions and uncouth good fortune.

Nemesis i.e Rhamnousia, is believed to be responsible for checking excesses or undue luck, favour gotten through tricks and pranks, especially at the detriment of persons or group of people through the back door; little wonder she was seen as an avenger or punishing divinity.

Another swift but interesting meaning of nemesis as researched, is a person or thing that is very difficult for someone to defeat or conquer. In other words, people one helped bring in through the back door could just be ones bad luck, antagonist or nemesis.

One of the things that caught my attention was the fact that nemesis has a symbol; Like justice, her symbol, like that of justice is also a measuring rod or scale, "osuwon" in yoruba. Does it now mean that nemesis is justice? If not, does it mean justice and nemesis are Siamese twin conjoined with no option of separation? This I believe is debateable probably in another discussion sometimes later.

If the questions raised in the paragraph above seems true, then it will be just apt to say that Sanator Dino Melaye has met or he is about to meet his nemesis in his protégé and once hurriedly arranged mentee.

When the rumour of recalling him started, I took it with a pinch of salt not knowing that the actors involved have beautifully mastered their act perfectly and are ready to unleashing the terror continuously until the targeted is captured. It looked as if they left no stone unturned as reality began to unveil itself on the recalcitrant Senator.

Again, my research showed me that nemesis doesn't fight a no just cause, meaning that you must be involved in a particular act before she strikes.

Moving forward, was Dino involved in enthroning Yahaya Bello? Yes! Was he offered incentives in kind and otherwise? Absolutely!!
So what caused the crack, the fight and the war? He Dino, wants to have absolute control of Bello. Does it look like greed, undue fortune or influence or impunity? Totally yes!!!

Not even the court that Senator Dino ran to could safe or halt this recall process as it where as all is really looking set for the home coming of SDM the "ajekun iya" crooner. This further confirms the adage that advices anyone who wants to dine with the devil to please make sure they have a very very long spoon.

Of all the past Senators produced from kogi West senatorial district, none of them had the luck of been badly battered, bruised and boxed to the corner like the present Senator Melaye who happens to be youngest among them to have taken a senatorial seat from that axis. Painfully so is that, the man pioneering his exit, is the same man he foisted on people as God's will for the state. If Yahaya Bello as purported by SDM is God choice for the state, then whatever he does (including sponsoring Dino's recall) is God's will and must be accepted by all without questioning.

Another lesson learnt from this episode is that, as much as you help outsiders, please extend same to your kinsmen because when outside becomes too hot, you won't have an option than to return home. Just imagine that SDM was not overtaken by self aggrandizement, he would have thrown his weight at the emergence of Faleke his kinsman; today, this unnecessary bickering and show of strength wouldn't have turned so messy before it is nipped in the bud.

Though Senator Melaye characteristically felt, he could cause GYB a sleepless night but more than the proverbial child that won't allow her mother sleep in the night, he himself will not only keep vigils but will also be deprived of taking a nap at day time.

My brief research into nemesis, got me the conclusion that, Yahaya Bello sadly, is the "dispenser of dues" to Dino Melaye. He is the male version of Rhamnousia who is assigned by destiny to avenge Dino's wrong doing to the entire state because of present and personal gains. But who now is GYB's "dispenser of dues", who is Yahaya Bello's nemesis?

Babajide Obafemi writes from Lagos, Nigeria.

Kogi Speaker pays Visit to Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja - Foot medical bills for some patients.

The Honourable Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Prince) Mathew Kolawole has paid an unscheduled visit to the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja to commiserate and sympathized with some patients at the orthopaedics section of the hospital.

OKEBUKUN HIGH SCHOOL AND INFTRASTURAL CHALLENGES

Basic infrastructures are no doubt a fundamental in assuring quality education and overall educational development.  Such infrastructures are the basic facilities and capital equipment needed for its proper functioning. The importance of basic infrastructure to education cannot be overemphasized. These infrastructures can come in the physical structures such as buildings – good classrooms, well equipped laboratory, adequately shelved library, conducive staff room, sport facilities, good landscape, conducive hostels among others.

On the top of this structure comes good management team. A soothsayer is not needed to predict what the effects of having the above listed items will have on the quality of education in such a school. The ripple effects of its inadequacy could spell mean doom.
Without going into much history, it could be said that Okebukun High School has always had its share of infrastructural challenges over the years, which is not a peculiar problem but a common denominator among other rural community schools. It is no history that the school is a product of community efforts that bore its birth in 1983.

It was a rural community effort that could not be compared to what a government funded project would have produced. Even as little as it could have appeared then with just few classrooms, it was a great feat achieved by the community trail blazers who had great dreams. Then and there, a seed was planted. A seed that was to grow and birth more.
No doubt, Okebukun High School has enjoyed directly and indirectly both individuals and government supports apart from the community efforts which had seen the school grown to the extent that it could accommodate a large number of student from Junior Secondary School 1 to Senior Secondary School 3 over the years. Despite the available number of classrooms, it did not rank as the best of a conducive environment for learning – some classrooms are without doors, windows, ceilings, nor floors; inadequate books in the library etc, were major features.

However, against these odds and more OHS had thrived within limited resources to produce outstanding men and women who are doing well in their chosen endeavors in the society – 9 classrooms and a hall, a 20 square meter library starved of relevant books. It grew in success that it commanded the attendance of students both from surrounding communities with or without secondary schools, including Kabba and  beyond Lokoja.

All that has become history.
It must be stated that the present helpless state of the infrastructures in the school, just as earlier stated did not start today and should therefore be largely blamed on the seeming negligence by the community and the school management. This is because as commendable as it was the effort of the community for the establishment of the school, there was no continuing effort to see to the completion of all the classrooms to the most conducive atmosphere. The only floored and plastered structures in the school with windows had been only four classrooms and the principal’s office for a long time. The school was no longer taken seriously as a community project with diligent attention to infrastructural development. Also, the school management at various dispensations has not done enough to make the classrooms more befitting and comfortable for learning.

Most of the interventions that have taken place had been a misplaced priority no matter how laudable. Hence, the dilapidation we have today as OHS. Okebukun High School has simply become a shadow of itself – a contrast to our founding fathers’ dreams.

The wayforward
Considering what is on ground now, it is a project that will have to start from the scratch. There is a need for overhauling the structures by way of a total renovation. Therefore, the following are urgently needed to be carried out:
Renovation of all the classrooms – roofs, windows, doors and floors – to a befitting and conducive standard.
Construction of a larger and new library and adequately shelved with relevant books.
Re-introduction of science courses and conversion of a classroom to a laboratory that is well equipped.
Provision of comfortable learning desks.
Putting in place a good management team and experienced teachers among others.

These and more will bring about the turnaround that is desperately needed. Therefore, it requires our collective efforts to achieve these goals and the former and new glory restored.

It is possible!

Comrade Niyi Olorunyomi
Lagos.

Re: Sale of Okun Patriots

Our attention has been drawn to the mischievous post of one Mr. Olamide Femi who not only alleged the sale of this platform on his facebook wall but went further to send same to the inbox of lots of people. Ordinarily, the post would not have been dignified with any response but when people started making enquiries on it, the reasonable thing to do is react to allay the fears of Patriots to our unwavering commitment to the ideals for which this noble platform was created.

The perpetrators of this mischief are known and at the appropriate time, they shall be exposed for all to see.

This unfounded allegation has been noted and appropriate action will be taken to serve as deterrent to anyone contemplating similar defamatory action in the future.

For the avoidance of doubt, the ‘Okun first’ agenda remain the fulcrum on which the quest for a better Okunland we aspire stands and no amount of mudslinging will derail us in the task.

The frustration of the perpetrators of this nefarious attempt to drag hard-earned reputation in the mud is understandable because this platform has become what they hoped for in the platforms they have created which has been a mirage hence the futile attempt to discredit the administrators of this platform.

This platform predates the coming into office of the present political gladiators in Kogi State and particularly in Okunland. We have and will continue to resist any attempt by anyone or group of persons to subsume collective interest in personal selfish interests.

There is no cause for worry as we remain resolute in the march towards the development of Okunland and will not be distracted by mischievous insinuations. The objective moderating and guiding task of the administrators of this platform remain and will not be derailed.

Sincere gratitude to Patriots who saw and drew our attention to the malicious post and others who never doubted our integrity and said as much. The confidence reposed in us is appreciated and will never be betrayed

Sleep with estranged Olori of Oni and die prematurely-Ifa Priest.

The recent crash of Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi and his former wife, Olori Wuraola's 17-month old marriage continues to generate mixed reviews home and abroad.

The latest to comment on it is popular Ifa Traditionalist, Playwright, Actor and Author, Yemi Elebuibon who spoke to SUNsaying ex-Olori Wuraola, must necessarily undergo appropriate traditional cleansing process to enable her to regain normal life.

While noting that Ooni would not be the first Yoruba Oba to be seperated from his wife, Elebuibon stressed that marriage breakup is not very common among Yoruba Obas, 'the wife of the Oba will be asked to consult Ifa and Ifa will give directions on how she will make the necessary atonement for her cleansing. In Yoruba tradition, a woman who has been married to a king cannot lay with any other man even if the marriage breaks up. But when the right atonements have been made, there won’t be problem'.

On the kind of problems which an Oba’s ex-wife might encounter if she refuses to undergo the traditional cleansing rites, Elebuibon said: 'for the woman, she might not really have a problem but for any man who sleeps with a queen or marries an ex-queen without the appropriate cleansing, the man may die prematurely, he may be struck with sickness or there might be retrogression in his life'.

He explained that if an ex-queen wants to remarry, she will have to do the cleansing with her new husband. Both of them have to take part in the atonement procedures so that they won’t have any future problem.  “Any marriage she would be going into must not be elaborate. They should go far away and avoid any flamboyant wedding,” Elebuibon warned.
