In a statement on his 60th Birthday anniversary, signed by his Media Adviser, Mr Tunde Rahman, Tinubu on Tuesday, described Faleke as a natural leader with passion, determination to excel and make a difference in people’s lives.

Charvid’s daughter weds in grand style in Abuja.

By Amuda Dan Sulaiman FAB

The nation’s capital, Abuja was agog on Saturday, 21st December, 2019 as Chief David Aiyedogbon Charvid, and his wife Mrs Aiyedogbon gave their daughter’s hand in marriage.

Dignitaries including politicians, captain of Industries, academics, religious and traditional leaders as well as top government functionaries were present at the colorful ceremony.

The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Smart Adeyemi and the Special Adviser to Kogi State Governor on Finance and Economic Planning, Asiwaju Ashiru Mukadam and other dignitaries attended the engagement ceremony held at the residence of Charvid in Gwarinpa, Abuja on Friday 20, December.

According to Aiyedogbon, the success of the marriage would depend largely on the head of the family, quoting from Ephesians Chapter 5, verses 22 to 25.

For the marriage to work, he advised the wife to submit to the husband while also enjoining the husband to always listen to advice from his wife

Pastor Aiyedogbon warned the relations of the couple to avoid interfering in their affairs as he encouraged the congregation to truly give their lives to Christ in order to partake in the marriage of the Lamb rather than the marriage of the anti-Christ.

After the wedding, guests were later treated to a reception which held at the Precious Hall of Evelyn Centre, opposite Access Bank, Gwarinpa Abuja, anchored by popular musician, Asha-Afrika.

Speaking at the reception, Administrator of Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Hon. Isah Taufiq advised the couple not to share their problems with a third party either friends or parents.

“We are analogue and you are digital. Our advice can’t fit,” he said.

The colourful ceremony was attended by APC leaders, lawmakers, businessmen, diplomats and top government functionaries.

The couples Opriche and Olaoluwa who could not hide their joy were full of gratitude to God and well meaning Nigerians that graced the event.

KOGI GOV'T HOUSE CHAPEL DEDICATION: An eloquent testimony of GYB's religious tolerance and total faith in God-Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi

All Progressive Congress stalwart and former Kogi West Senatorial Candidate, Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi says dedicating Kogi Government House chapel twenty eight years after creation of the state is nothing but an indication of a government with the mind of God, a governor with huge ability for religious tolerance which is a scarce trait among political leaders in Nigeria, he made the comment during the official dedication of the Kogi Government House chapel and first ever Christmas Carol in Kogi Government House.

The very elated Omoluabi says Kogi has produced several governors since creation and none of them ever thought of this until Governor Yahaya Bello made it to happen, he described the act as indicating a man with the heart for God. He says the Governor cannot escape the reward of standing up for the truth and encouraging the Christian faithfuls. He quoted  the book of 2 Samuel 7: 12-15  which says :12 When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom.13 He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands. 15 But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. He says by this action,  all the blessings in the verses are his portion.

Omoluabi thereafter says Governor Yahaya Bello is a child of destiny who was raised by God specifically to build his house and establish his reign in Kogi, he says the Governor has by this decision qualified himself for Solomon's blessings.

*Governor Yahaya Bello has not stopped taking us by surprise, the latest is his audacious step, courageous decision and Godly mind that informed his decision to build a house for God, those who build for God establishes a transgenerational covenant of abundance blessings with God. Governor Yahaya Bello has shown that he has capacity to lead a religiously conscious nation like ours and succeed doing so, it is not a mistake that today the Deputy Governor, Speaker of House of Assembly, Secretary to State Government and Head of Service of the state are all Christians, it is an indication of how religiously unbiased the Governor is. I am therefore proud of his leadership and pray God reward him abundantly* Omoluabi says.

The foundation of a virile state is built on the basis of religious harmony,  equality, fairness and equal opportunities and Governor Yahaya Bello has consistently ensured that it is rightly so, Omoluabi says .While commending the Governor for the project, he commends the Deputy Governor, Chief Edward David Onoja for his role, support and unflinching loyalty to the Governor which has brought the chapel, he said  Edward David Onoja remains the link between good governance and the public, his intellectual capacity, patriotism and hardwork has assisted the Governor to succeed

PROPOSED FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE BILL, Sen Smart Adeyemi has scored another "A"

Sen Smart Adeyemi has scored another "A", restores hope and dreams of Kogi West people... *Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi*

All Progressive Congress stalwart, Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi has called on the well meaning people of Kogi State to rally round Sen Smart Adeyemi to succeed in the struggle for the upgrading of the Division of Agricultural College,  ABU Kabba to a full fledged Federal University of Agriculture which is currently on the floor of the Senate for considerations.

It will be recalled that the former Senator Dino Melaye sponsored same bill during the 8th Senate but unfortunately the bill couldn't get the needed concurrence from the lower chamber of the National Assembly, however being a pragmatic,  resourceful, experienced and patriotic representative, Sen Smart Adeyemi in  less than three weeks of taking oath of office has re-enlisted the bill on the floor of Senate for fresh passage at  the National Assembly.

This singular act of Senator Smart Adeyemi has been described by many as a true act of patriotism, focused representation and results oriented   leadership. The proposed  university is a project the people of Okunland and indeed Kogi State has prayed for and coming to stand with the people is the best way Senator Adeyemi can justify his mandate.

*When you have a Senator that is focused, patriotic, experienced and ready to work, you do not need to police him around before he does the right thing,  Sen Smart Adeyemi is surely a great ambassador of Kogi People, the University project is one that is dear to his heart right from his first term in Senate, I have no doubt in my mind that Senator Adeyemi is a goal getter, very cerebral lawmaker, rescillient and persistent, I encourage every Okun sons and daughters to mobilize support, solidarity and encouragement for Senator Smart Adeyemi. As the process in ongoing in the Senate, we will continue to pray for him, offer useful information that will assist him to succeed* Omoluabi says

The bill according to Senate order paper has gone through second reading, it's expected to follow the traditional process and come out successful

Issue Of Power Rotation In Kogi State Should Be Public Discourse – Gov Bello

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has called on stakeholders to make issue of power rotation in the state a public discourse.
Bello made the call on Tuesday while reacting to demands on power rotation made by the Kogi West Elders Forum who paid him a congratulatory visit at the Government House, Lokoja.
The governor said that he was not in the position to decide where his successor would come from after his second term in office, saying only God and the Kogi electorate can decide that.
He noted that the people of Kogi state believe in equity, justice and fairness.
He stated that as a governor, he wouldn’t say who will succeed him or where the next governor will come from amongst the three senatorial districts of the state, noting that only God has such powers.
Presenting the position of the Kogi West Elders Forum, Major General Julius Olakunle Osanupin (Rtd) stated that the governor should ensure that all stakeholders in the state are consulted in the formation of his new cabinet for input.
He urged the governor to ensure executive and political power rotation within the state, noting that the concentration of power in a particular senatorial district had been the cause of violence in the state in the past.
Governor Bello said he had been reaching out to all stakeholders for reconciliation and assured of his readiness to form an all-inclusive government that will reflect the interests of every segment of the state.
The governor also told the Elders that the three arms of governments in Kogi State were working in harmony, noting that the little disagreement with the judiciary as regards biometric data capturing of judicial workers had been laid to rest.
The governor promised to continue to fight insecurity and provide more infrastructure for the people while noting that all ongoing projects in the state will be completed.
Earlier, Gen David Jemibewon (Rtd) who led the Forum, in his opening remarks, stated they were on a congratulatory visit to the governor on his victory at the just concluded governorship polls in the state.
Amongst those that visited the governor include Alhaji Idris Yusuf, the Aguma of Tawari, Dr Tunde Arosanyi, Chief Funmilayo Fatima, Vice Admiral Joseph Ajayi (Rtd) and Col Olusegun Oloruntoba (Rtd).

Senator Smart Adeyemi has started again-Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi

It's time to move on together...

I chose this topic so that it captivates the required and obviously needed attention, this is so because I believe I have an honest opinion about Distinguished Senator Smart Adeyemi, I've had reasons to disagree with him and now that I've noticed a semblance of good representation in less than a month of taking oath of office, what is expected of a former critic and opponent like me is to say it as I see it now.

Many people have attempted and still attempting to guess what his representation will offer. Judging by his return to the Senate through a long walk to deserved victory is on its own a testimony of a deep seated desire to serve again and with much more gains this time.
For a man who is serving on a record third term, it is therefore not a surprise that his stewardship began to count from the first day of assumption of office.

Like I have argued before,  Kogi West has not been unfortunate to present a docile representative from 1999, but what Sen Smart Adeyemi represent at a time like this is maturity,  experience, cerebral capacity, eloquence, selflessness and readiness for a tenure of transparent service to his people. It is on this note that l specially applaud, commend and congratulate the people of Kogi West for using their resolve to enthrone Sen Smart Adeyemi again after four years of appraisals, introspection and reviews from behind the scene, it is obvious that Distinguished Sen Smart Adeyemi is more mature, informed and available to offer useful representation more than ever or anyone else. I commend His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Bello and His Excellency Chief Edward David Onoja for their unflinching support and unforgettable solidarity for the return of Sen Smart Adeyemi to the red chamber.

One of my cardinal reason for contesting Senate in 2019 general election was to offer service and representation that would revive the useful old values and blend them with the productive new trend to bring unstoppable progress, which was predicted on sound education through scholarship, sustainable and productive entrepreneurial development, infrastructural revamping and offer useful representation. I am happy to announce that the efforts and plans are not in vain, those great goals are fundamental key area of legislative interest of Distinguished Sen Smart Adeyemi, it is therefore Not about who is there, but about getting the work done, it's about fixing the problems.

While I had useful discussions with Sen Smart Adeyemi yesterday on various issues, I was pleasantly surprised to see a man who is articulate in his plans, up to date in his strategies, selfless in his representation, prepared for immediate overhauling of Kogi West. He took time to Marshall well thought out agenda for true emancipation of our people.

However, the most cheering is his immediate announcement of an all encompassing and inclusive scholarship scheme for students at various category across Kogi West, he said he is committed to returning the educational fortunes of Okun people to the good old days through scholarship, provision of educational materials and deliberate revamping of our schools to support and key into to the new direction government of Kogi State which is already making huge progress in that field.

Sen Smart Adeyemi did not announce a Scholarship scheme that will start tomorrow, but one that started immediately, I have the privilege to announce the good news to students of Kogi West origin schooling at various tertiary institutions that your Senator, Distinguished Sen Smart Adeyemi has graciously appointed me as a Secretary of the new Kogi West Educational Scholarship Committee that has been mandated to bring forth process of a scholarship scheme that will have noticeable impact in the academic pursuit of students of Kogi State origin schooling all over the country. This he says is the first step of his constituency development agenda,  he noted that one of the best way to reach out to almost all families in the Senatorial district is through a sustained and very rich scholarship scheme, he personally told me that education remain the mainstay of the people of Kogi West, being a very highly cerebral race, the people therefore need to be encouraged to maximise their potential and also engage the youthful minds for positive impact in their society.

Why Senator Smart Adeyemi decided to immediately focus on youth development and  educational advancement of Kogi West is what only him will be able to explain, because apart from this brilliant scholarship project,  he has also set machinery in motion for a large scale youth entrepreneurial development project that will provide platform for young people to be skilfully and gainfully engaged with productive venture, he has vowed to turn the zone to entrepreneurial and mini industrial hub to take our youth away from drug and joblessness. The manner with which he showed concerns about the alarming rate of youth unemployment,  hooliganism and lack of sustainable or profitable ventures of our youth is so great. Sen Smart Adeyemi told me in passionate terms how worried he is seeing agile and energetic youth doing nothing meaningful or profitable, he vow that his stay in the Senate will offer noticeable and unassailable impact in the life of the young people in Kogi West.

Time may not be enough to enumerate all that happened during the discussion, however I feel comfortable, satisfied and emboldened to speak about his laudable plans. I can only at the point enjoin People of Kogi West to rally around the man fate has presented to them as their representative. Through the platform of the indomitable, broad based and well rooted APC, we now have the time, opportunity and collective responsibility to provide useful support,  needed solidarity and total commitment to assist him in providing meaningful representation for our people. We may have had our tough, rough and stormy past, but we can still work together for the greatness of our land, our time of disagreements may be fresh in our memories, but we must activate the fond memories of our time of unity, friendship and togetherness.
Kogi West under Senator Smart Adeyemi shall be great and Kogi State under His Excellency, Alh Yahaya Bello shall be great.

Thank you

Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi mnipr,

Former Senatorial Candidate.

Governor Bello is a Christian friendly governor’- Onoja

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State have been described as arguably the most Christian friendly governor in Nigeria because of his open mindedness towards other faiths and his stance on religious tolerance.
The Deputy Governor, Chief Edward Onoja made this remark yesterday in Idah during the 132 years anniversary celebration of United Evangelical Church (UEC), formally known as Qua-Iboe Church.
Onoja said Governor Bello since assumption of office have united the state at all fronts and have ensured that religion or class was not a requirement to determine the growth or development of any individual or group.
He said for the first time in 28 years, a Muslim governor have thought it wise to construct a chapel in government house where, like their Muslim counterparts, Christians can also have a place of worship, saying that the gesture was divinely symbolic as it has planted the spirit of togetherness in the subconsciousness of the people.
The Deputy Governor declared that for any society to prosper, mutual tolerance must exist among the various groups not only in words but also in action.
He narrated how the governor have supported several evangelical missions within and outside the state, contributed hugely to construction of churches, donation of vehicles for evangelism and how he placed premium on capacity rather than ethnic or religious affiliation in all his dealings including when taking political decisions, and said only a leader with a divine calling could master such.
Onoja called on the people of the state to show love and mutual respect to one another, saying that it was a divine injunction to man to love his neighbor as one’s self.

GARBA SHEHU HAS GONE BEYOND HIS BOUNDARIES- Aisha Buhari

Nigeria’s development is hinged on the ability of public officials to execute their mandates professionally, and to be shining examples in their various areas of endeavor. It is not a good sign when officials abandoned their responsibility and start clutching at straws.

As spokesperson of the President, he has the onerous responsibility of managing the image of the President and all the good works that he is executing in the country. Rather than face this responsibility squarely, he has shifted his loyalty from the President to others who have no stake in the compact that the President signed with Nigerians on May 29, 2015 and 2019.

To make matters worse, Mr. Shehu has presented himself to these people as a willing tool and executioner of their antics, from the corridors of power even to the level of interfering with the family affairs of the President. This should not be so. The blatant meddling in the affairs of a First Lady of a country is a continuation of the prodigal actions of those that he serves. We all remember that the chief proponent appropriated to himself and his family a part of the Presidential Villa, where he stayed for almost 4 years and when the time came for him to leave, he orchestrated and invaded my family’s privacy through a video circulated by Mamman’s Daughter, Fatima, the public was given the impression that on arrival into the country I was locked out of the villa by Mr. President. Garba Shehu as Villa Spokesperson, knew the truth and had the responsibility to set the records straight, but because his allegiance is somewhere else and his loyalty misplaced, he deliberately refused to clear the air and speak for the President who appointed him in the first place. Consequently, his action has shown a complete breakdown of trust between the First Family and him.

Mr. Shehu was privy and part of the plan & it’s execution and he was shocked when he realized that I had publicized my return to Nigeria on October 12, 2019 and cleared the air on the many rumors that took over social media specifically, a job he was supposed to do but kept mute to cause more confusion and instability for his Principal and his family.

Garba then, vented his anger on the National Television Authority (NTA) Management insisting that the media crew to my office must be sacked. He succeeded in getting them suspended for doing their job. I had to intervene to save the innocent staff from losing their means of livelihood by involving the Department of State Services (DSS) in order to ascertain roles played by key actors in the saga.

It is at this late hour that I recall, sadly, that it was the same Garba Shehu who claimed that the government will not allow office of the First Lady to run.  He was later to confirm to one of my aides that he was instructed to say so by Mamman Daura and not the President. This antic attracted the anger of Nigerian women. He didn’t realize the fact that First Lady’s office is a tradition which has become an institution.

Today, even without a budget, I am able run my humanitarian programmes.

In saner climes, Garba Shehu would have resigned immediately after going beyond his boundaries and powers.

GARBA SHEHU NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND THAT THIS KIND OF BEHAVIOR WILL NO LONGER BE TOLERATED.

The latest of his antics was to wage a war on the first family through an orchestrated media campaign of calumny by sponsoring pseudo accounts to write and defame my children and myself.

Based on all the happenings between Garba Shehu in his misguided sense of loyalty and inability to stay true and loyal to one person or group, it has become apparent that all trust has broken down between my family and Garba Shehu due to the many embarrassments he has caused the Presidency and the first family. We all have families to consider in our actions and therefore it is in the best interest of all concerned for Garba Shehu to take the advice of the authority, given to him sometimes in the first week of November, 2019.

We will now address President Buhari With His Rank As a Military Dictator-Punch Newspaper

Punch Newspaper says it will henceforth address President Buhari with his rank as military dictator cos of alleged lawlessness & violation of rule of law

Nigerian National Daily, Punch has shared a notice which gave off its stand on the alleged lawlessness witnessed in President Buhari’s administration.
In a notice titled “Buhari’s lawlessness: Our Stand”, Punch stated that it will “henceforth prefix Buhari’s name with his rank as a military dictator in the 80s ‘Major General’ and refer to his administration as a regime until they purge themselves of their insufferable contempt for the rule of law.”
The national daily reiterated that it will not adopt the self-defeating attitude of many Nigerians looking the other way after each violation of rights and attacks on the citizens, the courts, the press and civic society, including self-determination groups lawfully exercising their inalienable rights to peaceful dissent.
It alleged that this administration’s actions and assaults on the courts, disobedience of court orders and arbitrary detention of citizens reflect its true character of the martial culture. The SSS and Police were called out by Punch who also accused the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed of vigorously pressing for anti-hate speech laws to restrict social media even after being harassed by the SSS and accused of “loitering” in 2014.
The notice reads in full;
“As a symbolic demonstration of our protest against autocracy and military-style repression, PUNCH (all our print newspapers, The PUNCH, Saturday PUNCH, Sunday PUNCH, PUNCH Sports Extra, and digital platforms, most especially Punchng.com) will henceforth prefix Buhari’s name with his rank as a military dictator in the 80s, Major General, and refer to his administration as a regime, until they purge themselves of their insufferable contempt for the rule of law.”
The entire country and a global audience are rightly scandalised by the unfolding saga over Omoyele Sowore and the unruliness of the SSS and the government; but it is only a pattern, a reflection of the serial disregard of the Buhari regime for human rights and its battering of other arms of government and our democratic institutions. PUNCH views this tendency and its recent escalation with serious concern, knowing as the great thinker, Edmund Burke, said that “the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Nigeria had trod a path, a veritable obstacle course, where repression, especially under military jackboots, was a malignant presence and this attracted heroic resistance by ordinary people, civil society groups and the press. But Nigerians have lately become lethargic, divided by ethnic and sectarian sentiments and weakened by widespread poverty brought on by a rapacious political class and bad governance.
PUNCH will not adopt the self-defeating attitude of many Nigerians looking the other way after each violation of rights and attacks on the citizens, the courts, the press and civic society, including self-determination groups lawfully exercising their inalienable rights to peaceful dissent. This regime’s actions and assaults on the courts, disobedience of court orders and arbitrary detention of citizens reflect its true character of the martial culture. Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) ran a ham-fisted military junta in 1984/85 and old habits obviously run deep.  Until he and his repressive regime purge themselves of their martial tendency therefore, PUNCH will not be a party to falsely adorning it with a democratic robe, hence our decision to label it for what it is – an autocratic military-style regime run by Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd).
Sowore’s travails are symptomatic: having ignored court orders granting him bail, the SSS, after much pressure following 125 days in captivity, released him only to stage a GESTAPO-style raid on the court where the journalist was standing trial. The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Ibrahim el-Zakzakky and his wife have spent over three years in detention in violation of court orders granting them bail and ordering their release. A former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, has been held in detention since 2015 in defiance of several court orders, including one by the ECOWAS appellate court that declared his continued incarceration illegal. Under Buhari, the SSS has become a monstrous and repressive secret police, acting often with impunity. Buhari bears responsibility for the state of repression because, as president, he can stop it today.
But the SSS is not alone. The Nigeria Police, whose notoriety predates Buhari’s second coming, has continued its serial abuse of human rights and is ever available to officials who routinely deploy police officers from the mundane abuse of sirens in traffic to arbitrary arrest and torture of victims. The police and military fail to understand that peaceful agitation and the right to associate are fundamental rights.
This situation is eerily familiar: as military head of state, Buhari’s appointee who headed the National Security Organisation, as the SSS was then known, Lawal Rafindadi, unleashed a reign of terror on Nigerians, featuring arbitrary arrests and torture in cells described by inmates as chambers of horror. Under the infamous Decree 2, agents had pre-signed detention papers, court orders were ignored and ouster clauses were inserted in decrees, while the press was specifically targeted with the infamous Decree 4 under which Tunde Thompson and Nduka Irabor were jailed.
Returning as an elected president, Buhari has followed the same template, appointing Lawal Daura as Director-General of the SSS, who re-enacted the Rafindadi playbook by his treatment of Dasuki and el-Zakzakky, among others, raided the homes of judges and twice deployed armed SSS heavies to foil the arrest of two former security chiefs by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Nigerian Navy authorities similarly ignored court orders to release Navy Captain Dada Labinjo, who they detained for over a year until his recent release on bail; Nigerian Army too detains suspects interminably on the grounds of being terrorism suspects.
Some governors have borrowed from this nefarious model, deploying security agents and perverting the law to punish critics and journalists. Critics, Dadiyata Idris and Stephen Kefas, have been arrested and arraigned. Agba Jalingo is facing a treason charge for offending the Cross River State Government. Jones Abiri, a local publisher in Bayelsa State, has been charged with terrorism while, in Delta State, two journalists are facing criminal defamation charges.
The regime’s Information and Culture Minister, Lai Mohammed, forgetting how, as opposition spokesman in 2014, he was harassed by the SSS and accused of “loitering,” has been vigorously pressing for anti-hate speech laws to restrict the social media. Abdullahi Sabi, a senator, along with others, has re-presented a hate-speech bill: their sole purpose is to insulate officials from criticism and compel unquestioned acceptance of Buhari’s draconian misrule.
Under the law, suspects cannot be held beyond 48 hours except by a court order. But the regime observes this in the breach. Yet, Nigeria is a signatory to the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, African Charter on Human and People’s Rights and the Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment and other treaties guaranteeing fundamental rights. The 1999 Constitution also spells out basic rights. But the regime chooses which rights or court orders to respect or obey. This is unacceptable. Critical segments of the society have been assaulted, silenced or compromised. It is time, as a Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, has strongly advocated, for civil society to rejuvenate itself and send the message to Buhari to “rein in his wild dogs of disobedience.” From the United States has come a message from the Department of State, two senators and Congress telling the Buhari regime to stop its shocking affront to the rule of law, reminding the General that “respect for the rule of law, judicial independence, political and media freedom, and due process are key tenets of democracy.”
Nigeria has had more than its fair share of draconian rulers, whether in military or civil garb, but none has succeeded in breaking our resilience and irrepressible spirit. This regime will not prove to be an exception. Nigeria, and Nigerians, will overcome. The strong desire of our people to enjoy the unfettered freedoms guaranteed by the constitution and the rule of law, including the freedom to speak freely and assemble peacefully, will again outlive, outlast and crush the spirit of despotism.
Buhari can still redeem himself and his out-of-control security agents and reclaim his past facade of tolerance. When Daura brazenly inserted himself in politics by recklessly sending armed masked SSS enforcers to besiege the National Assembly, as acting President, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo promptly sacked him and had him arrested. Buhari should similarly distance himself and his regime from the lawlessness and impunity of the current SSS DG, Yusuf Bichi, by dismissing him, ordering the release of all victims of illegal detention and compelling obedience to court orders. The SSS has not been efficient in the war against terror; it should perform its primary duty to safeguard the country. As a product of statute, its loyalty should be to the country, not to temporary occupiers of public office.
The regime’s repression cannot succeed but will further polarise the society and weaken national cohesion.  The Nigerian Bar Association has vowed to defend the sanctity of judicial authority, while Soyinka has warned that disregard for court orders could beget desperation and civil disobedience. Nigerians need to stop their supine acquiescence to oppression and learn to stand up for their rights as many are doing around the world, using all peaceful and legal means, including the right to protest and of peaceful assembly. It is Dasuki, el-Zakzakky, Sowore and others today, who knows who is next if repression is not resisted?

Mamman Daura gave presidential directive without my husband’s knowledge”

First Lady, Aisha Buhari has alleged that Alhaji Mamman Daura gave a presidential directive without her husband’s knowledge. Until recently, Mamman Daura, a nephew of President Muhammadu Buhari lives in Glass House inside the presidential villa.
The feud between the first lady and Daura’s family worsened in October when she returned from a two-month foreign trip
It became public knowledge when a video of the president’s wife asking questions and making comments about being locked out of a room and demanding that some people should pack their belongings went viral. She engaged Daura’s daughter, Fatima. Daily Trust had exclusively reported in September that the first lady angered by the development in the villa, left for abroad in August. The feud festered when she returned.
The first lady in a statement she personally signed and made available to our correspondent Wednesday morning , said the directive scrapping the office of the first lady was issued by Mamman Daura, using a presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu. Tagged, ” Garba Shehu Has Gone Beyond His Boundaries”, she said the directive embarrassed the president. The statement which was sent to our correspondent through Suleiman Haruna’s email, Aisha Buhari’s spokesperson reads: ” Nigeria’s development is hinged on the ability of public officials to execute their mandates professionally, and to be shining examples in their various areas of endeavor.
” To make matters worse, Mr.
” Mr. Shehu was privy and part of the plan and it’s execution and he was shocked when he realized that I had publicized my return to Nigeria on October 12, 2019 and cleared the air on the many rumors that took over social media, a job he was supposed to do but kept mute to cause more confusion and instability for his Principal and his family. “Garba then, vented his anger on the National Television Authority (NTA) Management insisting that the media crew to my office must be sacked. He succeeded in getting them suspended for doing their job. I had to intervene to save the innocent staff from losing their means of livelihood by involving the Department of State Services (DSS) in order to ascertain roles played by key actors in the saga. READ: I was locked out of Aso Rock, Aisha Buhari confirms video ” It is at this late hour that I recall, sadly, that it was the same Garba Shehu who claimed that the government will not allow office of the First Lady to run. He was later to confirm to one of my aides that he was instructed to say so by Mamman Daura and not the President. This antic attracted the anger of Nigerian women. He didn’t realize the fact that First Lady’s office is a tradition which has become an institution. ” Today, even without a budget, I am able to run my humanitarian programmes. In saner climes, Garba Shehu would have resigned immediately after going beyond his boundaries and powers.
” GARBA SHEHU NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND THAT THIS KIND OF BEHAVIOR WILL NO LONGER BE TOLERATED. ” The latest of his antics was to wage a war on the first family through an orchestrated media campaign of calumny by sponsoring pseudo accounts to write and defame my children and myself.
” Based on Garba Shehu’s misguided sense of loyalty and inability to stay true and loyal to one person or group, it has become apparent that all trust has broken down between him and my family due to the many embarrassments he has caused the Presidency and the first family. We all have families to consider in our actions and therefore it is in the best interest of all concerned for Garba Shehu to take the advice of the authority, given to him sometimes in the first week of November, 2019.” Haruna in a text message confirmed that the statement emanated from the first lady. A source around Garba Shehu said the spokesperson will not want to join issues with the first lady.
