Below is the communique released:

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF A 3-DAY SUMMIT
ON SECURITY, DEVELOPMENT AND UNITY BY THE OKUN
DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE (ODI) IN COLLABORATION
WITH OKUN DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION (ODA) ON
NOVEMBER 26, 2016 IN KABBA, KOGI STATE.
We the Okun Yoruba people of Kogi State from the six Local
Government Areas of Kabba/Bunu, Ijumu, Mopa-Muro, Lokoja,
Yagba East and Yagba West respectively at the end of a 3-Day
Summit aimed at breaking the bonds of underdevelopment in
Okunland, having collectively agreed to unite, collaborate and
promote the economic development of Okunland under a
peaceful and conducive environment to enable all citizens
express their potentials freely towards the advancement of their
common agenda, hereby unanimously resolve as follows:
1. That we re-affirm the right of Okun Yoruba people to their
fundamental and inalienable right to be grouped in a place
of their choice freely chosen and ruled by the government
of popular choice in a free and fair election based on
universal adult suffrage and that there is therefore urgent
and compelling need for Okun people to situate and
project their identity drawn upon their history, common
heritage and values within the country in order to
engender socio-economic and political transformation of
our people.
2. That we state unequivocally that we are Yoruba people
who trace our origin to Il- Ife, sharing social cultural and
linguistic affinities with the Yoruba of South West.
3. That Okun leaders must, as a duty, initiate immediate
steps towards cooperation and integration among the
six Local Government Areas in order to diversify our
economic base to boost socio-economic and political
development in Okunland thereby leaving such diversified
local economies relatively more financially stable, capable
of creating jobs for the youths, creating more opportunities
for our people to earn a living, less vulnerable to the boom
and bust cycles of state government allocations, thereby
promoting sustainable growth and development of
Okunland.
4. That in order to ensure a sustainable security architecture
in Okunland aimed at encouraging socio-economic
development, the development of the educational sector
through the establishment of private and public
universities; the development of the agricultural sector
through partnerships with relevant government and
international agro-based agencies with the active
participation of Okun youths; and an aggressive skill
acquisition regime remain a veritable escape route out of
poverty and insecurity.
5. That community policing and neighbourhood watch
capacities in Okunland should be strengthened beginning
with an aggressive security awareness programme in our
schools, leading to the establishment of an Okun
Neighbourhood Watch Organization (ONWO) in all
communities in Okunland to support the Police in
maintaining security of lives and property.
6. That realizing the great agricultural potentials in Okunland
and the need to utilize this God-given natural resource to
boost the living standards of our people through food
security, employment generation and preservation of the
environment, resolve that it has become expedient to
educate our people on the latest agro- based technology
and marketing strategies ranging from planting techniques
to value chain regime with the active participation of our
women and youths.
7. That realizing the enormous potentials in our women and
youths, the Okun people have resolved to encourage the
development of ICT solution centres across Okunland to
complement agriculture in order to build an army of skilled
women and youths determined to face the exigencies of
the modern day world and also curb unemployment and
poverty.
8. That the Okun Electorate should insist on
good leadership in all spheres as a people to ensure that
they elect into office only those who would truly serve
Okun people and espouse the great Okun ethics and
values true to our heritage.
9. That our politics must be in accordance with and in
furtherance of our values, our hopes and our collective
aspirations to promote growth and development in
Okunland.
10. That our unity is non-negotiable and flowing from that, we
reject any political, religious or other mechanisms aimed
at dividing us.
11. That leadership must emerge through the free choice of
the people, not by personal ambition; as such, aspiring
leaders must subject themselves to the counsel and
decision of the people in pursuing or forfeiting their
personal ambitions and aspirations.
12. That a situation where age no longer means anything to
the youths of Okunland; a situation where traditional rulers
no longer have control of their citizens and worse still; a
situation where we no longer have the fear of God in our
relationships and dealings with one another is
unacceptable and that there must be an urgent cultural
reorientation across Okunland in order to regain our lost
values and norms, thereby enhancing development.
13. That there must be a well thought out Integration and
Development Agenda for Okunland (IDAFO) which must
be initiated after this summit. Therefore, a high powered
IDAFO Committee shall be set up after the Summit to
articulate and produce the blueprint for adoption by the
Okun Congress to be called LATEST DECEMBER 2016,
from which a new ODA executive shall emerge and will be
inaugurated to run with this new Okun Agenda.
14. That Okun leaders shall immediately set up a Committee
to produce the blueprint for IDAFO to drive and guide our
developmental process. This will foster greater
cooperative integration, unity and development strategies
that will open up new opportunities for the rapid growth
and development of our communities in Okunland.
15. That we hereby resolve that this summit shall continue
bi-annually (twice a year) to deliberate and appraise these
programmes and activities towards the achievement of
our collective goals and aspirations as a people.
16. That we express our sincere appreciation to our respected
traditional Rulers, members of the National and State
Assemblies, members of Kogi State Executive Council,
Political, Religious and Leaders in other spheres of life,
who sacrificed their time and resources to ensure the
success of the summit.
17. That ODA should henceforth run its affairs largely on the
basis of sub committees for effective delivery of its core
mandates.
18. That in furtherance of the need to boost educational
development in Okunland, there is the need for the setting
up of Okun Educational Endowment Foundation to cater
for the educational advancement of Okun people
especially the less privileged.
19. That an urgent review of ODA constitution is necessary in
order to move Okunland forward.
20. That ODA should make it a priority to demand for the
relocation of the college of medicine of Kogi State
University to Okunland.

I can’t be at loggerheads with Tinubu, he’s a priceless asset – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has dismissed rumours that he and the All Progressives Congress leadership are at odds with one of the party’s chiefs, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing such rumours as unfounded and mischievous.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, said Buhari was highly embarrassed by such “suggestions”.
Shehu said the President was in regular contact with Tinubu before, during and after the Ondo State gubernatorial election.
He said any suggestion that the President and the party machinery were working to destroy Tinubu had no foundation in truth or any credibility.
He said the President was impressed by Tinubu’s assurance not to work against the party in Ondo State and that he honoured his words.
The presidential media aide also explained that President Buhari regards Tinubu as a priceless political asset to the party, with his immeasurable contributions to the development and progress of the APC known to all.
Shehu advised rumour mongers to stop spreading the seeds of discord and animosity between the President and Tinubu or the party, adding that Buhari is proud of his pivotal role in the APC and the movement.
Buhari commended Tinubu’s spirit of comradeship in promptly congratulating Rotimi Akeredolu who was elected Governor of Ondo State over the weekend.
Buhari also noted that at a time his administration is preoccupied with governance issues, rumours of divisions and alleged scheming within the party are counterproductive to internal unity and cohesion in the APC.
He appealed to APC members and supporters to ignore rumours that could harm party unity.

The candidates and political parties also cleared for the Garki Ward Councillorship, AMAC, were Hamza Lima (APC) and Danladi Jezhi (PDP).

Maitatsine metamorphosed to Boko Haram terrorists – NSA

Babagana Munguno
The National Security Adviser (NSA), Maj. Gen. Mohammed Babagana Monguno (rtd), yesterday revealed that the Maitatsine insurgents that ravaged the northern part of the country in the 1980s and led to the death of about 5,000 people metamorphosed into the present Boko Haram.
The NSA also said the problem of militancy in the Niger Delta region has called into question the power of the government to protect its citizens.
Monguno who was represented by the Director of External Services in his office, Mr. Abba Ibrahim, disclosed this in Abuja at the fourth Eminent Persons and Expert Group Meeting (EEGM) 2016, with the theme: ‘Dialogue on Current Security Challenges in Nigeria: Towards an All-Inclusive National Strategy,’ organised by the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPPS), Jos.
According to him, “The most significant security challenge to our individual and national peace and security is the menace of the Boko Haram sect. Though it started as a suppressed religious group called Maitastine in the 80s, it clearly metamorphosed to terrorist sect called Boko Haram in 2009.”
He noted: “Its terrorist inclinations manifests in the activities of the group which is now known as a notorious product of an unhealthy mix of religious and political chauvinism and extremism.”
The NSA stated that unfortunately, everyone is mutually enmeshed in a high degree of risk and uncertainty posed by the current security challenges which have festered from the inception of our state and have metamorphosed into hideous conditions in more recent times.
Baring his mind on the incessant herdsmen/farmers’ clashes, Monguno stressed that the unpalatable situation had spurred hot clashes and flared tensions which have now spread to states in the South-west, South-south and parts of the South-east.
On the Niger Delta crisis, the NSA said: “The militancy that has permeated the Niger Delta region has been most negatively impactful on our economy. Not only has it called the image of the state in the protection of citizens, it has made our tabbed oil rich nation of the confidence to court Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs).”
Monguno recommended that the current security challenges facing the country urgently presents the need for dynamism and pro-activeness in the formulation of a grand strategy of security within the state with standards that must take cognisance of the carrot and stick approaches.
“Dialogue presents the state with the opportunity to negotiate with and rehabilitate suspects who could be potentially productive resources to the state. Also, onus lies with the security agencies to wield the big stick where necessary, that is, to meet violence with more force to subdue any person or group whose actions deliberately undermine our security in order to maintain its paramount in ligation to protect lines and property.
“To ensure these however, the question of capacity of our developmental and security institutions have to be addressed so that emanating security strategies can work beyond papers,” Monguno added.
Earlier, the Director General of NIPPS, Mr. Jonathan Juma, said the conference was called to dialogue on the issue of various security challenges facing the country, and to address them.
He said at the end of the conference, actionable recommendations that would address the issue of security challenges would be submitted to the government.
Also, the Chairman, National Advisory Committee, Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Programme (NSRP), Odein Ajumogobia, said in this technological age, technology was not a luxury but a necessity in order to address the issue of security properly.
He explained that technology ensures real-time spring of information and enables efficient collaboration between different arms of government.

Corrupt Nigerians fighting my administration with stolen wealth – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has lamented that some Nigerians who had corruptly enriched themselves in the past are currently using the stolen funds to wage war against his administration.
He said the situation has made his administration’s ongoing anti-corruption war “tough and grueling.”
According to a statement on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President spoke on Thursday in a meeting he had with the United States Secretary of State, John Kerry, on the margins of conference on climate change, COP22, in Marrakech, Morocco.
Although he said corruption was fighting vigorously back, the President assured Kerry that the anti-graft war would be won.
Buhari said corrupt people had accumulated a formidable arsenal of illicit wealth, which they were now deploying against the government on diverse fronts.
“But it is a war we are determined to win, and which we will win. People of goodwill are behind us, countries like America and many others are with us, and we will surely win,” he said.

Mobilize all corps members- President Buhari

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Sulaiman Zakari Kazaure, has said that despite the inadequate budgetary allocation, which has stalled the agency’s operation in the past few months, President Muhammadu Buhari had given the marching order to the agency to mobilise all qualified prospective corps members for the 2016 Batch ‘’B’’ service year.
In all, the NYSC boss said that over 170,000 corps members will be mobilised this month, while the remaining 86,000 members will be mobilised in January next year.
He stated this while interacting with journalists in AbujaAccording to him, ‘’In the past few weeks, the NYSC has been in the news over its presumed inability to mobilise all qualified prospective corps members for the 2016 Batch B service years. As much as there is always public interest in the affairs of the scheme, there is the need to put the fact in their right perspective and clear the lingering doubt.
‘’In summary, the NYSC is prepared as always, to mobilise all qualified graduates for the next service batch. However, it must be emphasised that as a budget-dependent organisation, the scope of our activities is facing financial constraints like every other government agency in the present recession.’’ on Wednesday.

Professor who predicted Trump win, says he will be impeached

The man dubbed “Prediction Professor” for accurately calling every presidential election since 1984, including the 2016 election, now forecasts the impeachment of President-elect Donald Trump.
“There’s a very good chance that Donald Trump could face impeachment,” Allan Lichtman told Erin Burnett on “Erin Burnett OutFront.”
Lichtman, a political historian who teaches at the American University in Washington, says he uses his own system of 13 true of false statements to judge whether the incumbent party will retain the White House. However, when it came to his bold prediction of a Trump impeachment, he told Burnett it’s based on his instinct.“First of all, throughout his life he has played fast and loose with the law,” Lichtman said. “He has run an illegal charity in New York state. He has made an illegal campaign contribution through that charity. He has used the charity to settle personal business debts. He faces a RICO lawsuit.”
Burnett pushed back at Lichtman’s claim, noting his allegations have not been proven in a court of law and went on to ask why he thought Trump could be impeached when Republicans hold both the House and Senate, reports CNN.
“The Republicans are nervous about Donald Trump,” Lichtman said. “He is a loose canon. Nobody knows what he really believes or really where he stands. He can’t be controlled. The Republicans would vastly prefer to have Mike Pence, an absolutely predictable down-the-pipe conservative Republican.”

22,430 cultists surrender in Rivers State

The Rivers State Government on Tuesday concluded the first phase of the state Amnesty Programme as 22,430 cultists accepted amnesty in the state.
The government also disbanded all vigilante committees in the state with directives to the security agencies to take charge of scrutinising such committees.
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State announced this during the submission of the report of the Rivers State Amnesty Programme by its committee in Port Harcourt.
He described the Amnesty Programme as very successful since about 22, 430 cultists accepted the amnesty.
Wike also said that for the fact that 911 assorted arms, 7661 assorted ammunitions and 147 explosives were surrendered made the programme a success and the state relatively peaceful.
He, however, said that his administration had zero tolerance to crime and criminality.
Wike said: “To show that Government is serious, I hereby disband all vigilante committees in the various communities.
“I direct the security agencies to make sure that we don’t have such committees except they profile their members to prove that they don’t belong to any cult group.
“Initially, people felt it was a political game. I thank God Almighty that we have proved our critics wrong that we are serious to ensure the security of lives and property in the state.”
Wike explained that the state government did not monetise the amnesty programme as it preferred the cultists and kidnappers to sincerely embrace the programme.
He assured all the repentant cultists and kidnappers that they would be duly rehabilitated and made to become useful to the society.
He said: “But if by tomorrow, you return to crime, know that amnesty does not cover you.”
The governor also directed security agencies to go after all cultists and kidnappers who refused to voluntarily accept the amnesty offer.
Wike said that the time for amnesty “is over and we are going to take the war to them”.
He said: “Since we have given you the opportunity and you have refused to surrender, you have become enemies of the state.
“The state will fight to the last to make sure that criminality is reduced to the barest minimum so that investors will continue to have confidence to invest their funds in the state.”
Wike cautioned the politicians not politicise crime, adding that anybody that was involved in crime should not be reduced to party politics.
According to him, when somebody is a cultist, don’t say that that person belongs to party A, that is not fair.
Wike also stated: “We have to fight crime; we have to join hands to bring lasting peace to this state.”
He then called on the Federal Government to support the state with adequate security as it is the treasure base of the nation.
He said: “If there is crisis in Rivers State, it will affect Nigeria and so for us as a government, we will continue to partner with Federal Government to achieve zero tolerance to crime.
“We will not support crime. It doesn’t matter the political divide. If you are involved, you will face the law.”
Kenneth Chinda, the Chairman of the Amnesty committee, who is also the Special Adviser to the Governor on Amnesty, presented the report of the committee to the governor.
Chinda said the committee was successful as it adopted a direct dialogue approach by establishing direct, honest, transparent and sincere contacts with the leaderships of the various groups through a discreet confidence building process.
The committee urged the government to disband all armed community vigilance groups as well as direct all communities to surrender their weapons to the relevant security agencies.
The membership of the State Amnesty Committee was drawn from the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Navy , the Nigerian Police and the Department of State Services.

US senator pushes to abolish electoral college after Trump win

Barbara Boxer
A California senator introduced legislation Tuesday to rid the United States of its electoral college, the system that allowed Donald Trump to win the presidency despite Hillary Clinton’s lead of nearly one million votes.
The measure comes amid calls for reform following last Tuesday’s presidential upset, but is a long-shot.
“This is the only office in the land where you can get more votes and still lose the presidency,” said Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer, who introduced the measure.
The US Constitution specifies that the electoral college ultimately decides the presidential election, not the popular vote.
Each US state is given a number of electors, which corresponds to the size of the state’s population.
In 48 of 50 states, rules require all of a state’s electors to cast their votes for whichever candidate wins the popular vote there, in a winner-take-all system.
Under these rules, the winner of the electoral college vote does not always correspond to the candidate who won the country’s popular vote.
“The electoral college is an outdated, undemocratic system that does not reflect our modern society, and it needs to change immediately. Every American should be guaranteed that their vote counts,” Boxer said.
Although Clinton received nearly 800,000 more votes than Trump, according to the latest partial results, she lost in the electoral college. The electoral vote is at 290 for Trump and 232 for Clinton, although one state has yet to be called. No matter its turnout, they do not have enough electors to bring Clinton a win.
More than 4.3 million people have signed a petition on the change.org website asking the college’s 538 electors to elect Clinton on December 19, when their votes will be officially counted.
But because 26 states legally mandate that electors vote according to the rules and it is almost unprecedented for the remaining states’ electors to disobey, there is little possibility of a Clinton presidency.
Clinton’s popular vote performance brings to mind the 2000 election, when Democrat Al Gore lost the White House despite taking 48.4 percent of the popular vote to George W. Bush’s 47.9 percent.
Hundreds of Constitutional amendments have been proposed over the decades concerning the electoral college, but none has succeeded.
Amending the Constitution requires the agreement of two-thirds of Congress and ratification by three-quarters of the states.
Trump himself had strongly criticized the electoral college in 2012 calling it a “disaster.” On Tuesday, however, he changed his tune.
“The Electoral College is actually genius in that it brings all states, including the smaller ones, into play. Campaigning is much different!” Trump tweeted.

Assassination Attempt on Faleke wicked and senseless- Hon. Duro Meseko

The Audu/Faleke Political Organisation has condemned the recent assassination attempt on the leader of the group and former Deputy Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress(APC ), Hon James Faleke along Lokoja-Abuja highway.
In a statement issued by the Director, Media and Publicity of the group, Duro Meseko, the group expressed shock at the development which they described as wicked and senseless.
"The news of the assassination attempt on our leader, Hon James Faleke came to us as a big shock. How could any sane mind contemplate such evil on an innocent soul who though shamelessly robbed of his Governorship mandate has remained humble, calm, peaceful, and law abiding. His supporters have also followed same path of peace without a single incident of protest after the infamous Supreme Court judgement . What else could those wicked masterminds want?".
"Perhaps stunned by the mammoth and unprecedented  crowd that welcomed Hon Faleke home recently, his political foes had resorted to this dastardly plan to assassinate him. We thank the almighty God for sparing his life", the statement declared.
The group wondered why" some desperate and wicked people would want to cause more pain and misery to an already pained citizenry who aside having lost the creme of its political class to both natural and unnatural causes like Barrister James Okoli, Prince Abubakar Audu, Senator Ohize and even Senator Ohiare who narrowly escaped death recently, are also undergoing the most unprecedented socio-economic crisis ever."
The statement  called on the security agencies to ensure  that they are on top of their duties to protect lives and property of the people. It also called on the Inspector General of  Police and the other relevant security agencies to as a matter of urgency begin investigations into the assassination attempt.
Hon Faleke was last Sunday, November 6, 2016 attacked by some unknown gunmen under the overhead bridge at the entrance to  Gwagwalada near Abuja around 7pm. His SUV was shot at severally at point blank range shattering the windscreen of the vehicle but could not penetrate deeper due the bulletproof status of the vehicle.

Hon. Faleke Narrowly Escaped Assasination Attempt

House of Representatives member James Faleke escaped death after the SUV conveying him from Lokoja, the Kogi state capital, to Abuja, was shot at by unknown gunmen, Faleke disclosed this himself in a report he lodged at the Gwagwalada Police Division on the outskirt of the Federal Capital City (FCT).According to the report, the lawmaker was attacked between 7pm and 7.30pm on Sunday, November 6. He said bullets hit the front windshield of his bullet-proof vehicle thrice near the first bridge at Gwagwalada.Faleke said: “I was returning from Kogi state on November 6 and my vehicle was shot at the first bridge in Gwagwalada, which is under construction between 7pm and 7.30pm. “About three bullets hit my jeep, but thank God, it was a bulletproof car. The bullets cracked the windscreen but did not penetrate. I’m grateful to God for the life of my driver, orderly and myself. We reported the incident to the Police Division in Gwagwalada, FCT.” Faleke was the running mate to the Kogi state All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the November 21, 2015 election, the late Prince Abubakar Audu. He was set to become deputy governor of Kogi before Audu, who was about to be declared winner of the poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) passed away.Hence, the commission declared the election inconclusive and ordered a supplementary election on December 5.But Faleke challenged INEC’s decision and the nomination of another candidate, Governor Yahaya Bello, by the APC as Audu’s replacement at the rerun. Faleke’s appeal ended at the Supreme Court, which ruled that the party was in order to field another candidate for the supplementary election.

Kogi State Gov. Bello likely incapacitated by a dreadful eye ailment called Glaucoma

Unconfirmed Report reaching THE LEAKAGES revealed that the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello may have been incapacitated with a dreadful eye diseases known as Glaucoma.
Glaucoma is an eye diseases which result in the damage of the optic nerve and total blindness. The disease which can develop slowly over time with no noticeable pain(Open-angle glaucoma) or develop gradually or suddenly with severe pain, blurred vision and eye redness (Closed-angle glaucoma) can lead to an irreversible vision loss. Vision loss from Glaucoma, once it has occurred, is permanent.

The latest development of the Governor sudden trip to Germany for surgery may likely suggest the deteriorated condition of the eye as surgery remain the primary therapy for the disease. Generally, it has also be proven that surgeries are a temporary solution, as there is not yet a cure for glaucoma disease.
The deteriorating state of the Governor's  eye condition also explain why the Governor is seen all the time wearing sun shades in his office, public functions and even when inside a tinted government vehicles.

Meanwhile a statement released earlier by the DG, media and Publicity, Kingsley Fanwo, disclosed that the Governor will return to the state on the 12th Nov, 2016.

APC CRISIS: ASIWAJU TINUBU BOYCOTT PEACE MEETINGS, TRAVELED ABROAD.

The crisis in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is taking a turn for the worse. It was learnt that a meeting scheduled for last week Tuesday to resolve the controversy trailing the September 3 governorship primaries in Ondo State won by the former President, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, did not hold.
A source from the party said he was not aware of any meeting scheduled for last Tuesday, but confirmed the one scheduled for today at the instance of the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.
We learnt that the National Leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu, who is considered central to the issues, tactically evaded the last Tuesday meeting on the excuse of going abroad for a medical treatment.Tinubu has been having a running battle with Odigie-Oyegun over the Ondo primaries and had openly called for his removal in a published statement.
Akeredolu, who allegedly got the blessings of some APC leaders led by Odigie-Oyegun and some ministers, won the primaries against Mr. Segun Abraham, the alleged preferred candidate of Tinubu. The situation resulted in the defection of Mr. Olusola Oke, one of the APC governorship aspirants, to the Alliance for Democracy (AD) to pursue his ambition.
As the crisis deepens, there is a rumour that the Abuja caucus is supporting Akeredolu while Tinubu, the Lagos chapter and some stakeholders in the South West zone are backing Oke, a development some people have described as anti-party activity perpetrated by the national leader.
It was learnt that whether the reconciliation meeting was to have been held last week or will hold today, Tinubu is not favourably disposed to attending any meeting with Odigie-Oyegun.
An influential party leader in the South West said: “I am not aware of the last Tuesday meeting but I knew that the national chairman called for a meeting for November 8 and the invitation was extended to some leaders including Chief Bisi Akande and Tinubu. What the agenda is, I don’t know but obviously the national leader is currently in Chicago and may definitely not attend the meeting.”
After sought the opinions of some South West APC leaders on the issue, many of them said the crisis was beyond what they would want to get themselves involved in.
One of those approached, however, said : “Did you want me to tell you that some people are involved in anti-party activity when I don’t have any proof? There is a crisis, yes, but it has to do with the leadership of the party. They will resolve it.”
When also asked if Tinubu would return from his medical trip before the election, he retorted, “I am neither Tinubu nor Odigie-Oyegun. You can direct your question to them. I don’t want to get involved.”
Yet another South West member of the party said: “I am not from Lagos or Ondo. It is true I am close to the national leader but that doesn’t mean anything because I belong to the Oyo chapter of APC.”
The Guardian learnt that Tinubu deliberately travelled abroad to avoid going to Ondo to campaign for Akeredolu. “For instance, it would look abnormal if President Muhammadu Buhari goes to Ondo to campaign for Akeredolu and Tinubu fails to follow him. The best bet for him is to stay out of the country until the Ondo election is conducted.”
It was also alleged that some leaders of the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere are sympathetic to Tinubu over his plight in the APC and by so doing have decided to give their blessings to Oke, whom the national leader is allegedly supporting.
But the National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Mr. Yinka Odumakin dismissed the insinuation, saying he was not aware of such sympathy.“I don’t have any interest in the Ondo governorship election outside the fact that the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede was shortchanged and his mandate transferred to Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim under questionable circumstances.”
“That development speaks volume about the kind of shenanigans Nigerians should anticipate in the conduct of the election. I doubt if there is going to be a level playing field for all the candidates to test their popularity before the electorate.”
Odumakin who said he spoke for himself, further denied having any sympathy for the APC. “I don’t belong to their party and Afenifere is not into partisan politics,” he said.

CONFUSION IN KOGI AS GOV. BELLO UNDERGOES EYE SURGERY IN GERMANY

The LEAKAGES learnt that contrary to the claims by the Kogi State Government that Governor Bello is healthy, investigations, on Monday, revealed that he had been admitted into a hospital in Germany for eye surgery.
The LEAKAGES learnt that the governor was in Dubai en route Germany for the operation, which is expected to correct an eye ailment that had been troubling him for awhile.
The LEAKAGES also learnt that Bello and his aides have been lavishing and blowing the state resources on hotel accommodation and other frivolities in Dubai en route Germany for the operation. The Governor and his favorite aides were said to lodged in Burj Khalifa Hotel, a world leading hotel with unrivaled opulence in Dubai which cost about $5200 a night, thats about 2.4million Naira a night. With the Governor extravagant lifestyle, it was confirmed that government still have backlog of 12months workers salaries and pension yet to be attended to.
The nature of the problems could not be ascertained on Monday, but a senior official in the state confirmed to one of our correspondents on condition of anonymity that Bello travelled with some close aides and officials for the surgery.
It was gathered that the state Commissioner for Works, Land and Housing, Abdulmumini Sadiq, who earlier travelled with Bello, returned to Lokoja, the state capital, a few days ago to run some errands for the governor.
The source added, “The governor is not missing as being speculated. The fact is that he has eye
problem and he decided to travel to Germany for medical treatment.
“He actually travelled with some close aides, including about two or three commissioners. He is expected back in the state within two weeks, after he might have recovered from the effects of the surgery”
It was learnt that the governor, however, could not wait for a formal handing over to his deputy, Simon Achuba.
The governor, it was further gathered, did not also officially notify the state House of Assembly of his foreign trip, contrary to laid down regulations but a letter which was later packaged by one of his aide yesterday was transmitted to the house of assembly after his obvious absence started causing an uproar in the state.
On Monday, activities in the state had been grounded to a halt following the absence of Bello and some key cabinet members..
At the moment there is nothing really going on in the state as there is no provision of money for the implementation of the budget. This is due to the fact that Kogi State is very broke,” a source stated.
The absence of the governor has generated anxiety in the state, leading to rumours that Bello was down with a deadly ailment and possibly might have resulted into his untimely death.
The governor’s spokesman, Kingsley Fanwo, had, in a statement on Sunday, denied that the governor was nursing any ailment, stressing that Bello was hale and hearty.
Fanwo, however, urged the public to discountenance “the rumour,” describing it as lacking any iota of truth.
“I want to state clearly here for the avoidance of doubt that the rumour lacks any iota of truth. It is a reflection of the depth the enemies of Kogi State have gone in their desperate angst against fate,” he had stated.

I offered gift to the Judge not bribe-APC Legal Adviser

The National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress, Muiz Banire, has denied media reports claiming he had been quizzed by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for transferring N500,000 into a judge’s bank account.
In a statement he issued on Sunday, Mr. Banire said he was neither arrested nor invited by the EFCC. He said he voluntarily visited the Commission to assist in their investigation of the matter.
“I did not give any bribe of the sum of N500,000 or any amount to any judge at any time whatsoever,” said Mr. Banire, a former commissioner in Lagos State.
“The person to whom I gave a gift of N500,000 in 2013 was a former colleague in the academia, a fellow lawyer whom I now understand to be a judge with whom I had lost physical contact for more than 17 years until probably three years ago when he solicited for my financial assistance towards his mother’s burial.”
Media reports over the past few days had placed Mr. Banire, a former lecturer at the University of Lagos, among those involved in bribing of judges.
Following the arrest of some judges last month by operatives of the State Security Service, the EFCC had launched a massive investigation into allegations of bribery of judges by some senior lawyers.
Mr. Banire, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, allegedly transferred N500, 000 into the bank account of James Agbadu-Fishim, a judge at the National Industrial Court.

Mr. Agbadu-Fishim was among the judges who reported to the Lagos office of the EFCC on October 19 to write statements on the findings.Reports said Mr. Banire was questioned for over six hours and his international passport seized by the anti-graft agency.
On Sunday, the senior lawyer said he had never appeared before Mr. Agbadu-Fishim either as a lawyer or a litigant, adding that he only ran into him on November 3 at the EFCC premises.
He was, however, silent on whether his travel documents were actually seized by the Commission.
“I have never taken any benefit from the said recipient of my generosity and have never expected any in return,” Mr. Banire said.
“The occasion of the gift was purely customary for the purpose of assisting in the burial of his deceased mother.
“I must say this kind of assistance is not peculiar to this old colleague but that which is the nature of my usual disposition to all, colleagues, associations, students, clubs, religious bodies and humanity in general.
“I am a strong advocate of anti-corruption campaign and will never descend into the insanity of offering bribe to pervert the course of justice.”

APC will ‘die’ if Buhari fails to address party’s crisis – Timi Frank

The deputy national publicity secretary of the governing All Progressives Congress, APC, Timi Frank, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint the National Chairman of the party, John Odigie-Oyegun, an ambassador.
Mr. Frank said such appointment would stop the chairman from “destroying” the party.
The APC chieftain also said the APC will simply “die” if Mr. Buhari continues to remain silent over the crisis rocking the party.
He urged the president not to overlook the recent call by a national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, that Mr. Odigie-Oyegun should resign from office.
Mr. Frank stated this at a press conference on Sunday in Abuja.
“And if the President wants to appreciate the support of Oyegun, the president has so many ways to compensate him. I will appeal to the President if it is possible, to appoint Oyegun as an ambassador, as a former career civil servant, he will do better as an ambassador not as national chairman.
“This is a personal appeal from me to you Mr. President. It is time for you to intervene in the crisis rocking this party,” he said.
Mr. Frank also described his recent suspension by the South South zone of the party as a “joke”.
“It is not possible to suspend me because the zonal level lacks the mandate,” he said.
Mr. Frank said as a national official, only the National executive Committee, NEC, can suspend him from the party.
“I also want to make it very clear to you that I still remain in charge as the acting publicity secretary of the APC,” he said.
Mr. Frank also said any attack on him by the leadership of the APC is an attack on all Nigerian youth. He said the APC stands to risk a lot if it goes ahead with its threat to suspend or expel him from its fold.
“APC should learn from the ANC of South Africa on its action on Julius Malema. The party has not remain the same since he was suspended,” he said.
Mr. Frank said he is not just “fighting” for himself but all the young persons in Nigeria
