Kogi State Highest Indebted with 15months unpaid salaries-Sen. Dino Melaye

Senator Dino Melaye has described the non payment of salaries and allowances to workers in about 12states of the federation as evil and a very sad situation with the Kogi state as most excruciating and unfortunate.

He said Kogi State came first in the non payment of Salaries and allowances.

Senator Dino Melaye while addressing the Senate President and members of the Senate at the plenary said Kogi workers has not received salaries for 15months.

All the higher institutions in Kogi State has been under lock and key for 4months over non payment of salaries and allowances.

Kogi State University is under lock and key, Kogi State Polytechnic is under lock and key and Colleges of Education is under lock and key for non payment of salaries and allowances despite the release of bailout fund 1, bailout fund 2 and Paris club refund.

The Senator urged the red chamber as the the true representative of the people to speak on the behalf of the workers using the oversight responsibility and constitutional powers of the chamber by directing the Ministry of Finance not to release the second phase of the Paris club refund to Kogi State and other state still owing workers salaries and allowances.

He reiterated that if Kogi State Governor and others State Governors got bailout fund 1&2 and Paris club refund and did still not pay salaries, if they get the second phase of the Paris refund they will still not pay salaries.

He said the Governors has to be compelled to become responsible and responsive to the magnanimity shown by the Mr. President for releasing the funds.

He said the President had openly said the funds are to pay workers salaries and allowances but the opposite has been the case in Kogi and some other states.

Workers are dying because they can not afford five thousand medical bills in Kogi State.
Kogi State Students have been out of school for months over non payment of salaries.

Finally the Sen. Dino Melaye said the red chamber must stand for Nigerian workers especially Kogi workers who dying of hunger every day.
