Kogi Speaker to stop ongoing investigation of alleged misappropriation of second tranche of paris club refund

The Kogi State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon. Kolawole Matthew is to discontinue the ongoing investigation of how the second tranche of Paris Club refund of N6b meant to pay workers salaries and pensioners was spent in Kogi State.

Our source revealed that the agreement compelling the Speaker to ensure at all cost that the house never  dabble into how state resources is being spent came early enough as a pre-condition for installing him as the new speaker.
The new speaker was said to have quickly oblige and signed the agreement.

The House of Assembly Speaker is therefore expected never to entertain any motion calling for the continuation of investigation into the misappropriation of N6b paris club refund or any resolution of the house to summoned any concerned government officials such as the Commissioner for Finance, State Accountant General and the Head of Service to appear before the hallowed chamber to give account of spending of the second tranche of the Paris Club refund and to as well give a comprehensive account of numbers of cleared, uncleared, paid and unpaid civil servants and pensioners in the state.

The Speaker is totally under the control and influence of the Governor and will always play to the gallery or get removed, a major stakeholder, Mr. Godwin Jimoh posited.

Recalled that crisis started rocking the house when the house under the leadership of the former speaker Hon. Imam Umar called on the State Accountant General, Commissioner for Finance and Head of Service to appear before the house to give account of how the second tranche of paris club refund which was recently accessed by the state was spent.

Aftermath hoodlums invasion of the house, Hon. Kolawole Mathew was sworn in as the new speaker after the former speaker was forced to resign out of office for calling for investigation into the N6b fund.

Sen. Smart Adeyemi who waged in during the crisis doused the tension and peacefully ensure the Speaker resigned.

The state government despite accessing the first and second tranche of Paris refund and bailout fund still owed workers and pensioners over fifteen months salaries and arrears.

Strange Disease kills 50 in Kogi

A strange disease, whose symptoms include diarrhoea, bloodstained vomiting and high fever has killed 50 people at Okunran, Okoloke and Isanlu-Esa villages in Yagba West Local Government of Kogi.
Initial reports had suspected Lassa Fever, but medics told Saka Audu, Commissioner for Health, who visited the affected areas on Thursday, that it was a strange disease that was unknown.
“We initially suspected Lassa Fever after getting some misleading reports about people bleeding around, so we made a diagnosis for viral haemorrhagic fever (lassa fever), but the result was negative,” Jannette Hathorn, a Consultant at ECWA Hospital, Egbe told Mr. Audu.
She said that the first case was that of a child of two and half years, who died 12 hours after he was brought to the hospital.
“We are sure it is not Lassa fever; but our concern is that we do not know exactly what is happening. We have not arrived at a definitive diagnosis.
“Two adult patients were also brought here; one showed symptoms of ulcer-viral illness, but there was no bleeding component of any haemorrhagic symptom.
“We isolated them and both of them were treated for malaria. When they started improving, we let them go.
“Another parent brought a child to the hospital and pleaded for help. He said that 50 people had died in their village with similar symptoms of bloodstained vomiting, diarrhoea and fever.
“When the child died, we called the World Health Organisation (WHO). Yesterday (Wednesday), their officials came and took samples of everything; we must know exactly what we are dealing with,” she said.
Mr. Audu, who described the situation as “serious”, said that the visit was to assess the it “especially since many lives have been lost to the disease”.
“We want to determine the cause of these mysterious deaths and then proffer solution to it.
“Government is committed to assisting the people irrespective of how remote their settlements may be. We must ensure that we take healthcare to the door steps of rural dwellers.
“We want to reassure the people that government is with them and will take full responsibility of those who are already ill, so as to arrest the spread of this disease.
“For now, what is clear and confirmed is that it is not Lassa fever; but whatever it is, we will carry out further investigation and come up with definitive diagnosis,” Audu said.
He said that the information about the outbreak of the strange disease came to government last week and a technical team was immediately sent to take samples which were sent to General Hospital Irrua, Edo State, for definitive investigation.
“We are digging into the real cause of this ailment. All hands are on deck toward unravelling the definitive cause of the mysterious deaths among the kids,” the commissioner assured.
According to him, the Fulani settlers have been reported to be the worst hit by the disease which broke out three weeks ago.
Ardo Damina Ibrahim, leader of the Fulani settlement, told journalists that the first case was reported three weeks ago, adding that children were worst hit.
“We at first used herbs to treat the patients but had to rush to the hospital after recording several deaths,” he said.
He explained that parents became more confused when doctors could not ascertain the cause of the illness, saying that many died in the hospital while others were discharged without any cure.
“We have lost more than 50 people and still have many helpless patients at home,’’ he said.
Joshua Ogunyanda, the traditional ruler of the community, who thanked the commissioner for visiting the area in spite of the difficult terrain, said that he ran to the Yagba Local Government when the disease broke out.
“We are confident that the disease will soon be brought under control with the commitment that you have shown,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the commissioner later gave N50,000 to the leader of the Fulani community to transport the sick patients to Lokoja for proper treatment.

2019: OKUN LEADERS SHOPS FOR DINO MALAYE'S REPLACEMENT, CALLS TEEJAY YUSUF TO CONTEST FOR SENATE SEAT

A GROUP under the umbrella body of OKUN LEADER'S FORUM (OLF) has called on the Honorable member representing kabba/Bunu-Ijumu federal constituency, Honorable Tajudeen Yusuf to contest for the seat of senate, kogi west senatorial district in the forthcoming 2019 general elections. The group made the call at a meeting they organised to declare support for Teejay Yusuf in Isanlu  of YAGBA East local gocernment at the weekend noted that the call has become imperative considering the development strides of the honorable member in his constituency since his assumption of office in 2011.

President of the group, Dr. Omolade Ojo pleaded with Honorable Teejay not to disappoint the Okun leaders by answering their call without delay. He pointed out that the call was an award the group has for him, insisting that there could be no better reward for the meritorious achievements recorded by the honorable than according him an overwhelming support to represent the kogi west district in the National Assembly. “With the good works of Teejay Yusuf in Kabba/Bunu-Ijumu Federal constituency, it will be totally out of place if he is not appreciated with the senate position come 2019” Omolade solicited for the cooperation of people of the kogi west senatorial zone towards the realisation of the senatorial dream the Okun leaders were championing for Teejay Yusuf.

Earlier, patron of the group, Chief Arowosafe Jemigbon, had appreciated the step taken by the group to pave way for Teejay Yusuf to continue with the good work done in the House of Representatives at the Senate level.

According to Arowosafe, kogi west people could not afford to continue with the leadership style of senator Dino Melaye, who, he said, has turned legislative business to “show of assets” and urged the political stakeholders of the zone to “kick-start the process of wooing Honorable Teejay Yusuf to replace him in 2019. Teejay Yusuf would defeat Melaye come 2019 and it won't be a surprise to us because he has done that in the 2011 House of representatives Melaye's 2nd time bid of where Teejay Yusuf defeated him at both PDP primary and general election when he (Dino) decamped from PDP to ANPP. ”

Describing Dino's two years so far as “a total failure and poor representation to the good people of kogi west. As it stands today in kogi west, it has become the more you look, nothing you see. There is no important project going on in our dear district, yet some people go around making questionable endorsements.

A GOODWILL ADDRESS ON SECURITY: KEY TO YOUTH EMPOWERMENT BY HONOURABLE M.D. ESEYIN SPECIAL ADVISER TO THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF KOGI STATE, ALHAJI YAHAYA BELLO ON YOUTH EMPOWERMENT, SPORTS AND STUDENTS AFFAIRS.

August 08, 2017

While I seek your indulgence to stand by the existing protocols, I am highly delighted to be here as a special guest of honour in this all important programme. I seize this opportunity to express special appreciation and gratitude to His Excellency Alh. Yahaya Bello the 4th Executive Governor of Kogi State who has deemed it necessary for this program to see the light of the day.

This timely program titled “SECURITY BEING THE KEY TO YOUTH EMPOWERMENT” is a necessary weapon to hold on to. Kogi State today is governed by a man who holds firm the importance of security and qualitative empowerment programs to heart. It is however, pertinent for this program to unveil to all and sundry but particularly the youth the importance of youth empowerment as a pivotal mechanism in dealing with insecurity in the state.

Youths are the machinery by which the foundation in respect to security can be firmly built on in any human society. Empowering the youths in qualitative program enables them to become conscious of the dangers inherent in insecurity of lives and properties. Hence, when youths are well empowered, we can be certain that security of the state becomes enhanced and undistorted. This is because youths who are positively engaged via productive empowerment will invariably have no time to engage themselves in deviant criminal behaviours frowned at by the state.

It is on this note that I implore Individuals, Corporate Bodies and Non-Governmental Organizations not to see youth empowerment as the sole responsibility of the government. This is because empowerment fused together by these entities will definitely create huge awareness for youths in the society to become highly engaged productively. This engagement will therefore deter the youths from seeing pleasures in any act that threatens the security of the state.

I want to use this opportunity to admonish members of the society on the inherent importance woven around security of the state as youth empowerment plays important roles in the fight against insecurity which threatens the development of the state. Like I would always say, a person who is successfully empowered is bound to be a catalyst to many successful persons who of course will spring from the chain of his well empowered program.

The youth must reciprocate the gesture of government by keying into this program by being volunteer agents who will be constantly on the lookout for individuals and group of persons whose activities have the potential to foist insecurity and make this information available to appropriate security agencies. If the laudable improved security situation in the state is sustained, more investors will come to the state and this will translate to more employment opportunities for the youth. Security is the business of everyone and the quest to ensure Kogi State remain safe is achievable with the success of this bold and commendable initiative.

The security of our state can only be threatened when we fail to engage our youths in areas that will yield developmental transformation to the state. A deviation from the vitality of youth empowerment is tantamount to engendering insecurity in the state as the state will be filled up with idle youths which of course justifies the axiom that an idle mind is the devil’s workshop.

I will end my note leaving us with questions which I expect the answers to ring in our head now and even after this program.

If youth empowerment is truly a key to fight insecurity in the state and security is everyone's business. Who then should be responsible for empowering the youths of our dear state?

Thank you all and God bless you.

RE: Why I Will Not Congratulate The New Kogi Speaker- Family Member.

The title (Why I Will Not Congratulate The New Kogi Speaker- Family Member)  of the malicious write-up is a contradiction of itself.

If not because we need to set the record straight, we would have not bothered ourselves to response to a careless and self seeking write-up to malign and discredit the person and office of the Distinguished Honourable Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Prince Mathew Kolawole.
Who is Gbenga Baiyetemisi where we have many prominent personalities across the globe who have gone through many medium to congratulate and rejoice with Rt. Honourable Prince Mathew Kolawole over his emergence as the 12th Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly.

The mammoth crowd  that came out to welcome the Speaker during his historic visit to the palace of the Obadofin of Oweland, where he received a royal blessing from the Kabba/Bunu Traditional Council led by His Royal Majesty Oba Adebayo Ikusemoro, the Olubunu of Bunu land and the Acting Chairman of Okun Area Traditional Council is a clear testimony of his warm acceptance, not only to his family members but the entire constituents.

What else do we want again for someone who is not known but only want to seek cheap popularity using the emergence of the first Speaker from Kabba/Bunu Constituency since the creation of the state to create space for himself.

We hope the Gbenga Baiyetemisi can uncover his identify for us to know who is really behind the said write-ups as we were made to understand that the suspected person has denied his involvement in the said write-ups.

We hereby wish to called the attention of the general public to disregard the malicious write-ups that is baseless.

WHY I WILL NOT CONGRATULATE THE NEW KOGI SPEAKER-FAMILY MEMBER.

As the executive recklessness in Kogi State remain unchecked, the fear of oppressor's hands gaining more strength remain inevitable.
While others especially people from my home town (Kabba) sees Prince Kolawole speakership as a blessing, it appears more like a curse as it was orchestrated to suppress the voices calling on Kogi State government to make open the handling of civil servants salaries and welfares.

The white lion in Lugard house as popularly called by his worshipers would do everything possible to remove from office anybody that dare mention the need for the dying civil servants to be paid their entitlements.
I can't deny the fact that there were cold wars between the governor and the like of SDM and Imam the ousted speaker, but what triggers the move from the executive to get them out of office was the singular fact that they dare "the no go area" (civil servants welfare)

When I was contacted to  congratulate the new speaker by a family member, I said I will never celebrate such dark day in Kogi State. Kola emergence symbolises triumphant of executive recklessness. Invading the hallowed chamber with thugs to elude making public the true state of the endless staff verification exercise deserve not my celebration.
How will I celebrate the fall of the ex speaker who dare allowed the motion calling on the executhieves to be sincere, responsible and accountable in dealing with Civil Servant because his successor is from my village and my clan? Am proud of my people, but what I will not celebrate is the triumphant of tyranny, extremism, anarchy and oppression of vulnerable Kogites.

Let me draw our attention to the fact that Kola will continue to play to the gallery and dictates of the executhieves for the next six months or more  irrespective of their excesses if he must remain in their good book. The question is who is to tame the White Lion that is voraciously devouring the state resources and dancing on the graves of people who lost their lives as a result of this endless suffering?

Let me not dwell much on what Kola's speakership means to the civil servants and digress to why I refuse to celebrate my blood brother emergence as the speaker. I remember how you (Mr. Speaker) raised my hope in Riverton hotel Lokoja last week that our family should be expecting good news any moment from now,  yes here are we with the good news that mean nothing but bad omen to the civil servants and Kogi as a whole.
Even while I don't want to be seen as the black sheep of the family, notwithstanding the level of hunger at home informed my sympathy and patriotism. I know Kola too well from childhood and I equally know he lack the will or courage to face challenges that will jeopardize his personal interest.
While I rest my fingers and halt my participation on political reggae in Kogi State,  I must commend the ex speaker for standing for the truth even when it means exiting the speakership seat.

Gbenga Baiyetemisi writes from Lokoja.

Breaking: Kogi Lawmakers To Get N5M Each to Impeach Speaker, Hon. Imam Imam.

Information reaching THE LEAKAGES confirmed that this morning the Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has released N5M each for members of the House of Assembly to get the Speaker Hon. Imam Imam impeached.

The Majority Leader Hon. Kolawole Mathew is said to be in charge of mobilizing and sharing of the money to members who are ready to sign the impeachment and has equally been penciled down by the Governor  to replace the embattled speaker immediately after his impeachment.
Our source also revealed that Five(5) members of the twenty-five(25) members of the house have already signed the impeachment while other members are rallying round to stop the impeachment using every legal means.

Recalled that crisis started yesterday during the plenary session of the house when thugs led by the Governor ADC and the Commissioner of Police invaded the Assembly complex to unleash mayhem on members who are opposed to the manner the Governor has been wasting the state resources.
The House of Assembly had earlier invited the State Accountant General, Commisioner for Finance and the Head of Service to give detailed account of cleared and uncleared list of workers and pensioners in the state and the numbers of those that have been paid so far.

Meanwhile, the Governor was said to have earlier before the plenary yesterday summoned all the members to Government House in order to stop the house from reconvening where members were given N500,000 each not to attend plenary but unfortunately only few members obliged while majority members insisted on going ahead with their legislative duty and headed for the assembly.
As means to further frustrate the Governor, majority of the members wore the same attire with the speaker to the complex as a show of solidarity.

During the Plenary session, hired thugs gained access into the complex with the help of some members and unleash mayhem on some members. Hon. Friday Makama was beaten mercilessly and currently hospitalized, other lawmakers scampers for safety jumping through the fence to escape.
Despite presence of heavily armed policemen led by the Commissioner of Police, Wilson Inalegwu, hired thugs zoom off unstopped in Kogi State Government House car marked KGGH 128 (an ash colour Toyota Camry muscle).

Despite owing workers and pensioners 17months, the governor this morning just released another N5M for each member to remove the speaker and install his stooge as speaker.
With the latest development, all is now set for another showdown in Kogi State.
