Kogi Speaker Donates #500,000.00 for Education in Bunu, as Bunu People Visit


The  Speaker, Kogi House of Assembly Rt.Hon M.O Kolawole yesterday received in audience Bunu People under the auspices of Bunu Development Association.

The leader of the delegation and  National President of Bunu Development Association, Rev. J.E. Jembawondo thanked the Speaker for being a good ambassador of Kabba/Bunu people for making his people proud in the course of his legislative duties. Rev. Jembawondo further expressed the happiness of Bunu people on the series of empowerment programmes instituted by the Speaker which according to him is the first of its kind in the history of Kabba/Bunu Constituency . He thanked the Speaker for appointing Bunu sons as Personal Aides but however requested  the Speaker to provide Bunu sons and daughter with more plum offices. He pleaded with the Speaker to also assist Bunu sons and daughter to secure jobs in every available places.

The National President of  Development Association requested the assistance of the Speaker in the area of provision of  potable water for Bunu communities especially now that the dry season is here. He pleaded with the Speaker to use his good office to bring succour to Bunu people in the area of provision of  health facilities across Bunu land and the staffing and equipping of  the few existing ones. He urged the Speaker to assist in  road construction in Bunu land  especially the much dreaded Giro hill which has been a nightmare to the  Kiri people for ages.


Rev. Jembawondo on a final note pleaded with the Speaker to stand up  to help of Bunu people on the upgrading of the traditional rulers. He hinted that only 5 Obas are currently graded in the whole of 40 towns and  villages across Bunu land.

The delegation  requested the Speaker to prevail on the Governor to reverse his decision on redeploying the State Security Adviser Comdr Jerry Omodara  (Rtd) from his current office.

In his reaction, the Speaker thanked the delegation for finding time to pay him a visit. He maintained that  he felt excessively loved by Bunu people especially as demonstrated through their various roles both  at the primary and general elections. He acknowledged the unequalled roles played by Bunu people in supporting him to victory in 2015.

The Speaker informed the visitors about his efforts at ensuring that  he lobbied his colleagues to ensure the passage of the Iya-Akutupa road in the 2017 budget which accordingly has 400 hundred million allocated for the road. He further hinted that  he would ensure that the road is equally captured in the 2018 Kogi State annual budget.

He listed Oda Ape, Ayede and Appa as communities in Bunu that he has sunk boreholes among other numerous communities that he has provided money for the repairs of the existing boreholes.

He went further to explain that Ike, Akutupa and Ayetoro Kiri have been inaccessible (due to Oke Giro) by rigs which is why the  boreholes in those communities have not been sunk as the geophysics mapping of the communities have been completed and part payment provided for the drilling of the boreholes in those communities.

On health facility, the Speaker informed his guests that he has concluded plans to construct a cottage hospital in Ayede but has yet to be provided with land. He however assured them that before the end of the year, work would commence as soon as he is provided with a suitable site. He gave assurance of his assistance in the areas of staffing and equipping the few health centres in Bunu land.

The Speaker promised to do more in the areas of empowerment and provision of jobs for Bunu people. He informed them that he currently has about 70 people across the  constituency that are on his payroll apart from those students enjoying his scholarship scheme.

On the upgrading of the traditional rulers, the Speaker promised to liase with the appropriate agency to ensure that Bunu Obas benefit whenever the exercise comes up.

Rt.Hon M.O Kolawole appealed to the people to always pray for him and the government of Alh. Yahaya Bello, with the promise to look into their request on the redeployed State Security Adviser.

Highlight of the event was the cash donation of #500,000.00 for Bunu indigent students.
