INEC ILLEGAL POLLING/VOTING UNITS : We will challenge it in court... Omoluabi

As party candidate decry attack on members...

The Kogi West Senatorial Candidate of African Democratic Congress, Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi has said the party will challenge the validity and legallity of the allegedly created polling/voting units by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) for the forthcoming election without informing all parties to file in agents for such units. He stated this during a world press conference held by the Senatorial Candidate of Kogi East and West senatorial districts at the Party's national secretariat in Abuja.

Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi contended that INEC has started underhand dealings that are strange to the spirit and letters of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electoral Acts as ammended which has strong capacity to undermine or compromise the forthcoming general election. He argued that there is need for immediate judicial interpretation on weather INEC can create and apply polling/voting units secretly without notifying the political parties to be involved in the election in order to present agents for such election. He said the impartiality of INEC is under serious threat as the commission concealed the list of these polling units away from all the political parties apart from the APC. He argued that the role of agents in any election is fundamental to the compliance with the electoral acts as ammended

"I can confirm to you that there are plans for INEC to use unannounced and illegal polling units during the coming elections, intelligence has it that the commission decided to officially refused to notify political parties about these units with the aim of giving only the APC opportunity to provide agents in these strange units to be able to manipulate the election in favour of a particular party. This is a threat to a free and fair election and a potential threat to democratic susteinance in Nigeria, we will therefore challenge the applicability of this in court, in the interest of democracy and rule of law" Omoluabi says

In the same vein, the Candidate of the party for Kogi East Senatorial district, Dr Victor Alewo Adoji has called on the international community, security agencies and the entire world to the sustained brutal attacks on his campaign programs and supporters by agents of the All Progressive Congress(APC). He made this call during the press conference and requested relevant agencies to call Kogi state government and APC to order in order not to cause uncontrollable crisis that can threaten the credibility of the election. Dr Adoji mentioned the attack on his supporters at Ejule in Ofu LGA, Ankpa in Ankpa LGA and Dekina in Dekina LGA as wicked and destruction of properties of his supporters as unacceptable. He warned that no amount of attack will stop the resolve of the people to vote for ADC in the coming elections.
