BOLA AHMED TINUBU: THE BEST MAN FOR THE JOB- Green Movement

One interest thing about the 'Asiwaju', is the fact that he is perceived differently by different people.  From being the new 'Awo', a bullish businessman, to a tactical politician. The streams of opinions about his persona continue to burgeon.  What is very clear from the multiplicity of perceptions and opinions about him is that he is an icon and a figure to reckon with in contemporary Nigeria.

Asiwaju Bola Ahamed Tinubu is one unique Nigerian personality  with imposing features, strides, and achievements. A politician, businessman and leader of thought.

He has in the last 16 years risen to become the Generalissimo of Nigerian politics.

Before becoming the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), his role as a strong opposition leader cannot be glossed over.  Rather than joined the ruling party then, the Peoples Democratic Party, as it was the fad among politicians, he stood in the sun and in the rain to build the then Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN ) into a formidable national party.

Using that platform, he fought for good governance and federalism, properly called and applied. Even when as a Governor, his government was starved of fund by the Obasanjo administration due to the creation of L.C.D.A in Lagos state, he was still firm and undaunted.

Before this, along with like-minded patriots, he has put up stiff resistance against the military junta of Gen. Sanni Abacha, risking his life and everything he has worked to achieve up till that stage of his life.

Even though this patriotic fervour earned him exile, together with other patriots of his ilk, the monumental sacrifices birthed this fourth republic.

Indeed, Nigeria's political story  will be incomplete without acknowledging the significant contributions  of Asiwaju Bola Ahamed Tinubu.

He was a key force in the merger of his party, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) with other parties like the CPC (Congress for Progressive Change), a faction of APGA ( All Progressive Grand Alliance) and the ANPP( All Nigerians People's Party) to form the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His strategic political  roadmap of aligning the West with the North was key to the APC's victory in the 2015 general elections.

His sagacity made possible the emergence of General Muhammadu Buhari as the standard bearer of APC at the party's convention in 2015. His loyalty to the President has never be in doubt. He was also intrumental to the choice of Prof. Yemi Osibanjo as APC's Vice Presidential candidate

Nothing is as interesting as achieving one's dream. Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will always relish the fact that his party, the APC, has broken the jinx of sit tight syndrome among political parties in Nigeria by defeating the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after sixteen unbroken years at the helms of affairs that can arguably pass for wasted years.

Tinubu, also referred  to as the 'Jagaban', can be rated as one of the most influential politicians in Africa, in the 21st century.

Looking into the crystal ball, with the multi dimensional challenges plaguing this country, the person most suited to lead us out of the hydra headed challenges confronting the nation, into the land of promise flowing with milk and honey is Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, the Jagaban of Borgu Kingdom.

2023: Plans to pair El-Rufai with Jonathan

Source: SAHARAREPORTERS

There are plans already to pair El-Rufai with Jonathan for 2023. We believe both forces are strong and have goodwill in their regions and are good for the party," one of the sources confirmed to SaharaReporters.

It was learnt that there had been pressure on Jonathan, to defect to the All Progressives Congress and run for president in 2023 on the ruling party's platform.

Some APC chieftains, including governors, had visited Jonathan at his Abuja residence last November on his 63rd birthday.

The APC team's visit was led by the Chairman Caretaker/Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee, who is also the acting national chairman of the party, Governor Mai Mala Buni.

Other members of the delegation include David Umahi, Ebonyi State governor, who recently defected from the PDP to the APC; Atiku Bagudu, Kebbi State governor, who is also the chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum; Abubakar Badaru, Jigawa State governor; Chief Ken Nnamani, a former Senate President; and Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, ex-presidential liaison office to the National Assembly.

The APC leadership visit to Jonathan had generated speculations, which SaharaReporters have confirmed to be more than a friendly visit or a courtesy call on a former president.

It was learnt that the visit was a continuation of the APC scheme to woo Jonathan to the party by a caucus in the party that feels more comfortable to have the ex-President in power than the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu.

Buni had denied that the APC was looking in the direction of Jonathan, saying, "Those peddling such information, they are afraid.

"Even if someone wants to base assumption on our recent visit to him during his birthday, we were there because of his capacity as a former President of Nigeria.

"Again, even if there is nothing when we are talking of peaceful coexistence, we must give credit to former President Jonathan on the issue of peace; how he accepted defeat in 2015 and resigned to fate. That has qualified him to be a statesman, and he is now among our fathers."

On whether the APC would accept Jonathan should he indicate interest, Buni had said, "Even in America where we got this democracy, I've not seen where people are being confined to a limit."

Sources, however, told SaharaReporters that Jonathan had surprised the northern elite and the APC northern cabals by his disposition to the Muhammadu Buhari presidency despite all the dirt and campaign of calumny thrown at him and the PDP before the 2015 presidential election, which gave Buhari an unprecedented victory over an incumbent.

It was learnt that some APC cabal had also been impressed that despite the Buhari government's glaring failure, Jonathan had not openly criticised his successor or his administration, much unlike ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Obasanjo had written open letters condemning the Buhari government and also verbally berated it at any opportunity.

SaharaReporters learnt from sources that the establishment of almajiri schools by Jonathan to reduce a large number of out-of-school children in the North also scored the former president good points in the eyes of the northern cabal in the APC, especially with most of it now rotting away even under a northerner as president.

"They see Jonathan as a safe option given the bias Buhari has also shown. The northern elites are afraid that when power returns to the South, the North may get a dose of how Buhari treated the South in terms of key appointments. The choice of El-Rufai is only natural. He has always been seen as a good northern candidate for the presidency," a source said.

Recall that El-Rufai had thrown his weight behind having Nigeria's next president emerge from the southern part of the country.

In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service last August, El-Rufai said, "The southern part of the country is supposed to produce the president come 2023; I don't support a northerner to vie for the seat after President Muhammadu Buhari, based on Nigeria's political arrangement."

Though El-Rufai described the power shift arrangement among the country's various regions as unconstitutional, he said it was a political design that must be respected.

"I believe that (there is) no developed country across the world that considers leadership based on where someone comes from. However, in Nigerian politics, there is an arrangement that we all believe in rotational leadership. We are aware of that, anyone who denies that is wrong," the governor said.

As the APC mull over the Jonathan-Elrufai ticket, there are concerns on the position of the All Progressives Congress national leader and a former governor of State, Bola Tinubu, who is reportedly eyeing the presidency.

Tinubu was considered Buhari's running mate ahead of the 2015 presidential election before some voices in the party and elder statesmen discouraged the APC from going with a Muslim-Muslim ticket, hence the choice of Prof Yemi Osinbajo, who was singlehandedly picked by the former Lagos State governor.

Tinubu had supported Buhari to win presidential elections in 2015 and 2019, believing that Buhari would return the favour after the expiration of his tenure in office when power would be expected to shift to the South.

SaharaReporters gathered that Jonathan was considered a better option than Tinubu because of the latter's "unpredictability".

A source said, "Even among Yoruba people, Tinubu has enemies. Many people want to reduce his power and influence in the South-West; many do not like him in the North. They cannot predict Tinubu the way they can predict Jonathan. With the presidency, Tinubu will become very powerful and no one can predict what he will do with such powers.

"That is why the strategy being employed by those in support of Tinubu is to first unite people, particularly in the South-West, behind him. They know the challenge before him and understand that it will be much harder to convince other regions to support him without his region solidly behind him.

"As for Jonathan, he has been there before, so it is easy to know the kind of presidency he will produce. Jonathan cannot also spend more than four years in power since he has spent four years already, a fact that is also not lost on those scheming to have him run for the APC."

“Thousands of Lagosian families still reside in the several housing estates he constructed across the state. Thousands of beneficiaries of his free education scheme are accomplished professionals and successful individuals in diverse fields today.”

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, has described the demise of a former governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, as a monumental loss.

The Speaker said he was personally touched by the death of Jakande, whom he described as a man of peace, who lived all his life serving humanity.

He said Jakande, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 91, would be sorely missed by the people, especially Lagosians, and that he would be remembered for his developmental strides in the state.

SAHARA REPORTERS LIED ON IGP’S EXTENSION OF SERVICE

 PRESS RELEASE

The Police High Command has described as untrue, unfounded, defamatory and libellous, the publication by Sahara Reporters, dated February 07, 2021, which alleged that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, NPM, mni paid over 2 Billion Naira for the tenure extension. The Force wishes to state categorically that the extension of service of the IGP was strictly the prerogative of the President and was never paid for as maliciously reported in the publication.

The insinuations also by Sahara Reporters that the IGP did not “celebrate” his extension smacks of ignorance and a pathetic misplacement of priority. The extension does not call for merry-making or celebration but a time for more work, rededication to duty and selfless service to the nation.

The IGP, while assuring the nation of an unwavering commitment by the Force under his leadership, to improved service delivery, safety and security of the citizenry, enjoins members of the public to disregard and discountenance the publication by Sahara Reporters as evidently untrue and unfounded. The IGP is undistracted and the Force remains motivated and committed to delivering on its mandate, especially the task of neutralizing current and emerging internal security threats.

Meanwhile, the IGP has directed his legal team to commence legal actions against the online publishers.

2023 Presidency: I have enormous respect for Tinubu-Governor Wike

The attention of the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has been drawn to false assertions attributed to him in an article written in The Guardian by Emmanuel Ande on February 5, 2021, titled: " Tinubu cannot see presidency gate in 2023, says Wike."

We wish to affirm that it is true that Governor Wike was in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State on February 4, to inspect some projects being executed by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.    And while inspecting the Greater Interchange and Underpass in Yola , some journalists requested for an interview which he graciously obliged them.

The questions asked ranged from the purpose of his visit; the prospects of the Peoples Democratic Party winning the 2023 general election and Nigeria's rating in the global corruption index recently published by Transparency International.

At no time during the interview session that lasted about five minutes did Governor Wike mention the names of Chief Tinubu and the APC's former  national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, or even alluded to them.

We, therefore consider the report by Mr Emmanuel Ande as preposterous, fabricated, malicious and intended to inflame relationship between Governor Wike and Chief Tinubu, whom the Rivers Chief Executive holds in high esteem.

“We wish to state without equivocation, that irrespective of political affiliation, Governor Wike has enormous respect for Chief Tinubu and will never say or do anything to malign the hard earned reputation of the elder statesman. The report  by Mr Ande is mischievous and aimed to discredit The Guardian.

“It is our belief that the reporter is probably acting as hireling of some treacherous political actors, who often capitalise on the susceptibility of some journalists to manipulate them to publish misleading or factually incorrect information for political purposes. We dare the reporter to provide any evidence to prove the veracity of his fabricated report.”
