Faleke-Sponsored Ikeja Games: 600 Athletes Indicate Interest

 

Over 600 athletes have indicated interest in the much anticipated Ikeja Games 2023 sponsored by the Member House of Representatives for Ikeja Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. James Abiodun Faleke.


This was disclosed at a Press conference held on Monday 16th of January at the Faleke Campaign office in Omole.



Ahead of the games billed to start on Tuesday 17th of January, Chairman of the Main Organising Committee, Barrister Bayo Ayo stated that "the Ikeja Games was conceptualised to positively engage youths in productive endeavours by offering them platforms to nuture their God-given talents for a better rewarding future"


Barrister Ayo further emphasized that the Games which will see athletes within the 10 INEC recognised wards of Ikeja Federal Constituency compete in 10 different sports is solely powered by Rt. Hon. Faleke in conjunction with the National Institute of Sports (NIS).




Giving further insight, the Executive Director of the Main Organising Committee, Barrister Olawale Ajala named the available team and individual sports as Football, Basketball, Table Tennis while individual sports as Chess, scrabble, snooker, draft, Ayo-Olopon, Ludo and cards.


The Executive Director clarified that participants for the games were concluded and registered after duly acquiring and completing forms which were publicly advertised.


Giving further breakdown, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Hon. Edward Aragbonfoh noted that with support from the NIS, all sports at the Ikeja Games will be played in accordance to the standard rules and regulations.


The Executive Director of the NIS, Joseph Wuyep while commending Rt. Hon Faleke for the sponsorship of such talent development project, also assured that the Institute will support the Ikeja Games as much as possible.  


Winners at the games will be presented with trophies, certificates and medals, while all participants will be presented with cash stipends as motivation and transportation.


It is the first time such games will be held in Ikeja Federal Constituency.
