JUST IN: I will participate in Kogi Supplementary Poll-Dino Melaye

Senator Dino Melaye has said he would take part in the supplementary election for Kogi West senatorial district slated for November 30. This position is a shift from his party’s (PDP) which hinted at a likely boycott.
The PDP had earlier suggested that it would not be participating in the poll because it lacked confidence in the process, citing alleged cases of abuse during the rerun.
However, in a political show on Channels TV on Sunday night, Senator Melaye said he and his party would be taking part in the process, not because they had faith in it, but because it was necessary for their planned legal challenge.

Melaye trails Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by over 20,000 votes, a huge deficit to bridge if he is to retain his seat in the senate.

When Will Okun Produce A Governor In Kogi State?

Ayo Moses Ogedengbe

Kogi State is a clear sign that Nigeria needs to restructure before it self-destructs. Ethnic rivalry is bad for growth and development.

Unfortunately, that is what Nigeria is about and Kogi State, more than any other state in Nigeria, clearly represents that archaic structural reality that is backed by a weak ethnic tripod.

Just like Nigeria, Kogi has three major ethnic groups that controls the politics of the state ahead of many other ethnic groups. The Igalas are like the Hausa-Fulani, while the Ebiras are pretty much what the Yorubas are to Nigeria. The Okuns are quite like the Igbo people of Nigeria on the Kogi State political map. The Igalas, Ebiras and Okuns are in a bitter graveyard feud. It is a conspicuously silent war.

Where an Igala is governor, an Ebira is most naturally positioned to be deputy. Where an Ebira is lucky to be governor, an Igala is most naturally the deputy. The Ebiras know that it might take another 20 years or forever to smell that office again after Yahaya Bello, therefore returning him became a must achieve agenda. The election was more like a war.

Now, the Igalas will wait patiently for the next election and the man that will be best positioned for that job will be Edward Onoja, the present Deputy Governor of the state.

Based on Nigerian politics, if he has enough bread and gets the party ticket, his people will support him no matter what. That is how ethnic politics works.

Yahaya will still want to have a say in 2023, just like any governor and will want to give his friend and deputy, the support. To be impartial is definitely inhuman, therefore he will hand over the All Progressives Congress structure in the state to Onoja to assure him of victory.

Yahaya Bello will sponsor Edward, all things being equal, to take over from him. This is an open secret that is largely based on their long-term friendship and the character that fate has put before them.

Edward will return to his people in search of victory and he will, through his alternative channels, advise Yahaya to take a back seat from a strategy standpoint.

Ladies and gentlemen, that is where Yahaya Bello and Edward Onoja’s relationship will end.

If Edward doesn’t kill Bello, Bello will kill Edward. Oh, it is possible figuratively and literally.

The idea of a Yahaya Bello being the face of an Edward Onoja governorship will be totally repulsive to the Igala people. It is what happens naturally in an ethnicised politics and the Igalas definitely won’t be seeing Yahaya as a friend, but at best a tool.

In all these permutations and strategy-talk, there is a big  question hanging on the average Okun man’s head just as it is on the average Igbo man’s head.

Just as the Igbo people are asking to know when their own will be President of Nigeria, the Okun man is also asking to know when one of their own will become governor of Kogi State.

My own question remains: How can Nigeria or Kogi ever make real progress under this kind of arrangement? Why not regionalise and give every ethnic group in any state a Mayor?

This life is too short to be repeating a time-tested approach that guarantees nothing but failure.

KOGI GUBER ELECTION: Election was free, fair and transparent, few skirmishes not enough reason to cancel election... INEC ACCREDITED OBSERVERS

Losers advised to go to tribunal, rather than inciting the public...

The accredited observers groups for the November 16th Gubernatorial and Kogi West Senatorial re-run election held on the 16th of November, 2019 have rated the performance and process of the election high and an improvement on the last general election. The group made the declaration during the presentation of its preliminary report on the conduct of the election over the weekend, the group says the election materials deployments, commencement time, performance of electoral gadgets and coalition of results happened as required by law and all known conventions were strictly obeyed.

The various observers group which granted a joint press conference to present their position however says there were pockets of skirmishes and ballot snatching in less than five percent area of the state, the group condemn such act of desperation and undemocratic tendency, the group however affirm that such few cases of election disruption are not enough reason to call for cancellation of election.

The various civil society accredited observers maintained that they sent over five hundred accredited observers to the two hundred and thirty nine wards and the twenty one LGAs of Kogi State and the report submitted shows significant improvement in the conduct and credibility of elections. Speaking on behalf of the group and leader of the Centre for Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness, Kalu Orji and  Mr Olaniyan Mathew of Youth Education for Electoral Development, says the group is satisfied with the process, they both listed measures adopted to arrive at the report. Mr Olaniyan says that Nigerians must begin to separate personal interest and speak the truth rather than politicizing every action during election, he says all Candidates and stakeholders have commended the process of the election when talking to press at the point of voting but would come back to condemn same when election does not eventually go their way. He says this trend of condemning process when it does not favour premeditated interest is not the best for our democracy.

Mr Orji Kalu on his part says there was no any form of violence in the whole of Kogi Central, more than eighty percent of Kogi West and same for Kogi East, he said skirmishes were noticed during coalition in Lokoja, Kabba/Bunu, Ijumu and a few other places, he says these cases in all honesty are not substantial enough to cancel the entire state. *I have listened to the argument of some development partners that asked for the cancellation of election and I can sufficiently say that their argument lacks substance, does not respect any atom of our law and a hasty recommendations that have no basis in constitutional democracy. I can sympathise with the CSO group for being political in their accessment, we wish to on this note encourage those who feel dissatisfied to exercise their right litigation* Mr Kalu says

More than eight INEC accredited observers were part of the joint press conference, some are

GYB's VICTORY: Total emancipation of the neglected and unrecognised minority ethnic nationalities in Kogi state... Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi

The leader of the G16, a forum of the Senatorial Candidates of sixteen political parties that withdrew their ambition for the re-election of Governor Yahaya Bello and his running mate Chief Edward David Onoja and Senator Smart Adeyemi for Senate, Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi says the landslide victory of Governor Yahaya Bello and his running mate Chief Edward David Onoja represents the emancipation of the neglected and unrecognised minority ethnic nationalities in Kogi state. The statement was made immediately the Independent National Electoral Commission announced Governor Yahaya Bello as the winner of the November 16th Gubernatorial election and Senatorial election.

Omoluabi says that the state has been under the perpetual rulership of one ethnic group since the creation of the state,  he says this has generated untold ethnic animosity and suspicion that has lingered for 28 years. He says the assumption of office by Governor Yahaya Bello signalled the opportunity of a minority tribe to rule in substantive capacity, he says the popular re-election of Governor Yahaya Bello on 16th of November clearly brings the total emancipation of the minority ethnic groups. He says Governor Yahaya Bello is a child of destiny whose emancipation has enthroned equality and equity.

*I have been around the political exercise of Kogi for almost two decades and I can say authoritatively that no election has brought unity, equity and ethnic inclusiveness for the people of Kogi State more than the November 16th election. The emergence of Governor Yahaya Bello and his running mate Chief Edward David Onoja is clearly a departure from the past and arrival of a Kogi without tribal bias or ethnic proclivity. Kogi of today can therefore be called a state united in governance* Omoluabi says

The statement therefore salute the pragmatism and steadfastness of the New direction government. Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi assured the people of improved welfare,  infrastructural development and general development of the people.

The group also commend the Kogi East new direction members under the leadership of His Excellency, Chief Edward David Onoja CIK, for his outstanding leadership, commitment to a United Kogi State and his rare qualities that gave confidence in the Igala people which  resulted into this victory.

I congratulate the people of Kogi Central for their unflinching support, loyalty and unity which created the base for minority emancipation.

I commend the people of Kogi West for believing in the project of rotational leadership which brings government closer to every ethnic groups.

PDP could not win Bayelsa, Kogi Election by violence ― APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that its main rival, the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) was responsible for the incidents of violence that characterised the weekend governorship election in Kogi and Bayelsa States.

The APC made the allegation in a statement issued last night and signed by its spokesman, Mallam Lanre Isa-Onilu.

The party further alleged that hoodlums were brought from Osun and Oyo states, few days to the election to unleash violence in Kogi State while the same sinister plot was planned ahead the weekend election in Bayelsa State.

Onilu commended the police for minimizing the impact of the violence while he appealed to his party faithful in the two states to remain calm and be law-abiding ahead of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) official announcement of the winner of the weekend elections in the two states.

“We are aware of several hoodlums brought into Kogi State from Osun and Oyo States few days before the elections, just as we monitored the grand preparation to unleash violence in Bayelsa State. We are delighted that the forces of darkness have failed. The subterfuge deployed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rig the election in both states, including the Kogi West senatorial rerun election was thwarted.

“We note the effort by the PDP to employ their usual manipulation through ballot box snatching, massive thumb printing of ballot papers and vote-buying. We also note, for instance, the video now in circulation of self-help ballot paper thumb printing at the polling unit of the PDP governorship candidate, Musa Wada and vote-buying by the PDP’s Senatorial candidate, Dino Melaye.

“We thank all our supporters for standing their ground to protect the ballot and ensure the credibility of the electoral process. While we wait for the collation process to complete and for the final results to be announced, we urge our members in both states to remain calm and peaceful.”

By Ademola Akadiri

The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Honourable Edward Onoja has opined that the political party and politicians who stole and shared among themselves a 2 billion naira Central Bank intervention fund in 2015 should never be allowed to govern the people again.

The Deputy Governor noted that in the last administration under the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party in Kogi State, certain persons in government decided to share this fund meant for the entirety of the people and the current government was repaying the debt.

He gave this revelation on Friday when 1,700 beneficiaries of the Kogi State Appeals project were received by the State Government

Honourable Edward asserted that although these individuals were currently giving accounts to the financial crimes agency, they were still seeking to govern the state which they have held ransom in the most immediate past.

The Deputy Governor who is also the  Chairman, state steering committee, Kogi State Appeals project pointed out that unlike the PDP administration, the All Progressive Congress in Kogi state has at different times initiated numerous projects that has been beneficial to the people.

He said the people would in the next few days make a choice  between these variables available to them based on their trajectories and antecedents, asking the people to make the decision wisely.

The deputy Governor noted that farmers are very integral parts of the state and any government who does not place them in priority does not have the good intention of his people.

He affirmed that the government of Kogi State would continue to put in the front burner policies, initiatives and programmes that would ensure that farming and other agribusinesses becomes viable and attractive to youths.

KSU renamed Prince Audu Abubakar University

The Kogi State University with the acronym KSU, will now be known as Prince Audu Abubakar University, PAAU

Governor Yahaya Bello renamed the university, founded in 1999 in honor of the former Governor who died after emerging winner of the 2015 gubernatorial election.

Bello said the roles of Prince Audu in the development of the State cannot be wished away saying the labour of our heroes past must be rrewarded.

Re: My Appointees Are Not Known In Their Communities, GYB Cries out to Faleke.

Our attention has been drawn to a fallacious story fabricated and published by an online news platform alleging that Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello had cried out to Hon. James Abiodun Faleke over his Kogi West political appointees diminishing popularity in their respective political domain and which has consequently affected the progress and conduct of the ongoing campaigns in the district.

The story is not only a complete falsehood but also a calculated one at that aimed at misinforming the general public ahead of the coming gubernatorial and senatorial election in the State.

We therefore wish to state that, no such conversations exist between the Governor and Hon. Faleke and but can only exist in the wildest imagination of the fake storyteller, it shows the writer and his co peddlers are already jittery of defeat in the coming election.

Hon. James Abiodun Faleke remain committed and undistracted from ensuring landslide victory for the All Progressive Congress, APC come November 16th.

Its also obvious the rumours peddlers are developing cold feet over Faleke's large followership and endorsement of Governor Bello's reelection, therefore had no choice than resorting to promoting fake news such as this.

The Kogi West APC Campaigns Organisation Directotates are being manned by political heavyweights, men and women of integrity who enjoys enormous acceptance and support in their respective domain as evident in the large turnout of people at different federal constituency rallies across the district. The people have decided to return Governor Bello to Lugard House and are leaving no stone unturned in promoting the party APC ahead of the election.
The fake storyteller is well known for spreading fake news and unfounded allegations against individuals and should therefore be disregarded forthwith.
