Kabba-Egbe, Kabba-Iyamoye and Kupa roads, topmost on my agenda for 2019...Omoluabi

Leading Senatorial candidate and flagbearer of the African Democratic Congress, Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi (OBA) has described the collapse of Kabba-Egbe road as a danger to the economic prosperity of Kogi West. He made this comment in a release he personally signed and made available to the press. The senatorial aspirant while lamenting the grave implication of the poor state of the road says it is a major reason for the excrutiating poverty level and collapse of economic activities of the people around the area. He vowed to tackle the problem immediately he is elected as the representative of the people.

The young aspirant who expressed shock and displeasure at the way the road has been abandoned by government and successive representatives in the last nineteen (19) years. He said the neglect of the road is an indication of the insensitivity of the representatives over the years. "If our lawmakers in the past and present are really committed to the construction of the road, it would have been completed before now" Omoluabi said, he further stated that with 250m yearly constituency project allocation of the Senator, 300m combined allocation for the two representatives, federal goverent has spent over seven (7) billion naira in the last twelve (12) years in Okunland and this sum is enough to put the road in shape for the good of the people, if indeed our representatives are responsive enough to understand that the road is about the biggest nightmare of our people.

Omoluabi however assured the people that the road, Kabba-Iyamoye road and Kupa road will receive the most unprecedented attention when he is elected. It is a statement of fact that the road has been abandoned with the people in a state of despair and utter discomfort arising from the comatose state of the road, but there is hope of total reconstructions when we are elected, by the grace of God

I will create effective change in Ogori/Magongo if elected-Otunba Oluwasegun

By Gideon Ayodele

Politics is said to be for development and this development can only be achieved through effective and effective representation.

Otunba Oluwasegun Ajiboye has promised to create effective change in the constituency through Independent Democrats (I.D) platform. According to him, he has chosen this political party with the hope of giving Ogori/Magongo a choice.

Otunba Oluwasegun Ajiboye who believed that the past and present representatives from the constituency have been trying and offering their best but their best is yet not good enough for the constituency and confident to bring about a rapid and drastic development to his people.

While interacting with our source, he said "I feel that the time has come for me to offer myself as a servant in the public arena. My hope is to bring education to the forefront of issue, create Agricultural empowerment, youth empowerment, women empowerment and portable water etc"

"Specifically I will be looking at programmes, initiatives and interventions in key areas such as commerce and industry, agricultural transformation, education and training, infrastructural development in Ogori/Magongo, youth and socio-economic development of Ogori/Magongo, improved healthcare service delivery and other areas. Over the years, there has been this cry of disconnect between elected representatives and the electorate. How do you intend to bridge the gap between you and your constituents if elected?

"To be truly representative, I will ensure that the constituents have access to information about parliamentary proceedings, legislation, and policy, and be able to engage in continual dialogue with me. In this regard, regular constituency briefing and town hall meetings will be a key feature of my representation".

"The key principle here is inclusion and participation, ensuring that every Ogori/Magongo person is able to voice his or her opinion and so contribute to the development of laws and policies thereby giving back power to the people. It will be about making laws and initiating policies that will be responsive to the values and interest of our people".

"The bottom line is that Ogori/Magongo state constituency need state and federal presence, which I promise to offer. We are a peaceful people but not stupid or foolish.  We need road infrastructure network, state and federal government key institutions. If given the opportunity to represent the good people of this highly educated and exposed constituency, I shall therefore use the legislative seat to attract development and road infrastructure projects, promote participation in schemes and programmes of the state government that help alleviate poverty, create jobs, encourage entrepreneurship and foster growth and development of the good people of Ogori/Magongo Local government".

"Additionally, attention will therefore be given to understanding our needs, our development priorities, our communal aspirations and codifying this into our legislative agenda through positive engagements and consultations and driving its effective implementation" he concluded.

OKUN DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION TO HOLD ANNUAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY ON 23RD NOVEMBER 2018

OKUN DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION TO HOLD ANNUAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY ON 23RD NOVEMBER 2018

By Gideon Ayodele

The National Execute of the Okun Development Association after her last meeting proposed a two days event to wrap up her activities for the year with an Annual General Assembly to be held on the 22nd through 23rd of November this year in Kabba.
This was contained in a statement signed by the National President,  Barrister Femi Mokikan.
The statement reads: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE ODA

Good Day Great Minds in the house.
At the just concluded ODA National Executive meeting to mark the 1st year anniversary of the present Executive, the Executive took a decision to hold a general meeting that is for all members of the Association at home and in the Diaspora. This will be the equivalent of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) that companies hold at the end of their Financial Year.

This Association belongs to you.

You therefore have a right to know what your Association did and how it faired in the last one year.
The proposed Annual General Assembly (AGA) will provide all members a unique opportunity to interact, put a face to the rich intellectual contributors that we savor daily on all Okun-based social platforms, ask questions, raise issues and make innovative suggestions on how to further strengthen the Association so as to energize it more for the challenges ahead and thus make ODA the ODA of our collective dream.

Distinguished members of the ODA, you will agree that political engineering is in the air. In a couple of months, elections into various national and state assemblies will take place. Many of the contending political parties will be fielding Okun candidates for most of the offices.
The election will be preceded by the usual electioneering campaign. It will not be out of place to have an interactive session with all Okun candidates.

Such a session will enable each candidate further market himself/herself to the electorates. The electorates will also have an opportunity to ask one or two questions from the candidates or make useful suggestions.

Our ultimate goal is to encourage an environment where politics devoid of rancor, bitterness and violence before, during and after the elections remain the driver of all political discuss and activities.

Towards this end, we plan to partner with another visionary Okun group, the Progressive Cord, to use the period of the AGA for this purpose.

It is for this reason that the ODA Executive has decided to hold a two-in-one Forum that will combine interaction with all Okun politicians that are putting themselves forward for the 2019 National election, and follow that up with the normal AGA that will review the activities of the ODA for the last one year.

In furtherance of this, a two-day event has been put together as scheduled below:

ODA Interactive Forum/AGA

Date: Thursday 22, November 2018 - Interactive Session with Okun candidates for elective positions in the 2019 election. (From 9:00am -5:00pm)

Date: Friday 23, November 2018 - ODA Annual General Assembly (AGA)

Venue: Olonijola Event Center, Kabba-Lokoja Rd. Kabba.

The Day 2 program is planned to be in two parts.
The morning session will attempt to address critical issues that will help redirect our youths from the current pervasive self-destructive ways of life to more of some of the core values that our ancestors were known and respected for.
There will be presentation of papers for this purpose.
Ms Charity Ukwo Abah, Regional Coordinator, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (SMEDAN) will be speaking on SELF EMPLOYMENT AS SOLUTION TO UNEMPLOYMENT IN OUR SOCIETY.

After her paper, Dr Aderemi Medupin of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Alkimah University, Ilorin, will speak on THE EFFECT OF DRUG ABUSE ON YOUTHS AND NATION BUILDING.

Prof Shola Omotola of the Federal University Oye, Ekiti State, will also be around to enrich the discussions.

While we may not be able to provide the space and logistics for even 25% of all Okun people in one location for an event of this nature, we are hoping that at least 300 people will consider it important enough to commit their time to.

As to be expected, an event of this nature requires some serious planning and funding.
Planning has commenced in earnest.
The candidates for elective offices will be contacted individually within the week. Similarly, all the Community Development Associations representing the major blocks that make up Okun will be formally informed and invited.

As for funding, we shall be reaching out to you individually for your financial support specifically for this landmark events. We trust that God will use you as one of those to make it happen.
We therefore urge you to join us in disseminating this information as widely as possible and prepare yourself for a very exciting and refreshing two days (November 22 & 23, 2018) that will rewrite the history of community engagement in Okunland.
Jehovah God will preserve us beyond that time.
Please pray along with us for a very successful event".

I Represent The Change Ijumu Need ~ Ipinmisho

By Samuel Oj Temibi.

The Candidate of African Democratic Congress ahead of Ijumu 2019 election Otunba Shuaib Ipinmisho has declared that he is the change needed to move Ijumu to the promise land.

Ipinmisho made this declaration on sunday in a brief interview with him about his political aspiration and what he can offer to better the battered economic condition of his constituency if elected.

Ipinmisho stated that considering his past and present political experience he has the wherewithal and the strength to move his constituents from the shackles of poor representation and inject a decent and quality representation to the political clime of Ijumu constituency.

When asked what motivated his aspiration to represent the people of Ijumu constituency Ipinmisho said "it has been part of me to find a way to assist people around me and in my locality. The major source of good governance is when you have effective legislature and a vibrant assembly that can put the executive on it toe. Not until that is achieved that can we have good representation that we crave for. So my major desire to move Kogi forward motivated my readiness to serve in the assembly.

He stressed that the present KOGI state house of Assembly has failed to carry out its primary assignment which is to checkmate the activities of the executive and enact laws that will have tremendous impact in the live of the people.

When asked what will be his cardinal point of target If elected, Ipinmisho promised to combat the excessive intake of drugs by the youth in Ijumu and KOGI as a whole, he said "Majority of youth are on drugs these days. If we are not careful in some years to come we may not be able to manage the atrocious outcome of the challenge of consumption of hard drugs by our youth. My major assignment is to encourage government to wage serious war against illicit drugs he concluded.

When asked what plans he has for the youth if elected, Ipinmisho promised to encourage the youth on vocational training and decent agricultural farming. He said " I believe the priority of someone like me will be shifted to enhancement of agriculture. There is so much in farming if you provide the enabling environment. The army of youth around are ready to work if you provide the necessary ingredients, I will establish a vocational training center where our youth can engage themselves in vocational skills and I will then provide a revolving loans for the youth to build them up. The money will be available for youth that are members of an existing group. Also there are several organizations out there that are eager to help the people without necessarily waiting on government. So when I am elected next year i will tap from those potentials and make sure our youth benefit massively from such opportunity.

" I will discourage the tendency of giving the youth peanuts that can not help them to become useful to the society. I will build them up and make them happy and useful for themselves. When you give a youth the sum of 50 thousand naira, you have not help such youth because after a week the money will be consumed on frivolity and such youth will still come back and beg for same amount but when you encourage them to partake in a vocational training or agricultural works, you'll hand over to them what to eat for the rest of their live he said.

Ipinmisho urged the people of Ijumu not to elect someone who have no viewable agenda for them, he promised to be accessible, accountable and open for criticisms if need be. He also thanked the people of Ijumu constituency for their support so far towards the people's agenda, he promised not to fail his constituents.

Hauwa Liman : A colossus of the time... Omoluabi

I received the news of Hauwa's murder with rude shock and devastatingly bewildered. Her death is one of the very many reasons we believe that our nation must reappraise the architecture and objectives of our nationhood and make practicable steps towards the protection of lives and properties.

The unfortunate torture, emotional disorientation and eventual murder of a humanitarian like Hauwa is to say the least, most tragic and despecable. Our hearts and thoughts are with the family, friends, colleagues of late Hauwal and the entire Nigerians over this irrepairable loss.

Hauwal will be remembered for her care for humanity, selflessness and patriotism.

Her death is a wake up call to the Federal Government to immediately ensure the release of all other captive that are still being held by the Boko Haram.

Signed

DINO MELAYE REACTS TO POLICE STATEMENT OVER MIDNIGHT INVASION OF HIS COUNTRY HOME

By Jare Tiamiyu

Senator representing Kogi West, Dino  Melaye has reacted reacted to the statement by the Nigerian Police, Kogi state command over the midnight of his residence.

Melaye  reacted through his special assistant on media, Gideon Ayodele, said the police was only being economical with the truth over the invasion of his residence.

He queried the rationale behind the action of the policemen in the middle of the night if truly they had come to arrest him as claimed

Ayodele said, “I think I will commend the police, especially the Kogi state command for even accepting that they invaded the residence of Senator Dino Melaye.
Funnily enough, the invasion was carried out around 1:30 am which gives more meaning to the invasion rather than a lawful arrest of an armless citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“It will equally interest Nigerians if the Kogi state command can produce the details of the said injured officer, his duty post and duty description. It is equally good to note that the police have withdrawn the police details attached to Senator Dino Melaye and the only armed men on the said trip were the men of the NSCDC.

“The police was surprised and shocked by the information that we have about their activities. They are equally aware that international community has been duly informed. That same Friday, Senator Dino passed through the main Lokoja township road leading to government house twice and the police did not attempt arresting him. The question is ”Why in the night?

“As far as Senator Dino Melaye is concerned, he will continue to do only those things that will promote unity and development of the state”.

2019 Convention: Kogi State Deserves An Opportunity To Host.

By Tolu Omotugba

Within the last one week, I have been inundated with calls and text messages from well-wishers, all expressing their never waning support for our ambition.

We have received huge solidarity rallies through calls and visits from numerous senior colleagues in the profession many of whom I never knew had their eyes and ears tuned to Kogi state chapter activities; taking note of and appreciating our little efforts in redeeming the image of our noble profession.

Yesterday night I was embroiled in a rather feisty discourse that questioned 'our preparedness'. Primarily, the questions revolved around the matter of 'event centers and hotel facilities' in Lokoja, and for a minute I amused myself by sending to him pictures of 8 classy hotels and the 2,000 capacity Glass House in Kogi State Government House that was recently used for one of our programs.

First, Kogi state is bordered by the states of Nassawara to the northeast; Benue to the east; Enugu, Anambra, and Delta to the south; Ondo, Ekiti, and Kwara to the west; and Niger to the north, hence, its central position on the map. This has in turn made Lokoja a stop point and hub of hotels for inter state travellers and foreign diplomats over the past decades.

There was also the question, "Do you have the support of your state government?” Wow!

Again, the Kogi state chapter of NVMA has been able to collaborate with the state government to organize 3 eventful programs just within this year; the World Veterinary Day celebration, Mass CBPP Vaccination throughout the state and recently, World Rabies Day celebration. These programs witnessed the presence of Kogi state deputy governor,  Secretary to the state government, Commissioner of Agriculture and some other key government figures.

To set the record straight, the honorable commissioner of Agriculture, Barr Kehinde Oloruntoba has expressly promised during a recent meeting, the full support of the sate  governor to make the 2019 convention an event of reference if Kogi state finally gets the hosting right. He had gone ahead to ensure that Kogi state ministry of Agriculture takes up the responsibility of transporting all members of NVMA, Kogi state chapter to participate in the Sokoto congress.

On a final note, we are a young, focused and fast growing body that needs nothing but encouragement; this is what we are passionately asking for in the upcoming general assembly tagged Sokoto 2018.
Please oblige us!

Omoluabi Condemns Political Desperation and Thuggery

OMOLUABI,CONDEMNS THE NEW TREND OF POLITICAL DESPERATION AND THUGGERY IN KOGI WEST POLITICS,..SAYS IT'S FOREING AND UNPRECEDENTED.

The leading senatorial candidate of Kogi west, the African Democratic Congress(ADC) senatorial flag bearer,OMOLUABI BODE ADEYEMI has frowned and condemned in totality  the what he called ,"political desperation and thuggery "in Kogi west, which according to him is new in Kogi west. He complained and I quote,'" Shooting, killing, maiming and death threats has never been part of Kogi west politics,we have always competed fiercely and stiffly but healthily where it concerns politics.

This new trend of sporadic shooting, thuggery and intimidation has never been part of us and it has to stop now before it degenerate into something we all will regret tomorrow. Democratic principles are rooted on the people choosing who they want to lead them and not leaders forcing themselves on people.

If you believe your people want you,why shooting and beating people, let democracy run it's full course;he advised. He called on all  parties and their stake holders to desist from anything that will breed rancour and violence in the land and let people decide who they want.

He ask them to borrow a leaf from ADC's Nation wide primary elections where internal democracy were exemplified.
He also use the opportunity to thank  sons and daughters for their KOGI west so far especially the ADC delegates who massively voted for him during primaries.

He maintained that the wellbeing of people of Kogi west is top of his senatorial agenda, especially the youth.

Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu PDP Primaries: Tell The Truth and Stop Living In deceit.

Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu PDP Primaries: Tell The Truth and Stop Living In deceit.

By Segun Obafemi

I have taken my time to have full retrospect of Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency PDP Primary Election which held last week. What played out during the primary election is simple and easy to understand.

Reason some of the aspirants resorted to blackmailing Hon. Teejay Yusuf over an election they all colluded to disrupt and which later turn around in favour of their suppose victim should be critically looked into.

It’s no more news there was late arrival of election materials that day and over the years, there had always been issues of late arrival of election materials in the federal constituency. In 2011, due to late arrival of materials, the PDP primary election between Hon. Teejay Yusuf and Sen. Dino Melaye was concluded late in the midnight, Hon. Teejay even provided lightening for the venue when it was getting dark.

From past experience, most party primaries always last till midnight and this is evident in the just concluded 2018 PDP primaries across the state.

On the fateful day, the party officials didn’t show up on time, aspirants, delegates and party supporters were at the venue waiting for the party officials till about 12midnight. When it was getting darker, it was same Hon. Teejay that made arrangement  for the venue to be lightened up in order to have a conducive environment for the exercise.

After few hours of waiting, some aspirants and delegates left the venue claiming they have been informed that the election have been shifted till the next morning by 8am.

The question is, why would some aspirants and delegates agree to leave the election venue at the same time or on whose authority was the election said to be postponed by the aspirants.

Who postponed the primary election till the next morning, the party or who?
It’s obvious the aspirants out of desperation deliberately cooked up a fake postponement story and hurriedly left the venue to perfect plans on how to stop the primary election from holding.

Your guess is as good as mine as to why the aspirants would want to stop the election from holding.

Few hours after they had left, the party officials arrived and instantly contacted all aspirants and delegates who had left the venue to return for the excecise.

The aspirants were Mr. S.O Adeleye, Arc. Salman Idris, Hon. Nathaniel Taiwo, Abayomi Bello and Musa Yakub.

They all came back to the venue, accreditation of delegates and voting commenced but few minutes later, one of the aspirants henchman who is also a party official of Kabba/Bunu LGA, Eseyin Kayode(1212) disrupted the whole process by attacking party officials and some delegates.

Note that, it’s an open secret that Kayode Eseyin who disrupted the process was one of the aspirants supporter and not with Hon. Teejay Yusuf.

For safety, the party officials hurriedly left the venue after which they met, counted the votes already casted and Hon. Teejay Yusuf emerged as the party candidate.

It’s of note that Hon. Teejay Yusuf stood against the disqualification of some of these aspirants and urged the party to conduct a free and fair primaries but unfortunately it was disrupted by the same aspirants crying foul today.

It’s also important to say that some of the aspirants have confirmed that the said Kayode Eseyin was instructed by them to disrupt the primary election because it was obvious that most of the delegates on ground will vote for Hon. Teejay.

If the decision of the party had favored any of the aspirants, would any of them be protesting the election.

Their plans backfired in favour of Hon. Teejay and now they are crying foul.

We should all ask why one of the aspirants henchman disrupted an election that has already commenced.
We should ask why all the aspirants left the venue at the same time for an unknown destination.

Obviously the aspirants mapped out plans to disrupt the election process using Eseyin Kayode(1212) after smelling defeat but it backfired on them all.

However, everyone will also agree that Kabba/Bunu LG should not be shortchanged in the scheme of political office zoning in the party.
Sen. Dino Melaye from Ijumu got the senate ticket, it will be fair, just and democratic to equally allow other local government have the House of Reps ticket.

It’s on this note, that the national authority of the party had insisted that, for fairness and peace to reign both Senate and House of Reps can not be zoned to the same Ijumu Local Government and therefore agree that status quo be maintain but Hon. Teejay still insisted on participating in the primaries, it finally held and he emerged victorious.

I also wish to briefly address an attempt to paint Hon. Teejay’s third term bid in bad light, may I remind them that Sen.Dino Melaye and Sen. Smart Adeyemi are today jostling for their today third term bid.

Reason they are obsessed with Hon. Teejay third term bid remain a big question to be answered.

With Sen. Dino Melaye as the candidate of the party from Ijumu, it’s only natural that the House of Reps ticket should be allowed to be in Kabba/Bunu LG.

It has also been confirmed that six of the aspirants are already talking to Hon. Teejay in line with the above submission. It’s for fairness sake that Kabba/Bunu LG should be allowed to produce the party candidate for 2019 general elections.

I therefore appeal to other aspirants to toll same line in the interest of the party and development of Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency.

Thank you all.

NON CONDUCT OF PDP PRIMARY ELECTION FOR KABBA-BUNU/IJUMU FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY: FACTS, UPDATE ON STATUS AND CONSEQUENCES

NON CONDUCT OF PDP PRIMARY ELECTION FOR KABBA-BUNU/IJUMU FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY: FACTS, UPDATE ON STATUS AND CONSEQUENCES

In view of the contrived confusion foisted on aspirants and party loyalists as it affect the primary election for Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, it has become pertinent to lay bare the facts, avail our party leadership and constituents an update and point out the dire consequences of not conducting the primary election.

Facts

Nine(9) aspirants were screened, cleared and eligible to participate in the primary election

3rd day of October, 2018 was the scheduled date for the election

Aspirants and delegates converged at Prestige Hotel, Kabba; the designated Venue for the election on the said date

Delegates and aspirants waited sixteen (16) hours from 8am to 12 midnight but did not see party officials assigned to conduct the exercise and no justifiable reason was communicated for their absence and inability to conduct the primary election

Delegates and aspirants dispersed after information was received that the primary election has been shifted to 7am on 4th October, 2018 for security considerations in view of the time to avoid apprehension

At about 1.30am news filtered out that party officials led by Bode Ogunmola, Kogi State PDP Publicity Secretary were at the Venue conducting accreditation of delegates

Only 7 out of 337 delegates were on ground at the time other aspirants arrived the venue with delegates they were able to contact

This attempted electoral heist was rebuffed with protests and when Hon. T.J Yusuf realized the ploy was not going to fly, the thugs that came with him started sporadic shooting to ensure the primary election did not hold. Thiis forced the officials to abscond on the premise of insecurity and alleged threats to their lives

Incident was reported at Kabba Divisional Police Headquarters where it was confirmed that the Police and other security agencies were not invited to provide security coverage for the event

Hon. T. J. Yusuf after the mayhem and aborted primary election caused to be published that he has won the primary election. The online publication to this effect was retracted after the blogger realized he was misled. There can be no winner or loser in a contest that never held

When confronted on 4th October, 2018 in Lokoja, Mr. Bode Ogunmola who is also the Returning Officer for the election confirmed there was no election for Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituenc
Inferences

It is safe to deduce that

What played out was a sinister plot, to criminally conduct a kangaroo primary election in the absence of other aspirants by deliberately appearing after midnight thinking other aspirants will not know

There was a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise 330 delegates

There is an obvious collaboration between one aspirant and obviously compromised party officials saddled with the responsibility of conducting the primary election to confer unfair advantage on a particular aspirant to the detriment of other aspirants

The deliberate evasive disposition of Bode Ogunmola that has made conduct of the primary election impossible is a ploy to run down the clock considering the expiration of submission of party's candidates to INEC

The summation of the aforementioned is a deliberate attempt to foist Hon. T. J Yusuf on us by tactically ensuring the primary election did not hold.

Prayers

Immediate conduct of a free, fair, transparent and credible primary election for Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency to enable a candidate emerge that will truly reflect the wishes and aspirations of majority of delegates

Reconstitution of a new Election Committee composed of persons of impeccable character to conduct the primary election during the day

Provision of adequate security for the primary election to deter those who might intend to unleash mayhem and disrupt the exercise

Urgent decisive and punitive actions should be taken against the perpetrators of the attempted midnight electoral robbery

Conclusion

It is rather sad to see the level certain individuals have sunk in their desperation to unlawfully appropriate a mandate.

Power truly belongs to the people and any plan to pervert the people's wishes is outrageous and condemnable

At this critical stage in our great party's, PDP to reposition itself for success in the 2019 elections, old attributes that have been inimical to the party's interest must be jettisoned

Until and unless the primary election is held urgently, the resulting crisis will reduce the chances of the party in the 2019 election

We remain resolute on our insistence that the primary election must not only hold but be conducted in adherence to due process

We understand that by INEC's timetable, the deadline for all political parties to submit their lists of candidates is 7th October, 2018 and we await the decision of our party leadership on how we can escape this obvious quagmire.

Salman Idris

My Story

*THIS IS MY STORY*
I didn't just emerge from the blues onto the political landscape of Ijumu. In this journey of politics, I daresay that I have come a long way.
Although I had prior political engagements outside my immediate environment, I started partisan politics in Ijumuland precisely in the year 2001. It was in that year that  I came back home from Abuja to partake in the process for the election of Council chairman of Ijumu LGA. In spite of that I was described as rookie politician, I contested against giants and came second in the People’s Democratic Party primary that featured the likes of  Hon. Adams Olorunmo and the late Hon Bode
Olumodeji. Hon Fehinti Dada won, basically because of the strong support of Prince Sola Akanmode who was then the defacto leader of the party. It is important to mention that the late Barr. Fatoba from Egbeda Egga also took part in the contest. All of us who took part in that primary were from Ijumu Oke. Based on the rotational arrangement of elective offices in Ijumu, it was then the turn of Ijumu Oke to occupy the chairmanship seat at the council. When it was time to present the list of supervisory councillors in Fehinti Dada’s  administration, Chief Biodun Ojo pleaded that I should allow Chief S. O. Ibrahim to have the slot as he had been in the terrain long before me.

The House of Assembly seat was going to be vacant in 2007 and it was yet the turn of Ijumu Oke to take the slot. I prepared to participate. In fact I had taken my campaign train through Ijumu Oke and was at Gbedde when Chief Ojo sent an emissary to me directing that I stopped the campaign and return to his house in Egbeda for a crucial meeting of Ijumu Oke critical PDP stakeholders. At the meeting, our leader,  Chief Ojo advised all aspirants to withdraw from the race for Hon Adam Olorunmo. The late  Hon Olumodeji and I abided by the leader’s instruction and withdrew. On that occasion, Chief Ojo had to take me to his bedroom and advised that since age was still on my side, he would rather I waited for another time. Olumodeji and I again stepped down stepped down as advised while Adekoya Ogbonnewo (Joab) and the late Barr. Fatoba participated in the party primary that produced Hon Adams as the party flag bearer. Adams eventually won at the general elections in 2007. Early in that year, the local government councils in the state were dissolved and I put in for appointment as a member of the caretaker committee, but our leader again preferred Hon Paul Aiyenigba. I kept my cool.

While Aiyenigba was still serving in the council, another opportunity  came. One Saturday morning, Chief J. O. Yusuf and I were at Chief Ojo's at Egbeda residence where he told us that there was an opening for the Executive Secretary of the state’s Pension Board and that the governor had asked him to bring someone and that he was going to present Aiyenigba for the job. By the following week the appointment was effected,  I was hoping to at least take the office that Paul vacated. As a matter of fact the trio of Olumodeji,  Olorunmo-then a serving member of KSHA and I met with Chief Ojo at his Phase 1 Filling Station in Lokoja and they presented me to him to take up the caretakeship that Paul just vacated. He felt the office should be used to placate Chief Sunday Arogundade and his group. However, a few days later, Chief Ojo facilitated my appointment as Special Assistant to the Governor where I spent just six months after which the governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris dissolved his cabinet. In the build up to council election in 2008, I was to be elected the vice chairman to Owotogbe,  again I was made to relinquish it to an Egbeda man.

I could not return to office as SA to the Governor until sometime in 2008 due to political intrigues. I got reappointed SA with the help of God and my elder brother,  Otunba Lanre Ipinmisho who was then the Director-General of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). I was on that seat till 2011 when I was relieved of it because we supported Hon Yori Afolabi to win the State Assembly seat. Our efforts were considered as anti party activity and it affected me and Hon. Jambright Sumanu. Because of the treachery against me and Jambright, we left the Ojo camp in anger and pitched tent with Sen Smart Adeyemi, and of course the job opportunities at 'Abuja' we were promised as a result of the sack never came.

I put in my very best to build the political structure of Sen Smart Adeyemi. The opportunity to be a member of the local government caretaker committee came twice and twice did I miss it.
Again, the council election came and I put in everything I had for the success of that camp, that effort produced Odutola Chairmanship, but I had nothing to show for it.
All these while, I was in the PDP but when Hon Biodun Faleke came in 2015, I decided to join his team. When the Governor-Wada heard of my decision to move on, he wanted to meet with me and and some selected few from Ijumu which included Hon Fehinti Dada, Arc Salman Idris, Kola Fagbemi, Taiye Ikupeleye and a host of others. The meeting was to be facilitated by Hon Teejay Yusuf. When those at the helm of affairs which included Sen Adeyemi heard about it, they truncated that opportunity. I then decided that it would be better to try my luck in the Audu/Faleke group.
We all put in our best and course Capt. Idris Wada was routed at the polls. The rest, as they say, is history. Although the journey has been very rough, I have remained steadfast with the Faleke group till date.

This is my travail in the rough ride through the difficult terrain of my political sojourn that I need to lay bare before all the good people of Ijumu.

To me, the time that Chief Biodun Ojo prophesied over 11 years ago has come and that time is now. I pray to the almighty God that time shall come to pass mashaAllah.

My appeal to our people is that it's not just time for the progress of Ijumu but time for aiye eje unse temi lijumu.

Asiko Ti To Fun Itesiwaju Ijumu.
