US President Trump may ban 2-year visa for Nigerians

Except the federal government takes a proactive visa policy review, Nigerians will no longer be issued with American entry visas which have two-year validity following the executive order signed last Friday by President Donald Trump.
According to report by an online medium, Nigerians who hold dual nationality will be affected if their other passport is from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen — the seven Muslim-majority countries “of concern”.
A lot of attention has been on the temporary visa ban on citizens of the seven Muslim-majority countries, but the impact on Nigerians is far more than previously thought.
An analysis of the executive order shows that at least two sections will affect Nigerians directly.
Nigeria at present, only issues one-year multiple-entry visa to Americans, which is a non-reciprocation of the two-year visa the country issues to Nigerians.
Section 9 of the executive order states: “The secretary of state shall review all nonimmigrant visa reciprocity agreements to ensure that they are, with respect to each visa classification, truly reciprocal insofar as practicable with respect to validity period and fees, as required by sections 221(c) and 281 of the INA, 8 U.S.C. 1201(c) and 1351, and other treatment.
“If a country does not treat United States nationals seeking nonimmigrant visas in a reciprocal manner, the secretary of state shall adjust the visa validity period, fee schedule, or other treatment to match the treatment of United States nationals by the foreign country, to the extent practicable.”
By this provision, except the federal government quickly moves to extend the validity of Nigerian visa to Americans, Nigerians too will be issued with one-year visas.
Given that the Trump order takes immediate effect, Nigerians holding valid two-year US visas are most likely going to be affected.
Nigeria is also not reciprocating the fees charged by the American government — despite shorter visa validity.
While the US charges Nigerians $160 for a typical visit visa, Nigeria charges $180, in addition to a $35 “processing fee”.

MASSOB slams Nnamani, Kalu, Nwobodo, others for defecting to APC

The Movement for Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has slammed some politicians from the South Eastern part of the country, who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress, describing them as real enemies of Biafra.
Ex-Senate President, Ken Nnamani, as well as former governors of Abia State and Old Anambra State, Orji Uzor Kalu and Jim Nnwobo, respectively, recently joined the APC.
Reacting however, MASSOB National Director for Publicity, Samuel Edeson, in a statement in Enugu, said he aligned with the position of Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who accused the defectors of selfish pursuit.
It added that the defectors had no political value in Igboland.
MASSOB also slammed a particular defector whom it said was not useful to either the state or Ndigbo when he led the National Assembly.
“They (Ndigbo) never benefited anything during his tenure as Senate President. These men are contract seekers that have no Igbo interest in mind.
“Time has come when we will no longer accept these kind of men in Igbo land. We are going to mobilize all the genuine pro-Biafra agitators and Igbo youths against these selfish greedy politicians.
“Who among these men that decamped to APC can beat his chest and boldly say that this is what I did for my people. Nobody will use Igbo land as battle field again like NPN/NPP in 1983.
“The Fulani herdsmen killed our people in Nimbo Uzo-Uwani, killed in Awgu; Umuahia, Delta and other places and they did not see reasons to speak against these killings of innocent people.
“They are political prostitutes. When we said last year that we are going to make this government ungovernable, they thought that we are going to fight them with arms, or going to the streets to protest. No, with our diplomatic moves, we have been able to achieve a lot,” said MASSOB.

AU condemns Trump travel ban, says ‘Africans are only welcome to the US as slaves’

Participants gather for a group photo for the 28th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Monday, Jan. 30, 2017. The U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Monday commended African countries for opening their borders to refugees and people fleeing violence.AP/Mulugeta Ayene
The head of the African Union commission, in her speech to open an AU summit currently underway in Ethiopia, slammed the US President Donald Trump for his bias travel ban on seven Muslim-majority countries, including three in Africa.
AU Commission chair Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma predicted ‘turbulent times’ for the continent due to the travel ban, but criticised the US president’s exclusive sentiments saying, “The very country to whom our people were taken as slaves during the transatlantic slave trade, have now decided to ban refugees from some of our countries.”
“What do we do about this? Indeed, this is one of the greatest challenges to our unity and solidarity,” she told African leaders in the Ethiopian capital.
Dlamini-Zuma last Tuesday also expressed concern about Trump’s presidency, saying it could affect the global advances made in the fight for gender equality as well as combatting climate change.
The comments come after Trump’s executive order halted travel by people with passports from Libya, Somalia, Sudan and four other Middle East nations for 90 days, and stopped refugee resettlement for 120 days.
The ban caused chaos at airports globally, while airlines have to put in place emergency procedures to accommodate both travellers and airline employees who ‘fell short’ of Trump’s new #MuslimBan criteria.
Airlines around the world turned away passengers, refunding tickets and rebooking flights in the aftermath of President Donald Trump’s immigration order over the weekend. The order also suspended the US refugee program for four months – but its effect on approved green card holders remains unclear.
SA’s Dlamini-Zuma will be presiding over the proceedings for the last time as a Chad candidate Moussa Faki Mahamat has been appointed as the new African Union chair. At the summit, the country of Morocco has also been readmitted into the African Union after a 33-year absence.

Aso Rock cabal frustrating our efforts to see Buhari – CAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has debunked insinuations that it is not pragmatic enough in responding to issues that concerned Christians in the country, stating that several attempts by its leadership to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari were “frustrated by some cabals in the Presidency”.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen in Abuja on Sunday, President of the Youth Wing of CAN, YOWICAN, Daniel Kadzai, pointed out that while the association had been standing up for the defence of Christianity, “the government’s disposition to some of the issues affecting Christians are not encouraging”.
He stated that the CAN President, Dr. Supo Ayokunle, “has been denied audience with the President to brainstorm on how best to solve some challenges in the country”, stressing that the Presidency had restricted CAN to media alone by shutting the door of meaningful consultation against its leaders.
“The Ayokunle-led leadership is poised to ensure that all Christians worship without fear or intimidation throughout the country. The man (Ayokunle) just took over the mantle of leadership and he met crisis on the ground. He is up and doing to stabilise the system to be able to address the common problems we are facing as a body.
“He has made several attempts to see the President of this country to table some challenges that have been bedevilling the nation and the challenges facing the Christendom. Unfortunately, the Federal Government of Nigeria is not willing to see the CAN President because of one reason or the others,” Kadzai stated.
He wondered why the CAN President would struggle to see the President of Nigeria for the peaceful coexistence in the country even in a democratic setting.
According to him, “CAN is not in contention with anybody. CAN is focusing on ensuring the liberty and freedom for its members to worship across the country.
“If CAN is coming out in the media to take a position on an issue, we are not addressing the media to incite our members, but only addressing the media to voice out the challenges facing our members throughout the country.”
Kadzai explained that he had gone to all places where attacks were carried out on Christian communities to obtain first-hand information, lamenting that the government was lackadaisical in its approach.
The YOWICAN President pointed out that some of the attacks were complicated as Christians were being killed under the guise of ethnicity and politics.

Ex-Senate President Nnamani emerges APC leader in Southeast

A former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, has been chosen as the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-East geo-political zone, comprising Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Abia and Ebonyi states.
The party in the zone has also resolved to support President Muhammadu Buhari for second term. The decisions were taken during a stakeholders’ meeting of the party held at the Imo International Convention Centre (IICC), Owerri, at the weekend.
In attendance were Ken Nnamani, Emeka Offor, Ifeanyi Araraume, George Moughalu, Tony Eze, Ebuka Onunkwo, Jombo Offor, deputy governor of Imo State, Eze Madumere, national organiser of the party, Senator Osita Izunaso and other members of the national working committee.
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State had said he declined the offer to lead the party in the zone despite pressure from many members of the party, proposing Nnamani as a suitable person.
Okorocha said: ‘’Now that Igbo leaders are together in APC, Nigerians will hear us. There is a vacuum of leadership in the South-East APC. I am a governor. My brothers, Chris Ngige and Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, are ministers. Hence, the importance of Ken Nnamani coming at this time. I decline the leadership of Ndigbo in APC. With Ken Nnamani, the question of who is the leader of APC in the South-East has been answered. Ken Nnamani is the leader of APC in the South-East.
“Senator Nnamani should then work with other leaders like Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Jim Nwobodo and a host of others to give Ndigbo political direction.”
‘’We are going to support President Buhari for the eight years he is going to lead the nation. This is the time for Ndigbo to come and work together. We are also going to use the Anambra election to show that APC has arrived in South-East. The Igbo played bad politics in 2015. Today, we have lost a lot.
We are not anywhere because of our bad politics,” he added. Speaking, Nnamani said the party needed more of the Igbo leaders at the ‘’national leadership of the APC where decisions are made, and even at the National Assembly and other strategic areas and levels.’’
He said: “Some of us going into APC are not doing so because of hunger, but in the interest of the Igbo. We should play politics of ideas, and avoid abusive words. Ndigbo do not have the ingredients for opposition politics. We do not have the media or business or money to play opposition politics, but we won’t ask for handouts.
‘’How the Yoruba voted in 2015 should be an eye-opener. They voted both sides, but the South-East put their eggs in one basket. I am not of the view that everybody should be in APC, but those have seen the need should do so. If Okorocha has realised that he needs more hands in APC, he should be commended. We are worst enemies of ourselves. If we work together we will go very very far. This is the time to play national politics.
“Some people could say we have the Deputy Senate President but he does not attend the meeting of APC caucus where important decisions are taken. We must think ahead. The benefit of that office is therefore personal and does not enhance the political fortunes of the South-East people.”

DSS invitation of Apostle Suleman in order – Presidency

The Presidency on Sunday said the invitation of the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleman, by the Department of State Services over inciting comment was in order.
He said the DSS did not have to wait for a presidential directive as being alleged in the social media before carrying out its duties.
A Presidency official told journalists this on the condition of anonymity.
He said for openly calling for the killing of Fulani herdsmen, all religious leaders be it Christian, Islamic or traditional ought to condemn the call and bring the pastor back to order.
“The decision of the DSS to invite the said preacher for talks this week over the statements he is reported to have made is in clear demonstration of the agency’s duty that does not require any kind of presidential directive as is being speculated on the Social Media.
“Anyone, especially leaders, who engages in such questionable conduct, ought to at least be asked a few questions. We just hope religious leaders will also at least call on the said pastor to behave in a Christ-like manner,” he said.
The official said while the government understood the emotional reactions arising from a breakout of violence, the country does not need a religious leader calling for more violence.
“Is CAN aware of this kind of statement? Is it in line with Christian conduct? Why haven’t there been a condemnation of this kind of criminal conduct? There is some understandable outrage about cases of violence in Southern Kaduna, yet this coming from a religious leader is certainly even more outrageous,” he said.

My invitation by DSS ludicrous, an after thought – Apostle Suleman

The General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has been summoned by the Department of State Services to appear at its Headquarters in Abuja.
Suleman is scheduled to visit the DSS on Monday.
The development was confirmed by the spokesman of the cleric, Phrank Shaibu, on Saturday, just as Suleman issued a statement denying that he hates Muslims and Fulanis.
The Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, had last week foiled an attempt by the DSS to arrest Suleman in his hotel room at Ado-Ekiti, where he had gone for a crusade.
Shaibu said on Saturday: “Yes, I can confirm to you that he (Suleman) was officially invited and as a law-abiding citizen, he will honour the DSS invitation on Monday.
“The invitation, though ludicrous and an afterthought, is a welcome development.”
Suleman in a statement on Saturday equally said: “I have friends as Fulanis. I have members as Fulanis in our northern churches.
“I have a driver who drives me whenever I am in Lagos, he is a Muslim. He has been driving me for years till date.
“I have bought him two cars as well. If I am not tolerant, a Muslim should not be driving me.
“I discovered that the Chief Security Officer (of our church) was also a Muslim. Yes, he was a Muslim supervising the security unit our church.

“Funny enough, majority of my callers on this issue have been Muslims; they have re-echoed what I said on the tape and do not hold contrary views about it.”
Suleman said killings by herdsmen must be tackled collectively to save the nation, adding that many of them were carrying out too many nefarious activities.
He said: “I do not have issues with the Fulani people; I have seen and read of some good people from there. I have also seen extremely nice Muslims.
“For example, the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is a Fulani man and also a Muslim. There was a church that was destroyed in his province, he personally rebuilt it.
“The Fulani people who are very enlightened understand the intricacies in this matter and most of them have been speaking with me.
“Whereas the herdsmen who are the perpetrators of this evil are happy with these developments because it has become a religious problem and this is part of my anger.
“There are still real Fulani herdsmen who are nomads and still taking care of their cattle everywhere.
“They carry sticks around. But these particular (killer) herdsmen carry guns, sophisticated weapons and the likes.
“I have made it clear that my anger is with the Fulani herdsmen and my point is; that no one should lay down to be killed by these people. Only cowards do that.
“And I stand my ground that the herdsmen who are killing should be dealt with.”

DSS plotting to detain Apostle Suleiman, Bishop Oyedepo – Gov. Fayose

The Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, Ayodele Fayose, has warned the Department of State Services over the planned detention and trial of Apostle Johnson Suleiman of the Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide and the General Overseer of Living Faith Church Worldwide International, popularly known as Winners’ Chapel International, Bishop David Oyedepo.
Fayose described the move by the DSS as an indirect invitation to religious crisis in the country.
Governor Fayose alleged: “There is plan to charge Apostle Suleiman and Bishop Oyedepo for incitement and attempt to cause public disorder on Friday, and make sure that they are not granted so to get them remanded in Kuje Prison perpetually.”
He said this plan was to humiliate these men of God as well as silence them and create fear in other people that may want to speak against the heinous crime against humanity being committed daily, while perpetrators are being shielded by the Federal Government.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said the DSS should tell Nigerians how many of the Fulani herdsmen that killed thousands of Nigerians across the country have been arrested before going after Nigerians who merely expressed their frustration over the to failure of the Federal Government to protect them.
The governor said: “Even though the DSS has allowed commonsense to prevail by properly inviting Apostle Suleiman as against the gestapo manner with which the service attempted to abduct him last week Wednesday, it is still questionable that the DSS is more interested in a man who threatened to defend himself against any attack by Fulani herdsmen rather than those herdsmen that murdered thousands of Nigerians.

“It is sad and worrisome that after muzzling opposition politicians, judiciary and the press, the APC led federal government has taking its desperation to suppress dissenting voices in the country to the House of God.
“If the DSS had acted swiftly like it is doing on Apostle Suleiman so-called inciting comments when people were being killed by herdsmen across the country, so many lives would have been saved.”
Fayose advised the government and the DSS not to go ahead with these plans as it will heat up the polity and threaten the peaceful coexistence of Nigerians, calling on well meaning Nigerians to prevail on the Federal Government to desist from acts capable of throwing the country into further crisis.
Governor Fayose, who reiterated his call for the release of the head of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, who has been in detention since late 2015 despite a court ruling that he should be released, affirmed that he “will continue to stand for Nigeria and its people, not for any religion and it is my position that rights of all Nigerians must be respected and protected”.
The governor urged the APC-led Federal Government to pay attention to the economy it destroyed, with the aim to revamping it and saving Nigerians from the hunger ravaging the land.
He said: “Nigeria is already being ravaged by war of hunger, economic recession, job loss and lack of leadership direction. It will be disastrous for the country to be plunged into religious crisis.
“Apart from during the civil war, Nigerians have not been badly divided as a nation as we are under the President Muhammadu Buhari administration. Killings under this government in 18 months are more than what was witnessed in the last 20 years.”

Ondo lawmakers suspend speaker, two others

The leadership of the Ondo State House of Assembly has been suspended and an acting Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Majority Leader have been elected.
Malachi Coker is now the Acting Speaker, Ayodele Arowele is Deputy Speaker while Olamide George is the Majority Leader.
The suspension followed an allegation by the House paymaster who was caught by members of the assembly with a sum of 15 million naira at the premises of the assembly complex.

When confronted, the paymaster said that he was acting on the instruction of the suspended Speaker, Jumoke Akindele, who ordered him to bring the money to her residence.
The House which eventually sat on Friday evening moved that the leadership under Jumoke Akindele had failed.
They agreed on her removal stating that they were not aware of the approval of the said sum of money by the House

92 Africans deported from US as Trump begins clampdown

Ninety nationals of Somalia and two Kenyans have been sent home from the United States of America.
This action may be sequel to the promise made Americans by new President, Donald John Trump.
The deportees arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Kenya, on Wednesday.
The deportees were said to have arrived at the airport at midday aboard Omni, an American Charter Airline.
The Somalis reportedly boarded a Juba Airways flight that left for Mogadishu, capital of Somalia, at 3pm.
According to Daily Nation, a Kenyan newspaper, sources at the airport were quoted to have said the travellers were accompanied by security officers from the US.

Zipporah Waweru, an official of Jomo Kenyatta airport, confirmed that there had been a plane carrying Somalis in transit to Mogadishu, but she could not confirm whether they were deportees.
“They have left and to me, they looked happy so I cannot for sure tell you that they were deported or not,” she said.
The deportees are the first set of Africans to be affected by the immigration policy of President Donald Trump, who has vowed to crack down on millions of immigrants in the US.
Trump had earlier disclosed his plans to sign executive orders which would lead to the imposition of visa ban on 7 predominantly Islam nations – three from Africa.
The countries targeted are Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

Gambia: Jammeh's four ministers resigned.

Foreign Minister Neneh Macdouall-Gaye
Gambia’s Ministers of Finance, Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Environment have resigned from President Yahya Jammeh’s government, according to report on Tuesday.
They all resigned as regional forces prepare to oust the veteran leader unless he steps down by Thursday.
Mr. Jammeh, in power since a 1994 coup, has become increasingly isolated at home and abroad after he refused to accept his December 1 defeat to opposition leader Adama Barrow.
The surprise loss was seen as a boost to democracy in the former British colony, which has had only two presidents since it gained independence in 1965.
But Jammeh’s defiance has sent the tiny West African country into crisis, causing government defections and opening up the prospect of military intervention by other countries in the region.
A senior Nigerian military source said Nigeria and other West African nations were prepared to intervene militarily to remove him if he remains in office after Wednesday, when his presidential mandate runs out.
“The chiefs of defence staff of West African countries met on Monday to discuss strategies on the best way to get Yahya Jammeh out if he refuses to hand over power,” said the Nigerian source, who declined to be identified.
“Some West African countries will be contributing troops, including Nigeria, for the operation,’’ said the source, adding that the United Nations and African Union had offered support to regional body ECOWAS for the plan.
According to Gambian state television on late Monday, Finance Minister Abdou Kolley was being replaced.
Ministry sources said other government leaders including Foreign Minister Neneh Macdouall-Gaye had left the government and the country.
Their departures follow the resignation of communications minister Sheriff Bojang last week.
The mayor of the capital Banjul has also resigned, according to sources at the city council.

UNN students lament as a Ltr of kerosene sells for N400

Some students of University of Nigeria, Nsukka have decried the exorbitant price of kerosene as a litre sells for N400 at filling stations.
The students in separate interviews with newsmen in Nsukka on Tuesday, described the situation as “unacceptable’’, saying it had made life more unbearable for them given the already hardship in the country caused by the economic recession.
Mr Uchenna Ngwu of the department of Political Sociology said that life had become more unbearable and challenging for students as they spent their feeding money to buy kerosene at N400 per litre to cook their food.
“Students are the worst hit because they cook their food with stove that is powered with kerosene.
“Government should urgently intervene to ensure that the price of kerosene returns to normal before students start dying of hunger as a result of lack of kerosene to cook with.
“Relevant government agencies should ensure kerosene marketers who sell the product above government price and their filling stations are sealed to serve as deterrent to others,” he said.
Miss Chidera Chime of the Department of Health Education urged government to put measures in place to alleviate the current hardship in the country due to the economic recession that had doubled the prices of goods in the market.
“Because of high cost of kerosene which I cannot afford to buy, I now resort to buying cooked food outside.
“Where I am feeling it much now is that I am being forced to take my bathe with cold water which I am not used to.
“I am pleading with the government to do something urgent to ensure that kerosene marketers sell the product at government official price considering the hardship Nigerians, especially students are going through,” she said.
Miss Peace Pius of the Department of Nursing Science said it had not been easy for her to buy kerosene at N400 per litre.
“I hardly eat outside; I like to cook for myself because if I eat outside I don’t feel satisfied.
“The two litres I bought on Monday was N800 and I feel bad while paying that money to the station attendant.
“Government should not be allowing marketers of petroleum products in this country to be holding Nigerians to ransom by selling at whatever prices they like,” she said.
In some filling stations visited in Nsukka town, only few independent and major marketers that had the product were selling a litre of kerosene at N400

Ekiti civil servant commits suicide over unpaid salary arrears

A senior civil servant with Ekiti State Government, Mr. Tope Afolayan, has committed suicide over alleged unpaid salaries and his inability to pay his huge debt, a reliable source confirmed.
Afolayan, a native of Oye-Ekiti, worked in the Office of the state Accountant-General.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that Afolayan, a level 10 officer, who died on Thursday, was survived by his wife and three children.
The source said that Afolayan was found hanging on the ceiling of his house, located on Peace Avenue, Olorunda, Ado-Ekiti.
He explained that the deceased was a final year student of Law at Ekiti State University and an interpreter in a branch of Christ Apostolic Church, Ekute area of Ado-Ekiti.
Afolayan, who had been buried, did not leave any suicide note, but the source said that the deceased had consistently complained to friends about the non-payment of his accumulated salary arrears.
He was said to have blamed his inability to pay his debts and perform his financial responsibility for the upkeep of his immediate family on the non-payment of his salary.
He said, “Although he didn’t leave any suicide note before hanging himself he had been very moody and heartbroken for a couple of weeks before the incident happened.
“He had been complaining about the debts he owed which he was unable to defray because of non-payment of the arrears of salaries.
“In fact, he was among the last batch of applicants for car loan given by government last year but his name did not come out.
“We are shocked by Afolabi’s death because nobody thought he would go to that extent, we are still mourning his death.”
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP. Alberto Adeyemi confirmed the incident.
Adeyemi said that the incident was reported at New Iyin Road Police Station in Ado Ekiti.

14 witnesses to testify against Justice Ademola, wife

No fewer than 14 witnesses are billed to testify against Adeniyi Ademola, a judge of the federal high court, and Olubowale, his wife, over alleged money laundering.
At the commencement of trial of Ademola and his wife, on Monday, prosecuting counsel, Segun Jegede, listed some of the witnesses as the Secretary of the National Judicial Commission (NJC) and the Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court at the time Ademola served as a judge.
Also Ifeoma Ofornagolu, sales consultant of Coscharis motors, and Shuaibu Sani, would also testify against the judge.
Sani is said to have given about N35 million to Justice Ademola so that he would not be sentenced to jail after he was charged for pension fraud.
The prosecuting counsel said a petitioner who had complained to the National Judicial Council (NJC) would also testify.
Ademola is alleged to have abused his office, by receiving bribe in millions of naira and a luxury car to divert the course of justice.
His home was among those of the seven judges raided by the department of state services (DSS) on allegations of corruption

Stop Magu from parading as EFCC chairman – Adegboruwa tells court

A lawyer and rights activist, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, has urged a Federal High Court in Lagos to restrain Ibrahim Magu from parading himself as acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In his new suit filed on Monday, Adegboruwa is also asking the Senate not to entertain any further request for the confirmation of Magu as EFCC Chairman.
The defendants in the suit are The Senate, the Attorney-General of the Federation, the EFCC and Ibrahim Magu.
In a 39-paragraph affidavit deposed to by Adegboruwa, he traced the appointment of Magu back to Nov. 9, 2015, contending that he had been functioning in acting capacity as EFCC Chairman, beyond the six months allowed by law.
Adegboruwa contended in his suit that since the Senate had rejected Magu as substantive chairman of EFCC, he could not thereafter be illegally functioning in acting capacity.
Citing the provisions of Section 2 (3) of the EFCC Act, Adegboruwa argued that the section makes confirmation by the Senate, a condition precedent to the appointment of the EFCC chairman.
He argued that since the provision of section 2 (3) of the EFCC Act was activated by forwarding the nomination of Magu to the Senate, he could not defy the decision of the Senate, which rejected him for the substantive appointment.
Adegboruwa stated that notwithstanding the clear decision of the Senate not to confirm Magu, he has continued to parade himself in office as EFCC Chairman.
He said that an example of such act was when he met with representatives of the United States Embassy on Jan. 6, 2017, clearly defying the decision of the Senate.
Adegboruwa is, therefore, asking the court to restrain the EFCC and all other authorities, from recognizing, treating or in any other manner, dealing with Magu as the Chairman of EFCC, either in acting or substantive capacity.
He also seeks a declaration that given his conduct in office so far, he is not a fit and proper person to function in office as chairman of EFCC.
Consequently, Adegboruwa is asking the court to give an order forthwith directing Magu to vacate and relinquish his office as EFCC Chairman, whether in acting or substantive capacity.
The lawyer also wants the court to declare void, all actions taken by the EFCC under the tenure of Magu, especially charges and information preferred in court.
No date has been fixed for hearing of the new suit.

Gambia President-elect Barrow’s son killed by dog

The son of Gambia’s President-elect Adama Barrow has died after being bitten by a dog.
Eight-year-old Habibou Barrow is reported to have died on the way to the hospital on Sunday in Manjai near the Gambian capital Banjul.
Mr Barrow missed his son’s funeral as he was advised to remain in Senegal for his safety.
Mr Barrow won the election last year but outgoing President Yayah Jammeh does not accept the result.
The regional body Ecowas had asked Mr Barrow to stay in Senegal until his inauguration planned for Thursday.
Mr Jammeh applied to the Supreme Court to stop the inauguration but the Chief Justice refused to rule on the issue.

Video: Jammeh begs Sirleaf, ECOWAS over court case

President of The Gambia, Yahya Jammeh, has made a recording of a phone conversation he had with the Chairperson of the Economic Community of West African States, Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, public.
In the video recording, Jammeh begged Sirleaf to convince other West African leaders to allow hired Supreme Court judges to travel to Banjul to hear his petition challenging the outcome of the presidential election.
Jammeh had in his bid to cling to power after 22 years as President of The Gambia rejected the outcome of the December 1 Presidential election, which was won by Adama Barrow.
ECOWAS had called on him to hand over power to Barrow, warning that he won’t be recognised as President of the country from January 19, the date Barrow is supposed to be sworn in as President.
Jammeh’s decision to record and make a private conversation public has been criticised by many.\

You can’t talk of 2019 when there’s no food on people’s tables – Atiku

Former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has criticised the current economic situation in the country, saying that it cannot be time for politicking when the people are hungry.
The former Vice President said this on Monday when he joined the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, to pay a condolence visit to the family of the late former Governor of Niger State, Engr. Abdulkadir Kure, in Minna.
Abubakar said the death of Kure is a personal loss.
When he was asked by newsmen how prepared he was for the 2019 elections, Abubakar said: “Who is talking about 2019 now when there is no food on the table?
“People are hungry.”
Abubakar said Kure was a friend, a colleague, a brother and a compatriot, adding: “His death is a personal loss to me.
“The kind of pious life he lived will definitely earn him Aljuanna fidau.”
Earlier, Saraki while speaking on the Boko Haram insurgency, said: “Fighting terrorism is not a thing that can end in one point‎, but the government will restore life back to the North Eastern part of the country.
“A lot of progress has been made in the country against insurgency.
“We have put mechanisms in place to stop them, even though there are sporadic attacks here and there, that will not stop us from doing what we are doing‎ to ensure that lives are protected.
“We will restore life back to the North East‎.
“Our military men should be congratulated on what they have achieved so far.
“Fighting terrorism is not a thing that can end in one point.
“There are processes that should be put in place to safeguard the lives of the people.”
Amongst those in the Senate team were the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu; former Governor of Ebonyi State, Senator Sam Egwu; former Governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Abdullahi Adamu; Senators Philip Ajuda, David Umaru, Mustapha Bello, Sabi Abdullahi; and the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Nuhu Gidado.

#BringBackOurGirls arrives Northeast on guided tour of Sambisa

The #BringBackOurGirls Group and a Federal Government delegation are in the North East to witness efforts by the military to rescue the remaining abducted Chibok School girls.
Before they left the Abuja airport, there was a mild drama as the group insisted that the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, boards the same aircraft with the BBOG delegation.
The initial plan was for the BBOG delegation to be conveyed to Yola alongside some journalists while the Minister will join another aircraft.
But that was turned down at the airport tarmac by the BBOG delegation, who insisted that none of their member will board the flight if the Minister is not joining them.
After a series of explanations, the Minister conceded to joining other participants in the same flight.
The government delegation also included the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar.
Meanwhile, on arrival at the Air Force Base in Yola, the Nigerian Air Force briefed on their operations so far.
The Commanding Officer, Air Vice Marshal Nurudeen Balogun explained that over two billion naira was spent in 2016 to ensure a functional air component of the Operation Lafiya dole.
Air Vice Marshall Balogun informed members of the #BringBackOurGirls group that efforts were on to find the remaining abducted Chibok schools girls and other persons, who were abducted by the Boko haram insurgents.
He added that the latest release of abducted persons was secured between January 7 and 12 and they have been handed over to the troop in Maiduguri.

We don’t want Ekweremadu in APC – Enugu chapter

The Enugu State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Sunday said it does not want Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, in the party.
Senator Kabiru Marafa, an APC senator from Zamfara State, had advised Ekweremadu, who represents Enugu West Senatorial Zone in the Senate, to defect to the APC if he must keep his seat as the Deputy Senate President.
He said, “I am telling you that he (Ekweremadu) has the opportunity now. Let him just defect. The beauty of any political party is the people. If you can join us, join us. We want more people. Instead of moving against his seat, let him join us.”
But the APC in Enugu State did not welcome Marafa’s call on Ekweremadu.
Speaking with journalists in Enugu, Publicity Secretary of the APC in Enugu State, Mrs Kate Offor, said the Deputy Senate President was not needed in the party.
Offor said Ekweremadu should remain in the PDP, which she said he (Ekweremadu) contributed in ‘destroying’.
The Deputy Senate President would be an unwelcome guest in Enugu State APC, should he decide to join the party, Offor stressed.
“Whatever is the position of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we want him (Ekweremadu) to remain in PDP.
“We wish to make it very clear that Ekweremadu is an unwanted guest in Enugu State APC.
“Let him stay and salvage the inferno festering in the PDP,” the Enugu State APC spokesperson said.
“We don’t want one party state,” she added.

When judgment comes upon the hangman

The cobwebs should have cleared from the eyes of anyone previously in doubt about the shady dealings of online hitman and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoleye Sowore, who was this week arrested over an alleged threat to life and blackmail of a London-based journalist, Lekan Fatodun. For those unfamiliar with Sowore’s activities, he is that chap that has been severally accused of desecrating the sanctity of the journalistic profession with his practice of cash for publication and blackmail.
He had remained beyond the reach of the law, criminal or civil, by strategically registering his operations in the United States where the victim of his blackmail and extortion racket find it difficult, if not impossible to bring lawsuits against him. The second layer of protection Sowore enjoys in peddling his tainted merchandise is the exploitation of the reader’s innocence that made him and his site, Sahara Reporters, appear like entities that are committed to exposing corruption. At such whenever the issue of his criminality is raised there is a horde on the ready to pour further abuses on his victims who are often accused of attempting to stifle freedom of expression by gagging the news site that exposes corruption.
However, this cannot be further from the truth. If Sowore’s Sahara Reporters is a whistleblowing anti-corruption platform then ISIS and Al-Qaeda are working for world peace. There have been several instances, discussed only in hushed tones since the victims are often themselves without blames, when stories are published after public office holders tried calling Sowore’s bluff.
There have also been allegations of damaging materials hitting the cyberspace even after the target of the smear campaign had previously “settled” but subsequently fails to outbid his political adversaries who paid more to have the material published. All these toxic stuff are lapped up by undiscerning readers, whose bitterness against the system does not allow them the reasoning capacity to ask probing questions about the veracity of what they read.
State institutions are not insulated in this high-level blackmail network.
The much needed journalistic role of beaming the searchlight on public entities is perverted and converted into an extortion racket such that the Chief Executives that refuse to “cooperate” are demonised while the credibility of their institutions are destroyed. It was a matter of time before the “boys” wised up and running online news sites became a money-spinning machine – like Sahara Reporters, foreign saboteurs are either financing the sites to undermine Nigeria or the publishers threaten people with the publication of documents if specific ransoms are not paid. That is definitely not a legacy to bequeath a nation’s new media space.
This party would have gone on without interruption had Sowore known to leave well alone. Dogs should not eat dogs but someone emboldened by successively blackmailing politically exposed persons can scarcely resist the temptation of trying to shake down a fellow ‘publisher’ in the hope of making further windfall from the famed armsgate money. He consequently made a false call on Lekan Fatodu who is the publisher of Checkout International Magazine.
Fatodu wrote on his Facebook wall, ”I just got Sowore Omoyele of Saharareporters arrested for criminal defamation and blackmail and threat to my life and career. Sowore lied against me that I was used as a front to receive N1.7 billion of the National Security Adviser’s funds. My refusal to agree to Sowore’s demands and cut from the fictitious money made him to viciously attack my personality on his website. And imagine this is someone I’ve known and I’ve been assisting for almost 20 years. We are still at the police station, and hopefully we be going to the court tomorrow.”
For the sake of fairness, which Sowore’s many victims never enjoyed, one must acknowledge that the Sahara Reporters’ publisher claimed that “After the police “intervened” soon as I was attacked by Lekan Fatodu and his friends in Lagos, we were taken to the (Commissioner of Police) CP’s office. It turned out that the CP was in on this, he pulled out a supposed petition written by Lekan from his hat after that he became very hostile towards me and ordered that we be driven to State CID, at Panti. It is obvious that this was planned between Lekan Fatodu and the police. ’’

A few things have been confirmed from the two accounts. One, Fatodu’s revelation has proven what has always been said about that scum publication. It exists only to arm twist politicians into parting with money. If Fatodu truly laundered the armsgate money for politicians and Sowore has the facts one would expect that he should hit the headlines with it or turn in the information to the EFCC.
Secondly, as some writers had claimed before, the New York address for both Sowore and Sahara Reporters is a scam. He allegedly sneaks into Nigeria, on a fortnightly basis sometimes, on a collection round since the blackmail money received in dollars has to be physically retrieved so that there would be no trail to trigger the interest of US law enforcement agencies.
Thirdly, it has now emerged that anyone that calls Sowore’s bluff faces more than the risk of having damaging contents published about them. They could also become targets of assassination as the complaint of threat to life that was lodged with the police has proven.
Additionally, familiarity or close relations with Sowore offers no protection when it is time for him to unleash blackmail. Not even 20 years of being kindred spirits can insulate one from his greed and if breaking the law would make his victim pay up so be it.
Furthermore, Sowore’s account of event has proven that whatever content the unfortunate readers of his site have consumed in the past years consist more of lies than truth. Whatever facts are included are intended to serve the kind of functions that colouring, sweetener and flavourings serve in junk food – to disguise the poor quality ingredients that make up the bulk of the sweet poison.
He simply went on to continue the aggression he has pursued against the Nigerian Police as an institution and even told a lie as ridiculous as “he (Commissioner of Police) pulled out a supposed petition written by Lekan from his hat”. Except Sowore wants to claim this was intended figuratively, what law enforcement officer will keep a petition on threat to life in his hat?
He accused the police of colluding with Fatodu. This was to be expected. Fortunately, there are positives. Fatodu is not a public official or the headline would have been that the government has clamped down on freedom of the press. His accuser is of the same ethnic extraction and possibly of the same faith so the other parochial excuses will not fly.
This hangman and professional character assassin has personally walked himself to judgment and the police must escort him to the dock. Some of his followers have sought to make light of the situation by bandying the phrase “civil case” around. Blackmail and threat to life are criminal matters not civil cases that should me subjected to mediation. The police will thus do well to resist the temptation of succumbing to pressure to order a mutual settlement between Fatodu and Sowore, whose countless victims should by this development gain the boldness to come forward and confidentially furnish information about how they were blackmailed in the past.
The time to act is now and giving this character a chance to explore his second strike capabilities would be disastrous not just for the media but for those he has threatened with any form of violence. It is time to retire this hangman. Owners of other sites that operate on his model should take this as notice of their retirement. He is a demon.
For Sowore, the noose he is in the habit of putting around his victims’ necks now tightens around him. That aura of invisibility has been dissipated and the true identity of the human behind the masquerade unveiled. Even if Sowore talks himself out of this Syrian bind of a mess the point has been proven that Sahara Reporters is not a ghost site and like every media outfit the organisation and the goons behind it are accountable for their deeds before law enforcement, in court and here on earth.
– Philip Agbese writes from Abuja.

Kogi youths celebrate return of controversial MMM Ponzi scheme

Some youths all around the Kogi state capital city of Lokoja on Saturday were at several beer parlours to celebrate the return of the controversial Mavrodi Mondial Movement (MMM)
The Ponzi scheme, banned in Russia where it originated, froze the accounts of 3 million Nigerian members in December, causing panic and anxiety.
The scam returned yesterday, a day before its initial comeback date of 14th January.
Most of the revellers were students of the state owned polytechnic in Lokoja.
They expressed surprise about the comeback of the pyramid money investment scheme, that promises players 30 per cent return, a day ahead of schedule.
Segun Ademola, a student, said he had invested over N300,000 in his MMM account.
He said he was glad to have the operation bounce back. He has a lot of high hopes, that he would reap his investment.

“I am the happiest person on earth today, God bless Mavrodi,” he said.
Fola Owobo, another student, said she used her school fees to provide help to some other person she did not know at all.
She said she was confused when the scheme was shut down on 13 December 2016.
She was relieved now that the MMM was back in operation.‎
Michael Olubola, another student said he has learnt a lesson. He said as soon as he collects his money, he would ‎never try providing help again.
He said he almost had hypertension in the last four weeks.
He urged his colleagues to shun free money and embrace hardwork.
He said the free money promised by MMM almost caused him his life.
Yet another student, Wunmi Atte, said ‎she was convinced that the MMM was a fraud.
“Sooner or later it would fold up”, she said, as she wondered where the scheme gets the money it promises members.

Fraud on Instagram worries FCT residents

Some residents of the Federal Capital Territory on Saturday expressed concern over the rise in use of Instagram, a social media platform to defraud unsuspecting users.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the platform, which is popularly used to connect friends and family by sharing personal photos and videos on the internet has gradually become an avenue for business activities.
Large-scale businesses have used the site to showcase goods and services available for sale inspiring start-up entrepreneurs to follow suit with an online market that does not require an official website or established shop.
However, the business concept has been observed to have been soiled by individuals creating fake business accounts to acquire money from users fradulently.
Some of the residents, who spoke to NAN, claimed to had fallen victim to some of the fake business accounts available on the social media website.
Miss Hope Idemudia, a Nigerian youth service corps member serving in Abuja, said that she had lost a lot of money to the owner of a fake business account on Instagram.
“Instagram is known to be a market place, where people market themselves and their products so it’s not just for making friends and sharing pictures with social circles.
“There are a number of accounts I have successfully purchased goods from and I got the orders in perfect condition.
“However, the last order I placed was highly unsuccessful, causing me a loss of N24,000 and I was very bitter about it.
“I came across an Instagram account known as @Empire_ladies_store which like other accounts looked very legitimate and I decided to order for clothes and shoes.
“I paid the money as requested and I still haven’t received my goods up til this very moment.

The account owner stopped picking my calls and responding to my messages after that,” she said
Miss Tosin Oloruntoba, an entrepreneur said she had come across a number of fake business accounts that she almost fell victim to.
“The Instagram business pages have become very popular and it seems to be odd if you’re a business owner and you don’t have a business page on Instagram.
“Many of these sellers prove their legitimacy by posting pictures of feedback from customers they have deals with in the past and having people review their goods.
“I require the same for my business pages and I came across a business page called @dressupclothier which had thousands of posts and followers so I believed the page was legitimate.
“I placed an order for shoes that I was to give as gift to my daughter and I never received them.
“I knew I was scammed when the owner refused to answer my calls, but always read my messages in Whatsapp without replying.
“I am just saddened by the fact that these scam artists will destroy the reputation of other businesses that are actually legitimate.”
George Ogba, an accountant, said “it is sad that these people are committing such crimes and there really isn’t anyway to directly block their accounts from the public as the account has to be reported to Instagram first.”
“As much as we try to trust our fellow Nigerians, there are bad people who are making that impossible by committing these grivious crimes so we have to stop acting naïve.
“There is no reason why you should make payments for a commodity you have not seen or received, although it has worked with many other legitimate accounts.
“If you want to purchase something online, ensure you are protecting yourself by having a middle man of some sort or ensure you pay for the commodity on delivery,” he said.

Ondo APC group rejects ambassadorial nominee

The nomination of Mr. Igbekele Jabobs Daudu for the position of non-career ambassador from Ondo State has been rejected by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
A group within the party, Movement Against Imposition (MAI) yesterday alleged that Igbekele Daudu worked for the Alliance for Democracy in the last governorship election.
Recall that Daudu’s name has been used to replace Sola Iji, who was the former State Chairman of the Action Congress (AC) on the new list submitted to the Senate for confirmation.
The coordinator of the group in the state, Austin Pelemo, while addressing reporters at a press briefing in Akure, the state capital said President Mohammadu Buhari, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and other leaders of the party must intervene in the issue.
Pelemo said “a man that is known across the state to be a member of Alliance for Democracy can never be allowed to take a position that is meant for a member of the APC
“It is an act that must be resisted by all members of the APC in the state
“A name came up yesterday as an ambassadorial designate from Ondo state, Jacobs Daudu, we later got to know that he is the same Igbekele Daudu, as we speak, Mr. Igbekele Daudu, is not a member of the APC in the state,” Pelemo said.

A leader of the group, Saka Yusuf Ogunleye, alleged that Igbekele was involved in anti–party activity during the last governorship election in the state.
Yusuf said, “I am a member of the state excos of this party, Jacobs Daudu joined our great party one week to the Presidential election, after serving six years in governor Olusegun Mimiko administration
“After the party primary, the man left for the AD, when President Buhari came here to canvass for vote for our governor–elect, Igbekele Daudu was with Olusola Oke canvassing for votes for him
“We realized that there must be discipline in our party and that Jacob Daudu must be disciplined for anti-party activities and not that he should be compensated for anti-party activity
“In APC, we want to demonstrate to the whole world that we have discipline and that is why we will not allow this Igbekele’s nomination to stand
“We are now appealing to the President, a man of discipline and high integrity, a leader of the party, Muhammadu Buhari, and we are appealing to the national chairman of our party, John Odigie Oyegun, national leader of our party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, and the three Senators from Ondo state not to encourage indiscipline in our party”.

Obasanjo begs Awujale, invites Oba Adetona to commission mosque in library

Former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has apologised to the paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, over his choice of words in his letter to the Awujale to debunk allegations levelled against him in the autobiography of the monarch titled: ‘Awujale: The Autobiography of Alaiyeluwa Oba S. K. Adetona, Ogbagba II’.
Recall that Obasanjo had accused the respected monarch of being a peddler of falsehood and a rumourmonger in his letter dated December 30, 2016 and addressed to the traditional ruler.
This follows an unpleasant remark about Obasanjo and his alleged use of Nuhu Ribadu’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to witch-hunt and extort Globacom Chairman, Dr Mike Adenuga, during his tenure as President.
But to douse the tension being generated by the negative publicity their face-off was getting, the former president put a call across to the Awujale on Thursday January 5 to make peace with the Ijebu monarch.

A reliable source very close to Obasanjo, who confirmed the telephone conversation between the two friends, told Saturday Sun that: “Baba Obasanjo pleaded with the Awujale not to allow the media come in between them”.
After pleading with the monarch to sheathe his sword, the ex-president then invited the monarch to honour him with his presence at the commissioning of a new mosque built within the premises of his Presidential Library in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital on February 11.
“I overheard the Awujale expressing concern over what he would tell the media if they ambush him to answer some questions on their relationship at the event, but Baba Obasanjo assured him that he would handle the media well that day,” the source was quoted as saying.

Nigeria’s deadly monsters [II]

In his book titled “Concerning the Government of Our Country and Neighboring Countries in the Sudan”, Nigeria’s first Mahdi, Sheik Usman Dan Fodio, who is the father of the Fulani Caliphate and leader of the 1804 jihad that overwhelmed and conquered what is now known as northern Nigeria wrote:
“The government of a country is the government of its king without question. If the king is a Muslim, his land is Muslim; if he is an unbeliever, his land is a land of unbelievers. In these circumstances it is obligatory for anyone to leave it for another country”.
Could this strange and primitive rationale be the reason for the creeping attempt to wipe out Christianity, destroy the Church, slaughter Christians, Islamise the faithful and enslave the people of the south and Middle Belt in our country today?
Could this be the ethos and philosophical bedrock and foundation of the imperative of Islamic domination and Fulani rule? Have we finally discovered the intellectual Holy Grail of Fulani raison d’etra?
This brings me to a number of other questions which many harbour but few dare to ask.
The southern region of Nigeria has not had a Chief Justice of the Federation in 30 years and now that one has been nominated by the National Judicial Council our core northern President Muhammadu Buhari has simply refused to confirm him. The question may be asked, what is the south’s portion in Nigeria?
Such is the suspicion, bedlam and utter turmoil in our nation today that some are of the view that the solution to the problems of Nigeria is not just restructuring but a total break up of the country.
They believe that restructuring may be a good first step but the final destination has to be a total and complete break up and divorce.
They argue that this can he done peacefully and quietly or it will eventually be done violently and in a very messy way.
They say that the sooner we do it the easier it will be and that the longer we delay it the more messy it will be.
Whether one agrees or disagrees with them one thing is clear: we are sitting on a keg of gunpowder and we ALL know it.
It is just that we like to pretend. The bottom line is this: things cannot go on the way they are.
Some believe that we should let the four “liberal” zones (south-west, south-south, south- east and north-central) come together and form one nation and let the north-west and north- east zone either go and merge with Chad and Niger Republic or form their own country.
They argue that we should let the Christians, the Shiite Muslims and the core northern ethnic minority tribes that presently live in the north- east and north-west, if they wish, to relocate, move to the Middle Belt (north-central) and remain with us in Nigeria.
Interestingly this mass relocation and migration process was executed in India when she broke into two and Pakistan was formed just after she got her independence from the British.
Millions of Muslims who resided in India moved north to the other side of the country that was to be later called Pakistan whilst millions of Hindus who resided in the area that was to be later called Pakisan relocated from there and moved all the way south to the area that continued to be referred to as India.
Given the terrible carnage that took place between the Hindus and the Muslims in India before the break-up the whole thing worked rather well and saved millions of lives.
This was the case even though there were three border wars between the two countries not too long after the division and tensions exist between them until today.
Yet had it not been for the break-up the number of casualties would have been far higher and the victims of the fratricidal butchery which took place would have been primarily the civilian population, including women and children, rather than just the soldiers.
Some believe that we in Nigeria must take a cue from the Indian, and later Sudanese, examples. They believe that we must break Nigeria into two before we kill each other to the last man and woman.
They believe that it is either we negotiate this and let it be done in an equitable, reasonable, respectful and orderly manner or we will end up having a violent, brutal, bloody and long ethnic war in this country which will result in the final balkanisation and break up of Nigeria into no less than four or more pieces.

Whichever way we cannot be compelled to stay in a nation that is controlled by our collective oppressors and those that believe that killing others that do not share their faith or belong to their ethnic group or religious sect for much longer.
They have sucked the nations blood dry and killed the host body that they have fed fat on for the last 56 years.
They have killed the spirit of Nigeria and sacrificed her unity on the alter of greed, hate, religious intolerance, political domination and false notions of ethnic supremacy.
Their hegemony is an affront to the Living God and it stands against the natural order of things.
It is time for them to go or to be thrown out.
It is only after this happens that we can achieve our full potentials as a nation and that our people can be truly blessed.
Those that control the country and believe that they own it will NEVER allow restructuring because it defeats the object of their purpose.
Given that, it is very clear that we are heading for the rocks because the generation of southern and Middle Belt Nigerans that come after mine refuse to accept the notion that they are nothing but glorfied slaves and second class citizens.
My generation and those that came before it were far more ready to compromise with the evil, accept that bogus notion and just contiue to hope for the best.
The result is that we are still waiting and hoping whilst the grip of our internal colonial masters and their power is greater today than it has EVER been.
Meanwhile thousands of southerners, Shiite Muslims, Middle Belters and northern Christians have been slaughtered at the altet and are being butchered by the sponsored ethnic militias that are known as the Fulani herdsmen. One must ask, how long are we going to continue watching this evil silently and just keep hoping for the best?
This sort of thing can only happen in Nigeria. If people had been subjected to such barbarity and wickedness in any other country in the world there would have been international outrage and violent reactions long ago. Yet in Nigeria we respond to it with nothing but indifference and silence in the name of political correctness. It is truly pathetic.
The truth is that this “political correctness” will kill us if we dont kill it first. We must be prepared to say the things that we say to one another behind closed doors publicly as well.
The country needs a dose of truth to heal its wounds and it also needs focused, strong, honest and decisive leadership. Those that believe that they were born to kill us at will and rule us in perpetuity must either accept that they are not our ethnic masters and stop all this barbarity or they must go.
The truth is that the whole country is ready to explode. We the older men are the ones that are just still talking. The younger ones stopped talking long ago and now they are preparing for war.
I have travelled to many parts of this country in the last few weeks and months and what I saw and heard scared me. And I dont scare easily. We must try to keep a lid on it and talk our way out of this mess before the bullets start flying and reason and rational thinking goes out of the window.
Those that believe that they own Nigeria are the greatest obstacle to national cohesion and no one else. The rest of us can work out our differences, keep our four zones, devolve power from the centre and establish a 21st century secular modern nation-state where we are all equal, where the rule of law prevails and where islamic fundamentalism and ethnic domination has no place.
We must also work out our differences in the south. It is the division amongst the southerners that feeds and fuels core northern hegemony. We must all make concessions and set our differences aside and come together as one againt our collective adversaries.
If we cannot do that and we allow historical differences and rivalries to abide and flourish then frankly we deserve to remain as the slaves that they have turned us into. Let us hope that good reason prevails and that we make the right choices.
Let us hope that we are guided by God and His Holy Spirit in all our endeavours. Let us hope that we can muster the courage to say “no more” to ethnic and religious cleansing, mass murder, bondage, servitude and tyranny.

Nigeria Army prepare 800 troops for Gambia.

A Nigerian army memo orders officers to prepare a battalion of 800 troops for a possible military intervention in Gambia, where the longtime leader has refused to accept his election loss and step down.
West Africa’s regional bloc, the Economic Community of West African States, has said it has a standby military force ready to enter Gambia if President Yahya Jammeh does not cede power when his mandate expires next Thursday. Jammeh, who has ruled since he took power in a 1994 military coup, is challenging his Dec. 1 loss.
The Nigerian memo dated Wednesday and seen by The Associated Press is signed by the chief of army staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, and describes the force as ECOMIG, or ECOWAS Mission in Gambia.
Army spokesman Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman denies Nigeria’s military is readying such a force.

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari led a regional delegation to Gambia on Friday to try to persuade Jammeh to step down. Nigerian legislators have voted to allow Buhari to offer asylum to Jammeh as the region seeks a peaceful solution to the crisis.
The West African regional bloc has said the standby force would be led by Senegal, which almost completely surrounds Gambia.
Gambia, with just 1.9 million people, had an army of just 900 troops as of 2013, according to the South Africa-based military news site defenceWeb.
Nigeria’s memo indicates the 800 troops will come from different battalions. That is probably because Nigerian security forces already are stretched, fighting Boko Haram’s Islamic uprising in the northeast and deployed against oil militants in the south and separatists in the southeast.

APC set to hold national convention after two years

Barring any last minute change of plans, the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) will hold its national convention in the first quarter of this year.
The governing party has proposed February for holding the long-awaited convention.
One of the many issues slated for deliberation, it was gathered, is the amendment of the party’s constitution.
It was learnt that some party stakeholders insist that some parts of the constitution will have to be reviewed and modified in line with best practices and to treat some contentious issues it had failed to clearly define and resolve.
An insider revealed that the party’s national vice chairman (North West), Inuwa Abdul-Kadir, has been appointed the secretary of the Constitution Review Committee to receive and collate suggestions and recommendations which will eventually be deliberated on at the convention.
It was also gathered that there are subterranean moves by some influential interests in the party’s national leadership to endorse President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term.
It was reported at the end of last year that the party did not hold its national convention as the case should be after every two years, in violation of the provisions of its constitution.

Article 25 (A)(i) of the APC constitution states that the national convention of the party shall be held once in two years at a date, venue and time to be recommended by the National Working Committee (NWC) and approved by the National Executive Committee (NEC) subject to the giving of the statutory notices to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and at least 14 days’ notice to members eligible to attend.
The party’s national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, had in an interview promised that the party would hold its national convention in 2016, but that did not happen owing to various challenges the party faced.
Oyegun had said, “We have to amend the constitution. We want to have a convention to approve the amendment of the constitution. The convention will take place within the next three months. The revision of that aspect of the constitution is ready. Notices will go out very soon. So, there is no magic to it. We just want to do things that will be effective; things that will contribute maximally to the party and governance.”
The party’s convention is the avenue to ratify its policies and programmes; elect or remove national officers; elect its presidential candidate, and amend its constitution from time to time as the need may arise.
