Kabba/Bunu PDP youth Congratulates Hon T. J Yusuf on another 365 days in office

I wish to on behalf of the entire PDP youth of Kabba/Bunu local government congratulate the member representing Kabba/Bunu-Ijumu Federal Constituency on his legislative resourcefulness in the last 365 days of the 9th National Assembly. 

Your impact on your constituents and the entire constituency, both in social, human and infrastructural development is highly applauded. 

It is true that a good democratic representative is not likely to be approved by, or even appreciated by, every one of her constituents, let alone by all citizens. Thus my claim is not that a good democratic representative will be valued by every citizen (or even a majority of citizens); rather, my claim is that a good democratic representative, who you are has been the unbridled advocate of her your constituents.

I want to use this medium to show our profound appreciation for your thoughtfulness and prompt responses at every given time of need. 

We as youth pray that God Almighty will grant you good health and sound mind in discharging your duties and responsibilities in further enhancing the growth and development of the youth of the constituency.

ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE NINTH ASSEMBLY: NOTE OF GRATITUDE!

Life is measured in times and season. Everything about humanity, living and activities are driven by times and season. Today, June 11th, 2020 marks the first year anniversary of the four years mandate given to me by the good people of Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency to be their servant and representative at the Federal House of Representatives.

The Holy Book in 1 Chronicles 16:8-9 counsel on the imperative of thanksgiving, “give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples!” Also, an unknown social–psychologist wrote that, “appreciating and thanking a person, people, group, institution for every good deed is the impetus needed for more, practical bonding between and amongst these publics for the realisation and extension of purpose, focus and objective; for common good.”

Indeed, the last one year has being the most traumatic and challenging period of my life. However, it has also been the most revealing, soothing and re-assuring time for me. Barely few months, after my inauguration as your Representative on June 11th, 2020, I lost my very dear wife; Titilayo Ayo-Yusuf. It was during this period of pain, shock and sorrow that I experienced unbelievable and unimaginable quantum of love, support and comradeship from the good people of Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency. The immeasurable concern and depth of love extended to me by Traditional Rulers, Political Leaders, Elites, Women, Youth, Groups, Societies and diverse spectrum of people from Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, remains precious in my heart. It was a rare demonstration of unparalleled affection that will be indelible and cherished by me for a long time.

Similarly, since my initial outing as your Representative in 2011, and more importantly, from the commencement of the 9th Assembly in June 2019, the good people of Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency have extended unusual love and uncommon support to me. I am most humbled and grateful that, not minding my imperfections as human, I have continually benefited from the collective trust and electoral franchise of the good people of Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency.

For all these and more, I wish to use this medium to express my profound gratitude and sincere appreciation. For all your love, support, prayers, good wishes and understanding, I say a massive Thank You! It is my earnest prayers that Almighty God shall bless you all, Amen.

Perhaps, if there are individuals, people or groups that may have being aggrieved by some of my actions or decisions, I plead your forgiveness. However, I wish to state with utmost sincerity, that whatever area(s), act(s) or action(s) taken by me or error(s) noticed may have arisen from my consistent passion and sustained commitment to the general good of our very dear Federal Constituency.

Permit me to at this juncture, abreast you of the modest achievements recorded in the last one year (June 2019-June 2020).

❖ Summer School Studies for Secondary School Students in Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency

❖ Strategic Empowerment Grants for Artisans (Mechanics, Panel Beaters, Blacksmiths, Welders)

❖ Scholarship Awards to Secondary School Students in Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency

❖ Public sensitisation, distribution of food items and hand sanitizer to constituents during the COVID-19 pandemic

❖ Agricultural Training and stipends for Women and Youths

Finally, as I affirm to be a good and worthy ambassador of our Federal Constituency, I wish to reiterate that I will continue to offer resourceful, responsible and responsive representation to Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency.

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has condemned the Wednesday's robbery attack on commuters along the Lokoja-Abuja highway which led to some casualties.

The governor while expressing sadness over the incident which led to the death of Mr Nicholas Ofodile, a popular businessman in the state as well as one other person during a cross fire between the armed robbers and men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), vowed that the perpetrators will be brought to book.

Bello in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Onogwu Muhammed commiserated with the immediate family of the deceased and the entire Igbo community in the state over the sad incident. The governor described late Nicholas Ofodile as a law-abiding successful entrepreneur who was known for his hard work and commitment

The governor while commending men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad for prompt response directed all the security agents in the state to immediately swing into action to apprehend those behind the dastardly acts.

He assured the people of the state that his administration would not relent in its efforts of providing adequate security within and around the state.

Bello said the criminal elements who are trying to stage a come after the deadly blow done to them since he assumed power, vowed that he would not allowed them a foothold in the state.

Isanlu Carnage: Olowodola Task Security Operatives To Apprehend Culprits

Isanlu Robbery & carnage, Olowodola commiserate with victims, task security operatives to apprehend culprits

Prominent philanthropist and community leader, Elder Benjamin Olowodola has commiserated with His Excellency the Governor of KOGI state, Alh Yahaya Bello, Nigeria Police, Senior Special Assistant on Security to the Governor in Yagba East, Agbana of Isanlu, the entire Isanlu community and the families of the victims of the unfortunate Isanlu First bank robbery and attack on the Nigeria Police station.

The elder statesman who described the act as heinous, senseless and criminal says the only thing that can assuage the unfortunate carnage is for the perpetrators to be apprehended and justice rightly served. Elder Olowodola notes that although such incidents have happened in the past but, it was already becoming history since the coming on board of the Yahaya Bello led administration until this very sad and despicable act happened. He says the security operatives therefore must be in desperate search of the murderers in order to nip such occurrence in the bud. He charged the security operatives to trace the identity and address of the detainees who were freed as they surely must have links with the perpetrators of the despicable crime.

*It is very unfortunate that the relative peace and security our hinterlands have enjoyed has been threatened by this wicked act, at a time we are all forgetting the experience of the past, the robbers have brought us to a sad reminder of it, but instead of us to despair or be frightened, I encourage us to collaborate with security operatives by giving useful information that can lead to the arrest of all criminal elements engaging in such act. We are indeed sad that harmless and helpless citizens were massacred, security agents killed in line of duty and precious investment destroyed. He also stated that community efforts at being security conscious enough to report suspicious persons is very well needed at this time. He however appealed to government and spirited individuals to come immediately to the aid of the people by rebuilding the destroyed bank and police station in order to forestall economic collapse the incident might cause for the community.

Group cautions NASS against rescinding its resolution on NASC conditions of service

A civil group, Civil Society Coalition for Parliamentary Reforms (CSPR) has alleged attempts by the ninth National Assembly to alter the resolutions of the eighth Assembly on the conditions of service of staff of National Assembly Service Commission (NASC).

This is even as the group stated that tampering with the resolution without due process could amount to constitutional infringement.

Addressing newsmen on Saturday in Abuja, the convener of the group, Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi said that there are efforts to undermine the laid down rules for what he called pecuniary reasons.

While maintaining that any hasty move to tinker with the new condition of service that extends the retirement age of parliamentary staff from 35 to 40 is illegal, Mr. Adeyemi threatened that the group will not hesitate to take legal actions against the National Assembly leadership.

"The Civil Society Coalition for Parliamentary Reforms (CSCPR) is deeply concerned with the impunity at which the legal frameworks by which we are governed as a country are being altered for pecuniary reasons especially at the most important arm of Nigeria's democratic experience. Law and order is what distinguishes us from lesser beings. Unfortunately, an attempt to scavenge an escape route for laws we do not find favourable is to say the least preposterous and the temptation to alter it in contravention to the laid down rule is nothing but an undemocratic attempt that is capable of derailing our democratic journey .

"CSCPR is worried that the latest of such illegal moves is the way and manner certain persons in the 9th National Assembly wants to bulldoze into tampering with the resolution of the 8th NASS on the National Assembly Service Commission’s condition of service, particularly the clause extending their retirement age from 35 to 40. We are shocked that of all reformatory amendments effected on NASC condition of service, some external forces have singled out the new retirement age as a subject of concern.

"Elementary knowledge teaches that government is a continuum. It is unconstitutional, illegal and indeed an injury on our democracy to contemplate tampering with this clause or disregard the provisions after it was jointly passed by both chambers of National Assembly" he said.

He also added that the group will not fold its hands and watch the gains made over the years in the legislature destroyed even as he reiterated that all avenues are being explored to deepen the country's democratic culture.

He alleged that there are attempts by eggheads in the ninth National Assembly to reward political loyalist with public office against the general interest of Nigerians are the parliament in particular.

"At a time all avenues are being explored to deepen the root of our democratic culture, we cannot afford to fold our arms to watch the gains made over the years in the legislature destroyed in our very eyes or allow vested interests to override the spirit and letters of the law. The implication of this is that all enactments of the 9th Assembly are at the mercy of those that will come after it. No country moves forward with such anachronistic impunity.

"We are not oblivious of interests at the 9th NASS that have concluded arrangements to use public offices to reward political loyalists, an attempt that will kill motivation, derail the system and most obviously erode the reservoir of parliamentary service experience gathered over the years. It is important to state that neither the clerk of the National Assembly (CNA), Alhaji Mohammed Sani Omolori nor any of the first phase of about 150 NASC staff has been alleged to have committed infractions in the course of performing their duties. If indeed there is, such persons should be identified and made to account for their actions and not to resort to crude means to disparage a resolution legally made.

"We wish to let the world know that CSCPR will not hesitate to take legal actions to ensure that our laws are obeyed to the later irrespective of who it favours or not" he said.

Earlier, a public affairs analyst, Mojeed Dahiru told SGTV that the legislative arm of government is distinctive among others, adding that it requires stability to enjoy its independence.

A letter signed by the Clerk House of Representatives, Patrick A. Giwa and addressed to the Chairman, National Assembly Service Commission sighted by SGTV partly read, "The entire leadership of the House of Representatives cannot rescind the 8th Assembly resolution on the retirement age of National Assembly Staff and;

"Therefore the House of Representatives maintains the position of the 8th Assembly as contained in the conditions of service jointly passed by that Assembly.

"Above is for your information and guidance. This supersedes any other earlier letter on this subject matter please".

DELAY IN CONFIRMING MRS. UDUK MARY JOSEPH AS SUBSTANTIVE DIRECTOR GENERAL OF SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION  INEXCUSABLE

The Coalition of Media and Civil Society Groups for Good governance, a group of think-tank pan-Nigerians is worried over the delay that has characterised the confirmation of Uduk Mary Joseph as the substantive Director General of Securities and Exchange Commission where she has been on acting capacity since April 2018. 

We are also concerned over desperate efforts by powers that be to scheme her out on no other ground than her minority ethnic background. This is condemnable as it is despicable and anachronistic, such attempt if not quickly arrested portend danger to the motivation of public servants accross the country. It qualifies as an attempt to further stick a knife in our fragile unity and also a sad reminder to the disdain with which the Niger Delta region has been treated like an orphan in a nation they have made enormous sacrifices to build. We strongly believe that Nigeria’s development has been stunted on the ground of ethnicity and religious considerations.  

Our demand for her immediate confirmation is a patriotic move to further lend our support towards consolidating on the reformatory initiatives she has brought into the system over the years. Our call for her immediate confirmation will also provide a veritable platform for the President, Muhammadu Buhari to purge himself of perceived ethnic and religious jingoism that has brought about lopsided appointments in his cabinet in the past 5 years. At a time when the campaign for women inclusiveness and affirmative action is at its peak globally, failure to confirm Uduk Mary Joseph the substantive Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission will be a collective assault on our hard working, resourceful and productive women.

Most importantly, at a time when our economy is at crossroad birthed by the devastating effects of COVID-19, the consequence of sacrificing her decades of gainful experience on the altar of tribal consideration will further strain the strength of our economy. 

This is a woman who is not just young but vibrant to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of her fatherland. This is a woman who in the past three decades has spent her entire career contributing and leading efforts on protecting investors and developing a capital market that facilitates the development of our economy. 

In Uduk Mary Joseph is a woman who oversaw the review of application for the first supranational bond floated in Nigeria by a multinational organization, International Finance Corporation (IFC) and closely followed by the African Development Bank (AfDB). 

Among other strategic initiatives under her leadership as the acting DG of the Commission is the continuous implementation of the initiatives of the Capital Market Master Plan which includes the electronic Dividend Mandate System (E-DMMS), Direct Cash Settlement, Regularisation of Multiple Subscription, Non-interest Capital Market and others.

Under her leadership, the Commission has witnessed a development of roadmap for a vibrant Commodities Trading Ecosystem and ongoing implementation of same. Between 2018 and now, the Commission has gone into collaboration with the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) on the infusion of capital market studies into the curriculum of basic and senior secondary schools. 

Uduk Mary Joseph has an enviable track record of excellent performance. They are there and even the blind can visibly see her legacies in the Commission. As part of her vision to engender transparency in the system, the Commission is currently in collaboration with the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) to strengthen the integrity of the market by frontally combating Ponzi Schemes, insider dealing, cybercrime and other fraudulent activities in the capital market. 

It is also imperative to state that while we admit that it is the prerogative of the President to appoint whom he deems fit to work with, appointments into key positions must represent the multiplicity of Nigeria’s ethnic and religious linens. Akwa Ibom as the goose that lays the golden egg in oil production in Nigeria ironically only has two appointments – Sen. Ita Enang, SSA to the President on Niger Delta and Umana O. Umana – Managing Director, Oil and Gas Free Zone. 

The President must not give Nigerians the reason to believe that the prediction by the former military governor of Kaduna state, Abubakar Umar that his slanted appointments will destroy Nigeria could come to pass. 

We call on President Muhammadu Buhari to do the needful, forward the name of Mrs. Uduk to the National Assembly for confirmation.

BLACK THURSDAY IN ISANLU COMMUNITY.

With a heavy heart and deep concerns, I wish to use this medium, on behalf of the people of Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, to commiserate with the people of Isanlu community, in particular, and  the entire Yagba East LGA  over the unfortunate and dastardly armed robbery incident which led to the painful death of a number of innocent people, as well as men of the Nigerian Police Force.

Indeed, the sad and shocking incident which occurred on Thursday, June 4th, 2020, will go down in history as a Black Day not only for the people of Isanlu,and Yagba East LGA, but the entire Okunland, Kogi West, and Kogi state.

It is shocking that a group of people with evil minds and devilish attitudes will carry out such a cruel, barbaric and animalistic action on a community known for hard work, peace and unity. The heinous crime which led to the death of some indigenes, residents of the community, as well as law enforcement agents is outrightly callous, inhuman and vicious wickedness at it's zenith.

Personally, it was very difficult for me to hold back tears, while watching the short video of the collosal damage, reign of terror and pain meted on the casualties and the entire community. I am terribly sad, angry and shocked by such audacious and unimaginable disregard and disrespect for human lives by these demon possessed charlatans.

As I join numerous others to identify with and comiserate with the entire people of Isanlu community and Yagba East LGA, over this painful incident, I pray that God Almighty will stretch forth His hand of protection and preservation over the entire community. It is my sincere prayers that such negative incident shall never happen again in Isanlu  community, Yagba East LGA, and the entire Okunland, Amen.

Finally, I wish to call on the Kogi state Government, the Nigerian Police Force and other relevant security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators of this nefarious and heinous crime are arrested, in good time, to face necessary prosecution and judgement.

Isanlu Robbery Attack: Chief David Aiyedogbon(Charvid) condoles families of deceased

Philanthropist and bussiness magnate, Chief David Aiyedogbon(Charvid) has expressed his heartfelt condolence with People of Yagba East, Ijumu, Okun and all other people who have lost their loved ones, in the dastardly and unfortunate incident on Thursday Armed Robbery attack in Isanlu Yagba East LGA of Kogi State.

Chief David Aiyedogbon made this known in a condolence message to the people of Isanlu, Ijumu and the entire people of Okun land, he described the incident which claimed lives of hardworking individuals from Isanlu and Ijumu as unfortunate and tragic.

He urges security operatives to urgently swing into action to ensure that those responsible for the wanton destruction of life are brought to book.

He prayed God to grant the departed soul eternal rest and grant the families of the deceased the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Breaking: Governor Bello finally lifts COVID-19 lockdown in Kabba/Bunu LGA

The Kogi state government has lifted the lockdown order pronounced on Kabba/Bunu LGA since the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic was discovered in the state. The Governor ordered the lockdown to combat the dreaded disease.

The reports was contained in a statement released by the CPS to the Governor, Onogwu Galacticus on Friday just few days after the total lockdown.

The LEAKAGES gathered that easing of the lockdown maybe connected to appeal from the LGA stakeholders to relax the lockdown.

Hon. Leke Abejide Condemned Isanlu Armed Robbery Attack.

Member Representing Yagba Federal Constituency has condemned in totality the armed robbery attack that took place today at the First bank Plc, Isanlu Branch.

The incident that happened today claimed many lives, and that of the policemen on duty at the divisional headquarters.

In his statement, Hon. Abejide said the incidence was so unfortunate and horrible, the perpetrators are atrocious, there can never be any valid reason or rationale behind such violence that claimed many lives, the divisional DPO, Officers and civilians.

Hon. Leke said he'd quickly reached the governor his Excellency Gov. Yahaya Bello who told him, he was already briefed about the inhumane act and actions are being taken by security agents to get the dare devils arrested.

Hon. Leke also contacted the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja and they equally assure him of swift action; they promised the perpetrators of this evil act will not escape arrest and prosecution.

"He further express his condolence to the families who lost their loved ones in the tragic and barbaric incidence; May Almighty God console their families, the entire Isanlu Community, and Yagba Federal Constituency at large.

He assures the people that he will continue to liaise with the Governor and security agents until everyone who planned and perpetrated this heinous act faces the full wrath of the law.
