Anambra APGA suspends chairman

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra has suspended its Chairman, Chief Norbert Obi, for alleged gross impeachable offences.
The State Working Committee made this known in a communiqué at the end of an emergency meeting in Awka on Friday.
The Committee also announced the Deputy Chairman of the party, in Anambra Central, MrTony Omeligwe-Elee, as its Acting Chairman in the state.
The members referred Obi to the relevant disciplinary committee set up in line with Article 22 (3) (a) of the Constitution of the party for the determination of his alleged offences and immediate action.
The communique read by its legal adviser, Mr Sylvester Ezeokenwa, on behalf of others, said Obi’s offences include failure to convene statutory meetings of the state working committee and the state Executive Committee contrary to Article 12 of the party’s constitution.
“Open denigration of members of the SWC and running the party without approved budget by the State Executive Committee (SEC) contrary to Article 12 (6) (C) of the constitOthers include, “unilaterally constituting the Disciplinary Committee and Reconciliation Committee without seeking the approval or ratification of the SEC contrary to Articles 17 (e) and 22 (3) (a) of the constitution.
“Failure to constitute other statutory standing and ad hoc committees of the party contrary to Articles 16 and 22(7)(f) of the constitution.
“Failure to render an appropriate account of the funds accruable to the party, and unilateral expenditure from the party’s account contrary to Article 28 of the constitution.”
The communique was signed by 17 of the 28 members APGA SWC in Anambra, including, Chinedu Nkwonta, Publicity Secretary, Mr Umenwa Kingsley ex-Officio 1.
Others were: Mr Issac Obadiegwu, Organising Secretary; Mr Sylvester Ezeokenwa, Legal Adviser; and Mr Chuks Igboanua, Welfare Secretary.
Mr Peter Ozumba, State Youth Leader, Tony Omeligwe Elee, Deputy Chairman; and Mr Tony Ifeanya, State Secretary.
