Thugs attack Senator Ogembe in Okene, injure many

Today, thugs invaded an empowerment programme Senator Ogembe was holding and attacked everybody in sight.

However,  Ogembe went ahead with the programme at the same venue after the thugs had left.

The senator refused to blame Governor Bello for the attack, instead he accused those trying to impress the governor of carrying out the invasion.

The Tribune reports that the thugs numbering about 20 reportedly invaded the venue of an empowerment programme that Senator Ogembe, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) federal lawmaker, held in Okene.

The thugs reportedly arrived at the venue with dangerous weapons early in the morning, destroyed the venue and injured several people who came for the programme including Ogembe’s supporters.

The senator however exonerated state governor Yahaya Bello from the attack. He blamed those trying to impress the governor for the incident and advised those behind the attack to stop it.

He urged them to find another means of assisting the governor rather than creating a problem for him.

Meanwhile, our source reported earlier that another Kogi senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi west senatorial district, on Thursday, March 1, displayed a bottle of coke, tissue paper, toothbrush and toothpaste to journalists, saying he was ready to go to prison after he was arraigned.

The Cable reports that the federal government arraigned Melaye on a two-count charge. Our source learnt that he was accused of deliberately giving false information to the police to frame Edward David, chief of staff of Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi state, for an attempted murder on his life.
